Abstract

The main function of language is to communicate and interact with others. The process of language acquisition begins in childhood to adulthood. Dyslexia is one type of language disorder that can be an obstacle to children's language development. Dyslexia affects the neurological function of the brain that functions to process language. Dyslexia also affects children's writing ability. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain what dyslexia is, what are the symptoms, causes, and dyslexia treatment efforts. This study uses a literature review research type. The results of the study showed that children with dyslexia often face difficulties in recognizing letters, spelling words, and understanding texts. Environmental factors, such as family support and learning methods, also affect children's language development. This study is expected to provide insight to teachers and parents about the importance of the right approach in helping children with dyslexia learn language better.

Abstract

This research explores the process of rapid language acquisition in children aged 0–6 years, focusing on the psycholinguistic perspective. The study aims to uncover the primary factors influencing language learning and the mechanisms that facilitate it. Using a literature review approach, data were gathered and analyzed from academic journals, books, and case studies. The results indicate that language development is driven by biological factors, such as neuroplasticity, and environmental influences, including parental communication patterns like motherese. Furthermore, declarative and procedural memory systems play a crucial role in building vocabulary and mastering grammar. Unlike adults, children learn language more effectively through natural interactions in daily life. This research contributes to the creation of appropriate strategies for early language education. Future studies could investigate multilingual language development and the effects of digital technology on children’s language acquisition.

Abstract

This study aims to compare and contrast human language with animal communication, focusing on their construction, integration, and design features based on language theories. While human language is complex, flexible, and capable of abstract thought, animal communication systems are often considered more limited, relying on instinctual signals. By examining key theoretical frameworks, including Charles Hockett's "Design Features of Language." this research analyzes both human and animal communication systems to explore their similarities and differences. A qualitative research method was used, involving a comprehensive literature review and comparative analysis of human language and animal communication examples. The findings reveal that human language has distinct features such as productivity, displacement, and recursion, which are absent in most animal communication systems. However, some animal species demonstrate rudimentary forms of syntax and symbolism. The study concludes by emphasizing the unique qualities of human language and suggesting areas for further research on the cognitive abilities of animals.

Abstract

This study investigates the psycholinguistic impact of age on language acquisition in children aged 6-12, focusing on both first (L1) and second language (L2) learners Middle childhood is a critical phase in cognitive and linguistic development, marked by significant brain maturation and increasing cognitive abilities. For L1 learners, this period involves mastering complex syntactic structures, expanding vocabulary, and refining communicative competence. L2 learners benefit from greater cognitive flexibility than older learners, although they may require more explicit instruction. We explore how cognitive development, social environment, and neurological factors influence the ability to acquire languages at this stage. The study compares L1 and L2 acquisition processes and assesses whether the age range offers a critical or sensitive period for language learning. Data was collected through observation and testing of linguistic competencies in children learning under different conditions. Our findings suggest that children within this age range demonstrate high neuroplasticity, enabling relatively smooth L2 acquisition alongside L1 development, but with notable differences in grammar mastery and accent retention.

Abstract

This research investigates the link between emotional states and language comprehension. It looks at how emotions can affect the cognitive processes involved in interpreting both spoken and written language, emphasizing how emotional experiences might either facilitate or obstruct understanding. Both positive and negative emotions are found to interact with key cognitive functions such as attention, memory, and reasoning, all of which play a crucial role in processing language. The findings suggest that the emotional context in which language is encountered can influence how individuals perceive and interpret information, thereby affecting both the ease and precision of language comprehension. Ultimately, the study aims to offer valuable insights into how emotions shape communication, learning, and cognitive functions in everyday language use.

Abstract

The environment plays a crucial role as a platform in the development of children's language and speech skills, as it is part of their interactions during the developmental process. This research aims to describe the role of the environment in children's language development. The method used in this research is qualitative, employing a literature review approach. Sources are taken from various kinds of literature, including journals, articles, previous research, and other internet sources. The results of this study show that the role of the environment is very important in language development because early childhood language skills can develop depending on the stimuli provided by the environment. The environment helps train children in communication by introducing proper greetings, familiarizing them with surrounding objects, implementing democratic parenting, and integrating language skills into daily life, thereby supporting children's ability to express themselves.

Abstract

This review explores the pivotal role of family communication in the language development of children, framed within a psycholinguistic context. Language acquisition is a complex process influenced by various factors, including the linguistic environment provided by family interactions. The study highlights how verbal exchanges, non-verbal cues, and the emotional tone of family communication contribute to children's vocabulary expansion, grammatical understanding, and overall communicative competence Key findings indicate that frequent, meaningful conversations between parents and children foster a richer language environment, promoting not only vocabulary growth but also cognitive skills and social-emotional development. The use of diverse linguistic inputs, such as storytelling and interactive play, is shown to enhance children's language skills significantly. Moreover, the role of parental responsiveness and encouragement in facilitating effective communication is emphasized This review underscores the importance of fostering healthy communication patterns within the family unit as a foundation for successful language development in children, suggesting implications for educational practices and interventions aimed at supporting language acquisition in early childhood.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital platforms has transformed the way children access information and engage with media, with TikTok emerging as a significant influence, even among children aged 5–10 years. This study investigates the impact of TikTok on language development in this age group, focusing on vocabulary acquisition, communication skills, and social interaction. Using a qualitative research design, including observations and interviews with parents and educators, the study examines the dual outcomes of TikTok usage. Findings reveal that TikTok contributes positively by expanding vocabulary and encouraging creative expression. However, challenges include a dominance of informal language forms, reduced opportunities for meaningful verbal interactions, and potential dependency on visual and auditory stimuli. The study underscores the importance of balancing TikTok use with structured language learning methods to optimize its educational potential while mitigating its drawbacks. Insights from this research aim to guide parents, educators, and policymakers in fostering constructive digital media use among young children.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomena of code switching and code mixing among bilingual children, focusing on a 9-year-old Indonesian child, Gracia. Using a qualitative approach, the research identifies patterns and functions of these linguistic practices in daily communication. The findings reveal that code switching and code mixing facilitate expression, social adaptation, and emotional communication, influenced by bilingual exposure, pop culture, and situational contexts. While these phenomena enhance cognitive abilities and cultural adaptability, they may challenge linguistic mastery if overused. The study contributes to understanding bilingual language development, with implications for multilingual education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study compares language acquisition in early childhood between urban and rural environments, focusing on the influence of environmental factors on language development. The study identifies that children in urban settings tend to have richer vocabulary, more complex sentence structures, and more frequent verbal social interactions compared to children in rural settings. Through data analysis from 100 children aged 3 to 6 years, it was found that access to media, diverse social interactions, and better educational resources in urban areas contribute to faster and more complex language development. These findings provide important insights to support educational practices and policies in children's language development.
