Abstract

This study examines the phenomena of code switching and code mixing among bilingual children, focusing on a 9-year-old Indonesian child, Gracia. Using a qualitative approach, the research identifies patterns and functions of these linguistic practices in daily communication. The findings reveal that code switching and code mixing facilitate expression, social adaptation, and emotional communication, influenced by bilingual exposure, pop culture, and situational contexts. While these phenomena enhance cognitive abilities and cultural adaptability, they may challenge linguistic mastery if overused. The study contributes to understanding bilingual language development, with implications for multilingual education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study compares language acquisition in early childhood between urban and rural environments, focusing on the influence of environmental factors on language development. The study identifies that children in urban settings tend to have richer vocabulary, more complex sentence structures, and more frequent verbal social interactions compared to children in rural settings. Through data analysis from 100 children aged 3 to 6 years, it was found that access to media, diverse social interactions, and better educational resources in urban areas contribute to faster and more complex language development. These findings provide important insights to support educational practices and policies in children's language development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the speech difficulties experienced by five-year-old children in pronouncing difficult words in English. Focusing on a child named M.B. from Pematangsiantar, this study explores various factors that influence his English pronunciation ability. Qualitative research methods were used to explore data from observations and interviews, which showed that environmental factors, phonological ability, and self-confidence play an important role in the language acquisition process. The results showed that M.B. had difficulty in pronouncing English sounds that did not exist in his mother tongue, as well as a lack of exposure to English in everyday life. This study provides insight into the challenges faced by children in learning a second language and the importance of environmental support in the language acquisition process.

Abstract

The extensive incorporation of digital media in children's lives has greatly affected their reading patterns and literacy growth. This research examines how digital media impacts the evolution of reading abilities in early childhood. It looks into the benefits and obstacles that digital tools present in promoting literacy. Using a mixed-methods strategy, information was collected via surveys, interviews, and observations involving children aged 6-12, along with their parents and educators. Results indicate that although digital media provides engaging and interactive literacy experiences, too much dependence may weaken conventional reading habits. The study highlights the importance of a balanced method for incorporating digital media and nurturing a robust reading environment.

Abstract

The significance of comprehending language development from a young age is covered in this article, along with how a psycholinguistic approach can offer a solid basis for creating English language instruction that works for kids at this critical juncture in life. This article uses a psycholinguistic method to analyze the literature and trace empirical investigations of language development in early life. The purpose of this method to English language learning at this crucial developmental stage was investigated through data analysis. This means that incorporating psycholinguistic methods into early English instruction for kids has a lot of promise to help them develop their language skills. Teachers can foster a relevant and encouraging learning environment for kids by comprehending and putting psycholinguistic ideas into practice. Language development in early childhood is a critical aspect of human growth, particularly between the ages of 1-6, when children undergo rapid linguistic advancements. Psycholinguistics provides valuable insights into how children acquire, understand, and use language, combining cognitive psychology and linguistics to explore the brain mechanisms underlying language processing. This paper examines the major theories of language acquisition, cognitive and social influences on development, and the role of environmental factors. By integrating psycholinguistic principles with research findings, this article highlights how early childhood educators and caregivers can enhance language development. The article concludes with recommendations for future research directions to further explore bilingualism, technology's impact on language acquisition, and interventions for language disorders.

Abstract

The phenomenon of bilingualism, which refers to the capacity to fluently use two languages, plays a significant role in shaping cognitive and social abilities, especially during early childhood—a period marked by rapid neurological and cognitive growth. This study explores how bilingualism influences critical cognitive domains such as executive functioning, problem-solving abilities, and social cognition in children aged 3–6 years. By comparing the performance of bilingual and monolingual children through structured cognitive and social tasks, the study reveals that bilingual children demonstrate superior abilities in cognitive flexibility, attentional regulation, and empathy. The findings emphasize the importance of fostering bilingual environments to support cognitive and social development during the formative years.

Abstract

This study investigates how psycholinguistic processes contribute to language development, with a particular focus on cognitive aspects such as memory, perception, and attention. The research explores the complex interactions between these cognitive processes and how children and adults alike learn and understand language. Additionally, it examines how external factors, such as social environments and interactions, impact these psycholinguistic processes, ultimately shaping language skills and comprehension. Using a combination of experiments and longitudinal observations, this study identifies key stages in the development of language and underscores the importance of neurocognitive development in achieving linguistic proficiency. The findings offer detailed insights into how psycholinguistic processes are vital to learning both a first and a second language.

Abstract

Language is the most effective and important communication tool in social life. Language has a high value in human life in everyday communication. However, as living creatures, humans and animals have a communication system between humans and animals. This language ability is what distinguishes humans from animals. Humans organize their lives with language. While animals also have their own way of organizing their lives, especially in communicating. This study aims to analyze the differences between how humans and animals communicate. By using the literature review method as the basis for collecting information, this study seeks to understand the main differences in communication systems and language abilities between the two. The results of the analysis show that the fundamental differences between human and animal communication lie in the structure of the communication system and the language abilities they possess.

Abstract

This comprehensive study looks at the effects of interactive media on language learning in children aged 1-3 years from a psycholinguistic standpoint. As interactive media becomes more integrated into early childhood education, it is vital to assess how technology affects language development, particularly vocabulary. The study uses a longitudinal mixed-methods approach to evaluate different types of interactive media, including educational apps, e-books, and interactive films. The findings show that children who used interactive media experienced considerable vocabulary gains, implying that well-designed media might be an effective aid for language development. However, the study emphasizes the risk of cognitive overload and distraction if media is not well regulated. The conversation provides valuable insights for educators, legislators, and instructional media designers, emphasizing the significance of balance and human interaction in early language development.

Abstract

Psycholinguistics explores the complex relationship between language and cognition. The study of how language is acquired, processed, and produced involves various cognitive mechanisms and neural processes. This paper examines these mechanisms, focusing on the intersection of cognitive science, linguistics, and psychology, and the ways culture and technology shape linguistic behaviors. It also discusses the application of psycholinguistics in education, clinical therapy, and artificial intelligence (AI). Findings underscore the importance of psycholinguistics in addressing challenges posed by multilingualism, globalization, and digital communication tools. Highlight the importance of integrating AI-based technology to support psycholinguistic studies, such as using machine learning for language analysis. Emphasize the relevance of psycholinguistics in supporting language learning in the globalization era, particularly in multilingual education contexts
