Abstract

Mangroves are very productive wetlands and can live in areas still influenced by tides. This research was conducted in November - December 2023 in the mangrove ecosystem of Sapat Village, Kuala Indragiri District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. This study aimed to determine the structure of mangrove vegetation communities in Sapat Village. This study used the survey method, and three stations were used. Mangrove species found include Avicennia alba, Sonneratia alba, S.caseolaris, S.ovata, Nypa fruticans, Rhizophora apiculata, Bruguiera parviflora, B.gymnorhiza, B.sexangula, and Achantus ebracteatus. Mangrove vegetation density at station I has very dense criteria, station II medium criteria, and III has sparse criteria. From the index aspect, the mangrove vegetation community has a diversity value (H'), which is classified as moderate, with sufficient productivity, which has a value ranging from 1.33-1.68. The uniformity value (E) of stations I and II is in the moderate category, which ranges from 0.57-0.58, and station III is classified as a high category with a value of 0.73. Moreover, the value of the dominance index (C) is classified as low, ranging from 0.21-0.3 based on the significant value. The type of N.fruticans dominates because they have a more excellent value than other species seen at each station in both categories of trees, saplings, and trees.

Abstract

This research was conducted in April 2022 on the North Coast of Bengkalis Island, Riau Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the structure of the mangrove community on the North Coast of Bengkalis Island, Riau Province. The method used in this study is a survey method, through direct observation in the field (in situ). Determination of research stations was carried out by purposive sampling method, the research location was divided into 3 stations then the stations were divided into 3 transects and 3 plots were placed on each transect. The results showed that the mangrove species found consisted of 8 species. The highest density of mangroves in the tree category was at station I, namely 1,767 ind/ha, the highest density of mangroves in the sapling category was at station I, namely 3,645 ind/ha. The species with the highest density, both from the category of trees and saplings, is R. apiculata. The diversity index belongs to the medium category (H' = 1.49 - 1.69) which means that the mangrove community is experiencing significant pressure (disorder). The uniformity index value obtained is in the high category (E = 0.89 - 0.90) where the distribution of species in these waters is in a balanced state. The dominance index value (C = 0.18 - 0.26) indicates that there are no species that dominate in these waters

Abstract

Amed Waters, Bali, is one area that utilizes coral reefs in economic development. However, climate change, human activities and other factors have threatened the condition of coral reefs in Amed Waters. This study aims to determine the condition and social and economic potential of coral reefs and examine the appropriate blue economy strategy in maintaining the balance of coral reefs in Amed Waters, Bali. This research was conducted in September-November 2024. This research used direct field data collection methods such as Underwater Photo Transect (UPT), interviews and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Based on the percentage of coral cover and the interviews' results, the results showed that coral reefs in Amed Waters can be classified as poorly damaged, so conservation efforts and sustainable management are needed to maintain the balance of coral reefs. Coral reefs have social and economic potential in the fisheries sector, with a fishing group of 19 people and marine tourism in the form of diving and snorkelling. The main focus of community economic development is the tourism sector. The blue economy strategy that can be applied in the conservation of coral reefs in Amed Waters, Bali, focuses on environmental aspects of coral reef health, economic aspects of increasing community income, and social aspects of community participation

Abstract

This study was conducted in June 2022 to know the diversity and abundance of bivalve species as well as know the relationship between the total organic matter content of sediments and the abundance of bivalves found in the intertidal zone of coastal waters of Bandar Laksamana District. This research was conducted using the survey method, where each station consisted of 3 plots perpendicular to the coastline. Station 1 is in Tenggayun Village, Station 2 is in Api-Api Village, and Station 3 is in Parit Satu Api-Api Village. Observations and sampling were conducted directly in the field and then analyzed at the Marine Biology Laboratory, Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Riau. Based on the research results, it is known that the highest abundance of bivalves is found at Station 2, which is 2.07 ind/m2 with an organic content of 2.44%. At the same time, the lowest abundance of bivalves is found at station 1, which is 0.44 ind/m2 with an organic content of 0.91%. The bivalves found include Corbicula javanica, Anadara granosa, Solen sp, Pharella acutidens, and Anadara antiquata.

Abstract

Community structure is a concept that studies the composition of species and abundance in a community. This research was conducted in April 2022 in the waters of Tidung Island, Seribu Islands Regency. The purpose by conducting this study was to determine the structure of the bivalve community which includes species, density, relative density, diversity, uniformity, dominance, distribution pattern and index of similarity. The research method used in this study is survey method, were carried out at 3 stations, station determination using purposive sampling method taking into account the anthropogenic conditions in the study area. Based on results, types of bivalves found consisted of 6 species of bivalve. The species most commonly found is Atrina pectinata. The abundance of bivalve obtained ranged from 2.67 – 5.47 ind/m2. The results of the ANOVA test between observation stations obtained the value of sig. <0.05, so it can be concluded that the density of Bivalvia between stations was significantly different, except for stations I and III. The distribution pattern of bivalves in the waters of Tidung Island is in groups. The value of the Diversity Index in the study area is classified as moderate (2.06 – 2.12). The uniformity index value during ranged from 0.80 – 0.82 wich is included in the balanced category. The dominance index between stations is different with a value range of 0.25 – 0.28 which means that no species dominates at each station.

Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove mempunyai banyak fungsi dan peranan, namun ekosistem ini banyak mengalami kerusakan baik oleh faktor alam maupun faktor manusia. Perbaikan kondisi ekosistem mangrove telah dilakukan oleh beberapa kalangan melalui penanaman bibit mangrove kembali. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk mensosialisasikan peranan mangrove kepada masyarakat dan melakukan aksi penanaman mangrove, khususnya anggota Kelompok Masyarakat Konservasi Lingkungan Pesisir Desa Teluk Papal. Pada kegiatan pengabdian ini, metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, dan praktek penanaman bibit mangrove dengan melibatkan secara langsung mansyarakat, mahasiswa Angkatan 2023 dan alumni serta dosen S3 Ilmu Lingkungan Universitas Riau. Peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terkait peranan dan fungsi hutan mangrove dilakukan evaluasi dengan meminta peserta mengisi kuisioner sebelum dan setelah kegiatan dilakukan. Selanjutnya data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini menunjukkan hasil bahwa seluruh peserta mengikuti kegiatan dengan serius dengan mendengarkan materi yang disampaikan oleh tim penyuluh dari awal sampai akhir. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar peserta (90%) sebelum adanya kegiatan pengabdian telah mengetahui peranan fisik hutan mangrove dalam melindungi pantai dari abrasi dan meningkat menjadi 100 % setelah kegiatan. Selanjutnya sebelum penyuluhan masih ada sekitar 10% peserta yang belum mengetahui mangrove dapat ditanam melalui buah dan bibit, menjadi 100 % mengetahuinya setelah penyuluhan. Sebagian besar peserta ini merupakan petani yang lahannya terabrasi maka ada sekitar 60% peserta belum mengetahui fungsi biologi hutan mangrove sebagai tempat hidup berbagai biota perairan, namun setelah dijelaskan menjadi semuanya (100%) dapat mengetahuinya. Pada akhir kegiatan semua peserta (100%) menyatakan kegiatan pengabdian bermanfaat untuk menambah pemahamannya tentang peranan mangrove, sehingga keberadaan mangrove sangat penting untuk melindungi pantai dari abrasi.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2023, located in Koneng Beach, Dumai City. The purpose of this study was to determine the organic matter content and abundance of epipelic diatoms vertically and to analyze the relationship between the organic matter content in sediments and the abundance of epipelic diatoms vertically in the intertidal area of Dumai City Waters. The method used is the survey method. The sampling point is determined using a purposive sampling method. Sampling of epipelic diatoms was carried out using a modified corer, which was then brought to the laboratory to identify and calculate the abundance of diatoms and the sediment samples to calculate the content of organic matter and sediment fractions. Water quality measurements accompanied sampling with a brightness value of 0.57 m, temperature of 33 °C, current speed of 0.33 m/s, salinity of 28 ppt, and pH of 8.13. The results of the analysis of organic matter are 2.55 – 13.38%. The results of the sediment fraction analysis show that the research location is dominated by sandy silt. Nineteen genera of epipelic diatoms were found in the waters of Koneng Beach, Dumai City, with abundance values between 5,291–39,983 ind/cm2. The one-way ANOVA test results obtained an average value of 0.000, meaning there is a significant difference in the abundance of epipelic diatoms between the sediment layers. The results of the linear regression test showed that the effect of sediment organic matter on the abundance of epipelic diatoms was 50.85%.

Abstract

Mangrove is a type of vegetation that grows on muddy soil in tidal areas, around the river estuary, and in tropical coastal areas. To support the success of mangrove forest management, it is important to pay attention to the factors that affect the growth of mangroves. This research was conducted in October – December 2021. The purpose of the study was to determine the type, density value, frequency, and cover of mangrove vegetation and its importance value index in Pongkar Village, Karimun Regency, Kepulauan Riau Province, using survey methods and sampling and measuring environmental quality parameters waters in the field. Based on the result of the research, the types of mangrove vegetation found consisted of 6 species, namely Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia alba, and Lumnitzera littorea. The highest density of mangrove vegetation in the Pongkar Village area is near the Military District Command (Station II) housing with a total density of 1822.22 ind/ha. The highest relative frequency value of mangroves is found in the Pelambung area of ​​A.alba species with a value of 40%. The highest relative dominance value of mangroves was found at station II of S.alba species with a value of 63.12%. Meanwhile, the highest important value index was found at station II for S.alba species with a value of 152.01% and the lowest important value index was L.littorea which was found at station I with a value of 12.69%.

Abstract

Echinoderms are thorn-skinned invertebrates such as sea stars, snake stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and sea lilies. Echinoderms are marine animals that act as cleaners for the marine environment, especially the coastal environment. This research was conducted in September 2021 in the coastal waters of Sungai Nipah, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the structure of the echinoderm community which includes species, abundance, relative abundance, diversity, uniformity, dominance, and distribution patterns. The method used in this research was a survey method, to determine the observation station using a purposive sampling technique. Based on the research results, the species of echinoderms found in the coastal waters of Sungai Nipah Village are Holothuria scabra, H.atra, and Ophiocoma scolopendrina. The abundance of echinoderms obtained ranged from 7,407–11,481 ind/ha. Echinodemata diversity has an average of 1.13 which belongs to the medium category. The uniformity of echinoderms has an average of 0.13 which is included in the category of very low species uniformity. The average value of dominance is 0.51 which means that there are species that dominate in these waters. The distribution pattern of echinoderms in the coastal waters of Sungai Nipah is uniform.

Abstract

This research was conducted in January 2020 in the waters of the Sembilan Dumai River which aims to determine the concentration of nitrate and phosphate on the primary productivity of phytoplankton. The research method used in this research is the survey method while the determination of the research station was done by technic purposive sampling. The results showed that the average nitrate concentration ranged from 0.0194 - 0.0749 mg/l and the average phosphate concentration ranged from 0.1452 - 0.8502 mg/l. There are 6 classes of phytoplankton found in the waters of the Sembilan Dumai River, namely Bacillariophyceae, Cocinodiscophyceae, Chroococcophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Cyanobacteria and Xanthophyceae. The results of phytoplankton abundance calculations ranged from 74.07 - 280.09 Ind/L. The primary productivity value of phytoplankton for gross primary productivity ranged from 62.5 - 104.16 mgC/m2/jam, respiration values ​​ranged from 20.83 - 41.66 mgC/m2/jam and the net primary productivity value ranged from 41.67 - 72.91 mgC/m2/jam. The results of the multiple linear regression test for the relationship between nitrate and phosphate on the primary productivity of phytoplankton at each station are shown by the mathematical equation Y = 60.18 + (-233,19,35) x and Y = 60.18 + 30.44x with the coefficient of determination ( R2) = 0.140 and (R2) = 0.226 and the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.631, the mathematical equation states that the relationship between nitrate and phosphate on the primary productivity of phytoplankton is strong.
