Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women remains a serious public health challenge due to its impact on both maternal and fetal health, ranging from delivery complications and anemia to the risk of low birth weight (LBW) and stunting. Data from the Tolitoli District Health Office in 2023 reported 406 cases of CED among pregnant women, with the highest prevalence (19.2%) found in Baolan Subdistrict. This condition highlights the need to strengthen the role of community health cadres in early detection and nutritional support for pregnant women. This Community Service Program aimed to improve cadres’ knowledge and skills in monitoring maternal nutritional status through simple anthropometric measurements (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference, body weight, and height). The activity was conducted in Buntuna Village, within the working area of Baolan Health Center, Tolitoli District, on July 30, 2025, involving 18 health cadres. The methods included education using presentations and booklets, a question-and-answer session, and hands-on practice of anthropometric measurements. Knowledge was assessed using pre- and post-tests with questionnaires, while skills were observed using a checklist-based assessment. The post-test results indicated a significant improvement in knowledge from 40% to 86%, while skills increased from 11% to 100%. Prior to the intervention, only two cadres were skilled, but after training, all participants were able to perform measurements accurately. These findings demonstrate that practice-based training is effective in strengthening cadre capacity and has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of CED prevention programs at the community level.

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, with 17.9 million deaths in 2019, of which 85% were caused by stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD). In Indonesia, CHD accounts for 26.4% of all deaths; therefore, controlling risk factors is a priority. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between modifiable risk factors (smoking, obesity, hypertension, and lifestyle) and the incidence of CHD. Methods: This analytical study used a cross-sectional design with accidental sampling and was conducted at the Heart Polyclinic of the Undata Hospital, Central Sulawesi, in August 2025. A total of 112 respondents aged ?35 years who sought treatment were included in this study. Data were collected through direct measurements (blood pressure, height, and weight) and questionnaires assessing smoking habits, lifestyle, and medical histories. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Committee of Poltekkes Kemenkes Palu. Data analysis included univariate, chi-squared (95% CI), and logistic regression tests. Results: Among 112 respondents, 56 (50%) were diagnosed with CHD. There was a significant association between CHD and smoking (p < 0.001), obesity (p = 0.004), hypertension (p = 0.001), and lifestyle habits (p = 0.031). Logistic regression analysis identified smoking as the strongest predictor of CHD (odds ratio [OR] = 16.626; p = 0.009). Conclusion: Smoking, obesity, hypertension, and lifestyle were significant risk factors for CHD, with smoking emerging as the main determinant. Preventive strategies should prioritize smoking cessation, weight control, hypertension management, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

Tolitoli Regency is among the areas with a relatively high prevalence of stunting. According to data from the Tolitoli District Health Office in 2023, there were 136 cases of stunting (10.54%) and 8 cases of wasting (0.62%) out of 1,290 toddlers in the working area of Dungingis Health Center. This condition is exacerbated by the limited skills of posyandu cadres in conducting anthropometric measurements and assessing children’s nutritional status. The purpose of this community service program was to improve the knowledge and skills of posyandu cadres in the Dungingis Health Center working area, particularly in Galumpang Village, in performing anthropometric measurements using the Z-Score method for toddlers as an effort to prevent stunting. The method applied was health education and training provided to 20 posyandu cadres across the Dungingis Health Center area. Evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test of knowledge as well as observation of skills. The results showed that cadres’ knowledge about stunting increased from 45% to 85%. They also acquired skills in conducting anthropometric measurements and interpreting nutritional status using the Z-Score method. The program produced educational outputs in the form of a leaflet and an anthropometry banner, which were successfully used as learning media. This training was effective in enhancing the capacity of posyandu cadres in the early detection of stunting. Similar programs are recommended for sustainable implementation in regions with a high prevalence of stunting. Keywords: Posyandu Cadres, Anthropometry, Nutritional Status, Z-Score, Stunting

Abstract

As a disaster-prone province, Central Sulawesi requires preparedness in disaster management. The role of nurses in disaster preparedness cannot be separated. The purpose of this study was to examine the readiness of nurses in disaster management in Central Sulawesi. This type of survey research with a correlational approach was carried out at the Palu City Government Hospital from June to August 2022. The research sample was nurses who worked in the hospital emergency room. 85 nurses who met the selection criteria to participate in this study were obtained by simple random sampling technique. The nurse's preparedness variable in handling disaster victims was measured using the Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool (DPET) questionnaire which was distributed through the Google form. Data analysis used product-moment correlation analysis and Spearman rank. The preparedness of nurses in dealing with disaster victims is in a good category (72.6%). There is a significant relationship between age (p = 0.001), length of work (p = 0.001), and training (p = 0.001) with the readiness of nurses in disaster management, while gender (p = 0.113) and education (p = 0.927) ) did not show a significant relationship. The preparedness of nurses in managing disaster victims is in the good range, and there is a correlation between nurses' preparedness in managing disaster victims and their age, length of employment, and training. Ongoing training in disaster management and practice with disaster victims should be given to nurses.
