Abstract

This research examines sustainable tourism development in Jakarta, which faces significant challenges such as environmental pollution, ecosystem damage, and non-integrated policies. The aim of the research is to understand the dynamics of tourism management and the role of society in creating desires. The methods used included in-depth interviews with 30 informants from various backgrounds, focus group discussions (FGD), and participatory observation. The research results show that although it provides economic benefits, its negative impacts on the environment and social life of society must be overcome through collaboration between government, industry and society. Community involvement in tourism planning has proven important to ensure that policies are appropriate to local needs. This research concludes that tourism policy must be more responsive and integrated, by increasing community participation and awareness of desires. Suggestions for the DKI Jakarta government are to develop educational programs that support desires and involve the community in decision making. Tourists are also expected to better appreciate local culture and the environment in their experiences. Through these steps, tourism development in Jakarta can be carried out in a more sustainable and inclusive manner. Keywords: sustainable tourism, community involvement, environmental management

Abstract

Environmental pollution caused by inadequate waste management is a pressing issue in Indonesia, particularly due to improper handling of household waste, low public awareness, and insufficient local government resources. The challenge is compounded by a significant daily waste accumulation 575 tons in Sidoarjo, of which 227 tons is unmanaged. This journal is important as it explores the role of community engagement in promoting sustainable waste management through initiatives like the Zero Waste competition, which encourages local participation, especially among youth in Sidoarjo. Employing a quantitative research methodology, the study involved 79 respondents from the Kampoeng Sinaoe learning community, using non-probability convenience sampling. Data were analyzed through validity tests, multiple regression analysis, and Likert scales. The findings revealed that tourists play a crucial role in implementing zero waste practices, with high participation rates in activities such as recycling and waste reduction. In contrast, the local government's involvement was minimal. This research underscores the significance of stakeholder participation, particularly the community and tourists, in enhancing waste management efforts. It highlights the need for greater governmental support and local engagement to foster sustainable environmental practices, suggesting that improved collaboration can lead to more effective waste management systems in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of crowd management at international concert events held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City. Using a qualitative survey approach through observation, interviews, and documentation, the research evaluates nine key indicators of crowd manage- ment: crowd behavior, security management, risk management, venue layout, venue capacity, barricade placement, emergency procedures, holding areas, and building facilities. The findings show that crowd management at ICE BSD City is generally well implemented, supported by strong coordination be- tween concert promoters and venue management. This collaboration ensures audience safety, smooth crowd flow, and overall comfort during events. However, several potential risks, such as crowd distur- bances involving popular artists, artist cancellations, demonstrations, and bomb threats, are still likely to occur and require continuous mitigation through enhanced coordination with security authorities and adherence to international standards. The study also highlights the importance of structured planning, including risk assessments, layout management, and the availability of adequate emergency facilities. Limitations of this study include the small sample size and the focus on a single venue, which limit the generalizability of the findings. Future research is recommended to broaden the respondent pool, include comparisons with other venues, and examine the role of technology-based crowd management systems to provide a more comprehensive understanding of crowd control practices in large-scale events.

Abstract

This study analyzes the May 2024 Indonesian Public Image Survey Report–LSI Denny JA in North Sinjai District, South Sulawesi, using a hermeneutic-critical approach based on Ricoeur and Habermas. The results show a complete absence of tourism (0.0%) from the narrative of community expectations, the lowest satisfaction with tourism management (63%), and the highest dissatisfaction with fishermen (44.8%). This phenomenon reflects chronic undertourism and the structural invisibility of tourism in the lifeworld of local communities. The paradox of high satisfaction (71.3%) amidst economic hardship (62.3%) provides a golden time window of 2025–2027. The study recommends a “Community First, Tourism Later” strategy with the empowerment of 1,000 fishing families, dual infrastructure, and a local-level INSTO-UNWTO pilot. North Sinjai has the potential to become a national model for transitioning from extreme undertourism to sustainable, inclusive and equitable micro-tourism.

Glamping De Loano is a new and fresh tourism sensation in Purworejo that can bring millennial tourists and new unique tourism experiences to the area.
