Abstract

Hypertension is a global health issue that often goes unnoticed due to its lack of symptoms and poses a risk of serious complications such as heart disease and stroke. One food frequently associated with elevated blood pressure is goat meat. This article aims to review various research findings regarding the relationship between goat meat consumption and the risk of hypertension. The method used is a literature review of 20 scientific articles published between 2001 and 2022, obtained from databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed. The findings indicate that consuming goat meat in moderation does not cause hypertension, primarily due to its lower saturated fat content compared to beef and chicken. Hypertension is more influenced by genetic factors, high-sodium diets, and unhealthy lifestyles. Excessive salt used in the preparation of goat meat dishes may trigger high blood pressure, particularly in individuals with impaired kidney function. From an Islamic perspective, moderate meat consumption was also exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions. Therefore, goat meat can serve as a nutritious food source if consumed wisely in appropriate portions and frequency.

Abstract

The dairy industry plays a strategic role in providing animal food, especially milk and its processed products. However, the sustainability of this industry is faced with the challenge of disease, one of which is mastitis inflammation of the udder which is generally caused by bacterial infections such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Escherichia coli. Mastitis is divided into clinical and subclinical forms, with significant impacts on livestock health, animal welfare, decreased milk production and quality, and economic losses for farmers. This study aims to examine the causes of mastitis, its risk factors, and prevention and control strategies at the farm level. The method used is a literature study of various scientific sources and current publications. The results of the study indicate that controlling mastitis requires a holistic approach through hygienic milking practices, good barn management, application of dry cow therapy, chronic culling of dairy cattle, vaccination, and regular monitoring of udder health. Implementation of sustainable prevention strategies, accompanied by increased farmer awareness and policy support, is key to reducing the prevalence of mastitis and strengthening the resilience of dairy farming businesses.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in implementing cattle reproductive management through extension and mentoring programs. The activity was conducted with the “Tunas Maju” farmer group in Setanggor Village, Praya Barat District. The methods included preparation, material delivery, interactive discussions, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test assessments. The extension materials covered basic reproductive concepts, estrus detection, mating management, and the application of artificial insemination. The results showed an increase in farmers’ understanding, particularly in identifying estrus signs, determining the appropriate mating time, and recognizing the importance of reproductive recording. The program also enhanced farmer participation and their ability to manage reproductive practices more effectively. With improved farmer capacity, it is expected that reproductive efficiency and cattle productivity can be sustainably increased.

Abstract

Goat farming has significant potential to support community economic development, especially through the development of Etawa Crossbreed (PE) and Saanen goats as dairy livestock. However, farmers in the Trasne Putra Lombok Farmer-Livestock Association still face limited knowledge of proper dairy goat farming, particularly in feed management, housing sanitation, animal health, and reproduction. This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ capacity through education on PE and Saanen goat farming to support livestock productivity optimization. The activity was conducted through four stages: observation and problem identification, socialization, counseling, and evaluation. Counseling was carried out using interactive lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The materials covered the characteristics of PE and Saanen goats, feed management, maintenance systems, housing sanitation, animal health, and basic reproductive management. The results showed that farmers gained better understanding of the basic principles of proper dairy goat farming. Farmers also showed interest in developing Saanen goats as dairy livestock. This activity serves as an initial step in improving farmers’ capacity and developing dairy goat farming in a more directed and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ understanding of optimizing Peranakan Etawa (PE) goats as dairy goats in Aikmual Village, Praya District, Central Lombok Regency. The activity involved 22 PE goat farmers and was carried out through socialization, participatory discussions, problem identification, and the formulation of follow-up recommendations together with the Livestock Office of Central Lombok Regency. The results showed that the farmers had experience in milking goats and basic skills in processing milk into mozzarella cheese, soap, and cosmetic products. However, business development still faces several constraints, including low selling prices for live goats, suboptimal milk production, poor recording of individual milk production, limited genetic quality, and inadequate market access. This activity encouraged farmers to maintain productive does, maximize milk production, record milk yields, diversify products, and strengthen marketing through institutional cooperation and potential market networks. Support from the local government is needed to provide superior breeds, processing equipment, technical assistance, and marketing facilitation so that PE goats can be developed as a basis for goat milk businesses and derivative products.
