Abstract

A Nature Tourism Park (TWA) is a type of conservation area. In addition to functioning as a conservation area, TWA also functions as a tourist attraction. Harau Valley is one of the favorite tourist attractions in West Sumatra Province. The Sarasah Bunta area has three waterfalls in the same landscape, namely Sarasah Aie Luluih, Sarasah Bunta, and Sarasah Murai. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the Willingness to Pay (WTP) of visitors to the Harau Valley Waterfall, determine the amount of Willingness to Pay (WTP) of visitors to enjoy the Harau Valley Waterfall tour, and compare the Willingness to Pay (WTP) values of tourists at the three Harau Valley Waterfalls. The data used in this study include primary data and secondary data. This study used a multiple linear regression analysis approach, the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM), and descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that the WTP values that have a significant influence are income level at Sarasah Aie Luluih, education level at Sarasah Bunta, and gender at Sarasah Murai. The average WTP value of willingness to pay at each waterfall is IDR 6,625.00 per entry at Sarasah Aie Luluih, IDR 7,906.25 per entry at Sarasah Bunta, and IDR 7,233.33 per entry at Sarasah Murai. The Total WTP value (TWTP) is IDR 6,123,812,816.28 with an estimated visitor count of 281,366 people in the Harau Valley. Overall, differences in location, facilities, and atmosphere of each waterfall create different visitor segmentations, so that tourism management and development at the three locations are adjusted to the characteristics of visitors to each waterfall.

Abstract

Lowland rice fields are suboptimal land with high acidity constraints and limited nutrient availability, thus requiring an appropriate and sustainable fertilization approach. These conditions make rice a commodity that requires special attention in nutrient management, considering that rice is the main food crop cultivated in lowland swamps but is sensitive to Fe and Al toxicity and nutrient deficiencies in acidic soil conditions. This study aims to examine the growth and productivity response of rice (Oryza sativa L.) to a combination of cow dung manure and biofertilizer in lowland rice fields. The study was conducted in Petar Village, Sungai Rotan District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province, using a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments and five replications, namely: no treatment, 100% recommended fertilizer dose, cow dung manure, cow dung manure + ½ recommended fertilizer dose, and biofertilizer + ½ recommended fertilizer dose. The parameters observed included plant height, total number of tillers, productive tillers, panicle length, number of full grains, full grain weight, root length, and productivity (tons/ha). Data were analyzed using ANOVA at the 5% level and continued with Tukey's test. The results showed that the treatment of cow dung manure + ½ dose of recommended fertilizer consistently produced the best values in all growth and productivity parameters, with the highest grain yield of 5.34 tons/ha, significantly different from all other treatments. The treatment of biofertilizer + ½ dose of recommended fertilizer produced a productivity of 4.88 tons/ha and ranked second best. The integration of organic materials and biofertilizers with reduced doses of inorganic fertilizers proved to be more efficient than the use of full doses of inorganic fertilizers alone in increasing rice growth and productivity in lowland rice fields.

Abstract

The problem of kitchen waste, such as vegetable and fruit scraps, in urban areas is increasing with population growth and urbanization in various cities in Malaysia. Furthermore, organic waste such as rice washing water (leri water) is generally discarded, despite its great potential as a raw material for Local Microorganisms (LMICs) in the production of liquid organic fertilizer from kitchen waste. This community service article aims to describe the innovation of processing leri water into environmentally friendly liquid organic fertilizer from kitchen waste through training. This program was implemented at the Muhammadiyah Kepong Guidance Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in January 2026. The methods used were outreach and the production of Leri water MOL. The results of the activity showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of children at the Muhammadiyah Kepong Guidance Center in processing kitchen waste into useful organic fertilizer, supporting household food security, and reducing urban organic waste.

Abstract

Black rice (Oryza sativa L. indica) is a functional food rich in anthocyanins with health benefits, although its cultivation among farmers remains limited. This study aimed to determine the growth and yield response of various black rice genotypes grown on irrigated paddy fields. The study was conducted in Rantau Durian Village, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, using a Randomized Block Design with three genotypes, namely Intan Semar, Jeliteng, and Cempo Ireng, each replicated nine times. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by the Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% and 1% levels. The results showed that genotype had a highly significant effect on all observed variables. The Cempo Ireng genotype showed the best growth and yield response compared to Intan Semar and Jeliteng, with a plant height of 143.40 cm, total tiller number of 21.40 hills, filled grain weight per plot of 1.90 kg, 1000-grain weight of 24.33 g, and grain yield of 9.90 ton ha⁻¹, followed by Intan Semar with relatively similar performance, while Jeliteng consistently showed the lowest values for all observed variables. Cempo Ireng and Intan Semar are recommended as more adaptive black rice genotypes for cultivation in irrigated paddy field agroecosystems.
