Abstract

In the areas of education, linguistics, and cognitive science, the process of learning a second language (L2) throughout childhood has been widely studied and debated. Because of the brain's increased flexibility, which enables more flexibility in taking in and remembering language information, childhood is frequently regarded as an essential age for language learning. Speaking more than one language has become essential in many academic, professional, and cultural situations as civilizations become more interconnected through globalization. With a focus on cognitive, social, and cultural aspects, this paper aims to explore all of the benefits of early exposure to a second language while also addressing the main challenges that students may face. Learning a second language has several cognitive benefits, including improved memory storage, improved mental flexibility, and improved problem-solving abilities. Socially, bilingualism helps kids navigate multicultural settings more easily by fostering better communication skills, empathy, and a greater understanding of cultural diversity. Early exposure to a second language helps broaden a child's perspective and foster tolerance and inclusivity by assisting them in comprehending and appreciating the customs, beliefs, and viewpoints of many societies.

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a type of developmental disorder that is influenced by biological factors and affects children's social interactions and communication skills. For children with ASD, communication challenges are often one of the main aspects faced. Therefore, communication skills are considered an important indicator in assessing their developmental progress. The purpose of this study was to understand how children with autism spectrum disorder communicate in their daily lives and to find out how treatment media can be used to help them. The method used is a literature review that analyzes various journals, articles, and books from Google Scholar, Academia.edu, and ResearchGet. Research has found that the impact of autism on communication skills is often significant, making it difficult for individuals to form meaningful interactions and relationships with others. Treatment media can be done by using speech therapy, occupational therapy, and using visual media to help children with autism communicate well in their daily lives.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of cartoon viewing on vocabulary development in early childhood. Previous research has suggested that exposure to language-rich environments, including television programs, can contribute to vocabulary growth. However, the specific influence of cartoons, with their unique visual and auditory elements, remains a subject of exploration. To address this gap, this study examined the relationship between cartoon viewing frequency and vocabulary size in a group of young children. Using a combination of observational methods and vocabulary assessments, the findings suggest that regular cartoon consumption is positively correlated with vocabulary development, particularly when the cartoons are age-appropriate and feature diverse vocabulary. Children exposed to well-structured educational cartoons demonstrated a greater increase in vocabulary size compared to those with limited exposure. The implications of these results for parents, educators, and media producers are discussed, emphasizing the importance of selecting high-quality cartoon content to maximize language learning opportunities. This research highlights the potential of cartoons as valuable tools in early childhood education and advocates for a balanced approach to media consumption that promotes language development.

Abstract

This study investigates the complex interrelationship between language and emotion, looking at how vocabulary and linguistic patterns influence how people express and comprehend their emotions. Based on multidisciplinary research from the fields of psychology, linguistics, and neuroscience, the study emphasises how language functions as a medium for emotional communication, impacting interpersonal relationships and personal identity. The concept of emotional intelligence and its relationship to language skills are discussed in the study, along with cultural differences in emotional lexicons. The results of qualitative and quantitative assessments show that language is essential for controlling and interpreting emotions in addition to reflecting emotional states. This piece adds to the larger conversation of how cognitive functions and emotional experiences interact, arguing that language is an essential for emotions and the formation of social bonds.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between word choice and question-answering ability in children aged 2-3 years. The research involved five participants: two aged 2 years and three aged 3 years. Data were collected through observation and structured tasks, where children were asked five types of questions ("what," "who," "where," "why," and "how"). The results showed that 2-year-old children predominantly used basic nouns and verbs, while 3-year-olds demonstrated a more varied vocabulary, including adjectives and short phrases. In the question-answering task, 2-year-olds successfully answered 40% of "what" and "who" questions but struggled with "why" and "how" questions, achieving only 10% accuracy. In contrast, 3-year-olds answered 80% of "what," "who," and "where" questions accurately and performed moderately well with "why" (60%) and "how" (50%) questions. The findings indicate a positive correlation between vocabulary richness and the ability to answer questions. Children with broader vocabularies provided more accurate and contextually appropriate responses. This research highlights the importance of fostering language development during early childhood through interactive communication and exposure to diverse linguistic inputs.

Abstract

The relationship between language and cognition continues to be a prominent and complex issue in cognitive science and neuroscience. While there has been substantial progress in understanding the neural networks responsible for language and cognitive processes, many questions remain unresolved. This article explores the neural mechanisms behind language acquisition, its interaction with cognition, and how emotional prosody—elements like pitch, rhythm, and tone—affects language development. The study also investigates the interaction between language and thought, emphasizing the hemispheric specializations for language and cognition. Using advanced brain imaging technologies such as fMRI, this work analyzes the functional connectivity between various language-related and cognitive brain regions, underscoring their recursive interactions. The article concludes by examining how our understanding of language informs cognitive theories, contributing to a greater comprehension of the human mind.

Abstract

The family environment plays a crucial role in shaping children's language development during their early years. This study explores the multifaceted impact of familial factors such as parental acquisition of language skills. Parental engagement in conversations, storytelling, and reading activities fosters vocabulary growth, grammatical understanding, and communication abilities. Socioeconomic disparities influence access to resources like books and educational opportunities, which directly affect language exposure and development. Additionally, a supportive and emotionally nurturing family environment enhances language acquisition by creating a positive context for learning. This research underscores the importance of fostering a language-rich and emotionally supportive home environment to promote optimal linguistic and cognitive development in children. Future interventions and policies aimed at addressing language delays must prioritize empowering families with resources and strategies for active engagement in their child's language learning journey.

Abstract

This research aims to explore and assess the impact of smartphone usage in English language learning. The study focuses on aspects such as making students more motivated, helping them work together, and the ease of carrying smartphones anywhere. The researchers looked at how smartphones help students learn English bettter by using interviews and questionnaires. The study focused on English language education students from SMP CR 2, with twenty students who owned smartphones participating as research subjects. Researchers used interviews and questionnaries as their methods of data collection. The students’ perceptions revealed that using smartphones influenced their motivation, mobility and ability to collaborate while learning English. Moreover, smartphones were seen as tools that could enhance their effectiveness in learning English. There findings align with Barker’s theory about the positive effects of smartphones use in language learning. However, there were also some negative aspects, such as the potential for students to use smartphones to cheat due to their easy of carring smartphones anywheere, their tendency to seek quick solution, and the risk of developing an addiction to their devices.
