Abstract

Farmers generally use rice mills as a tool to separate rice husks. The main driver of the rice milling machine is a diesel engine, which makes a lot of noise. Noise intensity that exceeds the threshold value can cause health problems for workers in the form of increased blood pressure. This study aimed to analyze the effect of noise intensity in the work environment on improving blood pressure. This research is an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional approach. The total population in this study was 40 workers. Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling is the sampling technique in this research, with a sample size of 37 respondents. Data collection techniques include interviews, measuring noise intensity, and measuring blood pressure. Data analysis used wilcoxon test and Spearman correlation test, where the test criteria for H0 are accepted if p > 0.05 and H0 is rejected at p < 0.05. Based on the results of research conducted at a rice mill in Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency, it can be concluded that there is a difference between blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) before and after work. There is an influence between noise intensity, work period, age, smoking habits, and hereditary history. There was no effect between exposure time and increased blood pressure.

Abstract

Dengue fever (DHF) is a significant health problem in tropical regions, including the working area of Puskesmas Moropelang, Lamongan. Data shows that DHF cases continue to be found in the period 2020-2023. This study aims to analyse the relationship between residential environmental sanitation and the incidence of DHF in the region in 2024. This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design based on the case-control method. The study population was 148, with a total sample size of 74 cases and 74 controls. Independent variables included environmental conditions, water reservoirs, and larval density, while the dependent variable was dengue incidence. Data were analysed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant association between environmental conditions (p=0.013), water storage conditions (p=0.003), and the number of free larvae (p=0.004) with the incidence of DHF. Respondents with poor home environmental conditions had a 2.3 times higher risk of DHF, while the risk increased to 2.7 times in poor water reservoirs, and 2.6 times in environments with high larval density. This study concluded that residential environmental sanitation plays an important role in the prevention of DHF. Weekly mosquito nest eradication efforts, community education, and regular monitoring of larvae are recommended to reduce the incidence of DHF and improve environmental health.

Abstract

Currently, the percentage of the elderly population in Indonesia has increased much higher than in previous years. As people age, their immune system decreases and they are more likely to be affected by diabetes mellitus. In Indonesia, diabetes mellitus currently ranks as the third most prevalent cause of mortality following cardiovascular disease. Diabetes mellitus is closely associated with blood glucose levels. People with high blood glucose levels have a tendency to be overweight or obese. The increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the elderly, it will have an impact on hampering the development of the country. To improve the quality and life expectancy in the elderly, preventive measures are needed to increase excess glucose levels in the body. From these problems, community service activities were conducted in the form of health checks on nutritional status and blood glucose in elderly participants. The activity took place at the Abiyoso Integrated service post Polkesbaya on May 3, 2023. From the results of the examination, it was found that most of the elderly participants who participated in the activity had excess nutritional status but had normal blood glucose in the body. From this it can be concluded that high blood glucose levels in the body are not always determined by a person's nutritional status, but also lifestyle, and diet.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Title: Evaluation of Linen Management Using the POAC Approach at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital SurabayaBackground: According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2022), the prevalence of nosocomial infections in Indonesia reached 15.74%, which is higher than in developed countries ranging from 4.8% to 15.5%. The spread of nosocomial infections may be caused by linen management that does not comply with the standards set by Ministry of Health Regulation No. 7 of 2019. Preliminary observations at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya showed that staff did not use complete PPE provided by the hospital, infectious and non-infectious linen were not separated during the washing process, dirty linen transport facilities were not equipped with covers, and swab examinations of perlak linen indicated bacterial contamination. These conditions indicate a risk of infection transmission through linen, thus requiring a comprehensive evaluation of its management. This study applies the POAC management approach to provide an overall description of linen management performance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate linen management using the POAC approach at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya.Method: This research was a descriptive study with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted from January to May 2025. The variables included linen management activities and the quality of clean linen. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and laboratory tests. Data were analyzed descriptively by applying the POAC management functions.Result: The evaluation of linen management at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya using the POAC approach overall showed a poor category. The quality of clean linen was classified as "meeting the requirements." Linen management obtained a score of 190 with a percentage of 27% (poor). The planning aspect scored 110 with a percentage of 16% (poor), organizing scored 0 with a percentage of 0% (poor), actuating scored 225 with a percentage of 32% (poor), and controlling scored 275 with a percentage of 39% (fair). Conclusion: The linen management process at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya using the POAC approach is classified as poor, with a total score of 610 and a percentage of 22%.

Abstract

The 4th pillar of the Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) program emphasizes household waste management, which is crucial due to the significant contribution of household waste to environmental pollution. This study aimed to analyze the influence of knowledge, education, and triggering on the implementation of the 4th pillar of STBM in Mojosulur Village, Mojosari District, Mojokerto Regency in 2025. An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 92 housewives selected through systematic random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires to measure knowledge, education, and triggering experience, and observation sheets to evaluate household waste management practices. The results showed that the overall implementation of the 4th pillar of STBM was still low, with only 15.2% of households practicing proper waste management. The Chi-Square test indicated that knowledge had no significant association with STBM 4th pillar implementation (p = 0.109), while education (p = 0.004) and triggering (p = 0.000) were significantly associated. These findings highlight that higher education and structured triggering activities play a key role in strengthening household waste management. Local governments and environmental health officers are recommended to intensify triggering interventions and strengthen community education programs, focusing on the three main components of STBM enabling environment, increasing demand, and increasing supply to promote sustainable waste management behavior at the household level.

Abstract

Sawahan Village, Watulimo Subdistrict, Trenggalek Regency, is renowned as a durian forest tourism area. However, residents living near the river basin often complain about the odor due to the frequent presence of garbage along the river. The methods employed include introducing a chlorine diffuser device, supporting the development of the tourism village, promoting self-sufficiency, providing education on waste management through the Takakura method, and establishing a Waste Bank, healthy settlements, and a Clean and Healthy Behavior (CHB) program through Family Action Plans (FAP). The results of the community service in 2022 showed that the physical and chemical parameters of water in Sawahan Village met the required standards. However, the total coliform microbiological parameter at the source did not meet the standards as it exceeded 65 CFU/100 ml, and the Escherichia coli parameter at the source was 3 CFU/100 ml. Therefore, in the 2023 community service project, an Appropriate Technology (AT) called the chlorine diffuser. Assistance was provided for the operation and maintenance of the Clean Water Facility (CWF) by teaching the use of calcium hypochlorite through a chlorine diffuser. Through educational activities, the highest increase in knowledge among the community was related to waste sorting through the Waste Bank, with 10 individuals (20%) initially understanding waste separation, which then increased to 48 individuals (96%). The greatest improvement in community behavior regarding CHB in the FAP was observed in handwashing facilities, with 18 individuals (36%) having access to proper handwashing facilities far from pollutants, which later increased to 50 individuals (100%).
