Abstract

Background: Adolescents are a group vulnerable to nutritional problems. The main factor behind this is that adolescence is a period of accelerated growth and development, often accompanied by changes in eating habits and lifestyle. Although each adolescent has different demands, activity levels begin to increase significantly as they approach junior high school. Adolescents' nutritional status is influenced by various factors, including eating habits, economic conditions, cultural background, and physical activity levels. Physical activity is defined as any form of bodily movement that increases energy expenditure, thus playing a role in maintaining energy balance and preventing the risk of excess weight. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between physical activity and nutritional status of students in junior high school. Method: This quantitative research with an analytical observational design employed a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted from March to July 2025 at Pineleng 2 Public Junior High School, involving 77 respondents in grades VII and VIII. The research instruments included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the SECA height and weight measurement tool. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, with Fisher's exact test for correlation between variables. Results: some respondents had active physical activity totaling 69 respondents and for good nutritional status totaling 58 respondents. Conclusion: There is a relationship between physical activity and nutritional status with a p value = 0.019 (p<0.05).   Keywords: Adolescents; Nutritional Status; Physical Activity.   Pendahuluan: Remaja termasuk dalam kelompok yang rentan terhadap masalah gizi. Faktor utama yang melatarbelakangi hal ini adalah masa remaja merupakan periode percepatan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan, yang sering kali diiringi dengan perubahan kebiasaan makan dan pola hidup. Meskipun setiap remaja mempunyai tuntutan yang berbeda, tingkat aktivitas pada usia remaja akan mulai cukup meningkat ketika mendekati usia Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Status gizi remaja dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor, antara lain kebiasaan makan, kondisi ekonomi, latar belakang budaya, dan tingkat aktivitas fisik. Aktivitas fisik didefinisikan sebagai segala bentuk gerakan tubuh yang meningkatkan pengeluaran energi, sehingga berperan dalam menjaga keseimbangan energi dan mencegah risiko kelebihan berat badan. Tujuan: Untuk menganalisis hubungan antara aktivitas fisik dan status gizi peserta didik di SMP. Metode: Penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain observasional analitik menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional study. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Maret–Juli 2025 di SMP Negeri 2 Pineleng dengan melibatkan 77 responden kelas VII dan VIII. Instrumen penelitian meliputi kuesioner International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) serta alat ukur tinggi badan dan berat badan merk SECA. Analisis data dilakukan secara univariat dan bivariat, dengan uji hubungan antar variabel menggunakan uji Fisher’s Exact Test. Hasil: Sebagian responden memiliki aktivitas fisik aktif berjumlah 69 responden dan untuk status gizi baik berjumlah 58 responden. Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara aktivitas fisik dengan status gizi dengan nilai p = 0.019 (p<0.05).   Kata Kunci: Aktivitas Fisik; Remaja; Status Gizi.

Abstract

Background: According to the Global Nutrition Report, rates of malnutrition among adolescents have declined, but cases of obesity and overweight have increased significantly. In 2019, an estimated 15.1% of adolescents were obese, while 5.7% were classified as underweight. This situation creates a nutritional problem known as the "triple burden of malnutrition," a combination of undernutrition, overweight, and micronutrient deficiencies. Breakfast habits are one factor influencing nutritional status. Purpose: To determine the relationship between breakfast habits and nutritional status in junior high school students. Method: This quantitative, observational, and analytical study used a cross-sectional study design conducted at Pineleng 2 Public Junior High School, Minahasa Regency, involving 77 respondents. The variables in this study were breakfast habits and nutritional status. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements (weight and height) to determine BMI/A, followed by Z-scores and a non-sequential 2x24-hour breakfast habits and food recall questionnaire. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using Fisher's exact test through the Statistical Program for Social Sciences to see the relationship between variables. Results: The majority of respondents (75.3%) had normal nutritional status, while 24.7% were categorized as abnormal (underweight, overweight, or obese). Ninety-four percent of students had frequent breakfast habits (≥4 times/week), and 5.2% had infrequent breakfast habits (<4 times/week). Students with good breakfast habits were mostly those with normal nutritional status (p=0.044) (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between breakfast habits and nutritional status. Good breakfast habits are a determining factor in students' nutritional status. Regular and nutritious breakfasts help meet daily nutritional needs while maintaining ideal nutritional status according to body mass index and age. In addition to breakfast habits, other important factors influencing nutritional status include a balanced diet and general health. Suggestion: Future researchers are encouraged to conduct research on the factors influencing breakfast habits, macronutrient intake, and nutritional status of school students.   Keywords: Breakfast Habits; Lessons; Nutritional Status.   Pendahuluan: Berdasarkan laporan Global Nutrition Report, angka kekurangan gizi pada remaja memang menurun, tetapi kasus obesitas dan kelebihan berat badan justru mengalami kenaikan yang cukup signifikan. Pada tahun 2019, diperkirakan 15.1% remaja mengalami obesitas, sedangkan 5.7% tergolong kekurangan berat badan. Kondisi ini menimbulkan masalah gizi yang disebut "triple burden of malnutrition", yaitu kombinasi antara kurang gizi, kelebihan berat badan, dan defisiensi mikronutrien. Kebiasaan sarapan merupakan salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi status gizi. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kebiasaan sarapan dengan status gizi pada pelajar SMP. Metode: Penelitian kuantitaif yang bersifat observasional analitik dengan menggunakan desain atau rancangan cross sectional study yang dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 2 Pineleng, Kabupaten Minahasa dengan melibatkan 77 responden. Variabel dalam penelitian ini adalah kebiasaan sarapan dan status gizi. Data dikumpulkan melalui pengukuran antropometri (berat badan dan tinggi badan) untuk mengetahui IMT/U, dilanjutkan dengan Z-score serta kuesioner kebiasaan sarapan dan food recall 2x24 jam secara tidak berurutan. Analisis data dilakukan secara univariat dan bivariat dengan uji Fisher’s exact test melalui program Statistical Program for Social Sciences untuk melihat hubungan antara variabel. Hasil: Sebagian besar responden 75.3% memiliki status gizi normal, sementara 24.7% termasuk dalam kategori tidak normal (kurus, gemuk, atau obesitas). Sebanyak 94.8% siswa memiliki kebiasaan sarapan yang sering (≥4 kali/minggu), dan sebanyak 5.2% siswa memiliki kebiasaan sarapan yang jarang (<4 kali/minggu). Siswa yang memiliki kebiasaan sarapan yang baik didominasi dengan status gizi normal (p=0.044) (p<0.05). Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara kebiasaan sarapan dengan status gizi. Kebiasaan sarapan yang baik merupakan salah satu faktor penentu status gizi siswa. Sarapan yang teratur dan bergizi membantu memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi harian sekaligus mempertahankan status gizi ideal sesuai indeks massa tubuh dan kategori usia. Selain kebiasaan sarapan, faktor penting lain yang turut memengaruhi status gizi meliputi pola makan seimbang dan kondisi kesehatan secara umum. Saran: Bagi peneliti selanjutnya diharapkan dapat melakukan penelitian terkait tentang faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kebiasaan sarapan pagi, asupan zat gizi makronutrien dan status gizi siswa di sekolah.   Kata Kunci: Kebiasaan Sarapan; Pelajaran; Status Gizi.

Abstract

Background: Introduction: Wasting is a condition characterized by rapid weight loss or inability to gain weight, often reflecting acute malnutrition. Purpose: To identify and analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and wasting in toddlers aged 6 to 12 months. Method: This quantitative study used an observational analytical design and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 90 toddlers aged 6-12 months living in Warembungan, Pineleng Satu, Pineleng Satu Timur, Pineleng Dua, and Pineleng Dua Indah villages. The sampling technique used total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire that explored exclusive breastfeeding history and anthropometric measurements to determine wasting status based on weight-for-height (BW/H) indicators according to WHO standards. Results: A total of 52.2% of toddlers were not exclusively breastfed, and 4.4% were wasted. Statistical tesing using the Fisher's Exact test showed a p-value of 0.3455 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and wasting. Conclusion: Although exclusive breastfeeding did not significantly impact wasting in this population, other factors may play a significant role. These factors may include socioeconomic status, access to health services, and complementary feeding practices. Suggestion: Mothers with toddlers should participate more actively in routine Posyandu (integrated health posts) activities to monitor their children's nutritional status and consult with health workers if they experience breastfeeding difficulties.   Keywords: Exclusive Breastfeeding; Toddlers; Wasting.   Pendahuluan: Wasting adalah kondisi yang ditandai dengan penurunan berat badan yang cepat atau ketidakmampuan untuk menambah berat badan, yang sering kali mencerminkan malnutrisi akut. Tujuan: Untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis hubungan antara pemberian ASI eksklusif dan kejadian wasting pada balita usia 6 hingga 12 bulan. Metode: Penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain observasional analitik dan pendekatan cross-sectional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 90 balita berusia 6-12 bulan yang berdomisili di desa Warembungan, Pineleng Satu, Pineleng Satu Timur, Pineleng Dua, dan Pineleng Dua Indah. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan kuesioner yang menggali riwayat pemberian ASI eksklusif dan pengukuran antropometri untuk menentukan status wasting berdasarkan indikator berat badan menurut tinggi badan (BB/TB) sesuai standar WHO. Hasil: Sebanyak 52.2% balita tidak menerima ASI eksklusif dan 4.4% balita mengalami wasting. Uji statistik menggunakan uji Fisher’s Exact menunjukkan nilai p = 0.3455 (p > 0.05), mengindikasikan tidak adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara pemberian ASI eksklusif dan kejadian wasting. Simpulan: Meskipun pemberian ASI eksklusif tidak memiliki dampak signifikan terhadap kejadian wasting pada populasi ini, faktor lain mungkin memainkan peran yang penting. Faktor-faktor tersebut dapat mencakup status sosial ekonomi, akses terhadap layanan kesehatan, dan praktik pemberian makanan pendamping. Saran: Bagi ibu yang memiliki balita untuk lebih aktif berpartisipasi kegiatan posyandu secara rutin agar dapat memantau perkembangan status gizi anak serta berkonsultasi kepada tenaga kesehatan jika mengalami kendala dalam menyusui.   Kata Kunci: ASI Eksklusif; Balita; Wasting.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service initiative was designed to enhance knowledge of stunting among mothers with toddlers and pregnant women as well as to train Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post) cadres in accurate anthropometric measurements as a preventive measure against stunting. Content: The program was executed through educational and training sessions at the Wineru Village Hall, Likupang Timur District, North Minahasa Regency, on January 30, 2024. The educational session targeted mothers with toddlers and pregnant women, while the training focused on anthropometric measurement for Posyandu cadres, who hold a pivotal role in child care in Indonesia. The program was culminated in the distribution of Supplementary Food (PMT), including biscuits, milk, and snacks, to all participants. The program’s efficacy was assessed through pre- and post-tests administered to the mothers and an evaluation of the Posyandu cadres adherence to athropometric measurement procedures. Paired t-test analysis indicated a significant increase in maternal knowledge following the educational session (p< 0.05). The assessment of measurement practices demonstrated that all cadres performed anthropometric measurements in accordance with the correct protocols. These educational and training sessions was proven effective in enhancing mothers and pregnant women’s knowledge of stunting and cadre skills concerning stunting prevention, as evidenced by the significant improvements in pre- and post-test results and the cadres’ compliance with anthropometric measurement procedures. This program also successfully elevated awareness and imparted essential skills for stunting prevention within the community. Additionally, the analysis indicated that community-based interventions can significantly contribute to reducing stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Pola konsumsi yang baik mendukung status gizi optimal tiap individu. Namun kenyataan saat ini di Indonesia masih jauh dari pola konsumsi yang baik. Isu ini makin mendapat perhatian di masa pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola konsumsi mahasiswa FKM Unsrat saat pandemi COVID-19. Jenis penelitian adalah mix-method yang menggabungkan survei deskriptif dan analisis kualitatif. Subjek penelitian yaitu mahasiswa FKM Unsrat yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi dengan jumlah 346 orang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama 6 bulan. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk pengambilan data yaitu kuesioner pola makan dan panduan focus group discussion. Hasil penelitian menunjukan sebagian besar responden kategori pola makannya cukup, analisis kualitatif menunjukan bahwa saat pandemi COVID-19 responden masih kesulitan mengatur pola makan yang baik sesuai panduan PUGS, baik jumlah, frekuensi dan jenisnya.

Abstract

Stunting yang merupakan manifestasi dari kekurangan gizi kronis pada anak di bawah lima tahun, masih menjadi tantangan kesehatan yang signifikan di Indonesia. Meskipun upaya nasional telah dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah ini, prevalensi stunting masih relatif tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi hubungan antara ketahanan pangan rumah tangga dan stunting pada anak di daerah pedesaan pesisir dan pulau kecil terluar Kabupaten Siau Tagulandang Biaro (Sitaro), Sulawesi Utara. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan desain penelitian cross-sectional, di mana data dikumpulkan dari 59 anak beserta orang tua pada tahun 2021. Lokasi pengumpulan data meliputi Kecamatan Siau Timur sebagai pedesaan pesisir, serta Pulau Makalehi sebagai pulau kecil terluar. Ketahanan pangan rumah tangga diukur menggunakan US-FSSM (US Household Food Security/Hunger Survey Module), sementara status stunting ditentukan dengan mengukur z-score tinggi badan anak menurut usia (TB/U). Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa 6,8% rumah tangga mengalami kerawanan pangan rumah tangga, 15,3% anak mengalami stunting. Analisis lebih lanjut menggunakan uji Fisher Exact menemukan bahwa p-value untuk hubungan variabel ketahanan pangan rumah tangga dan stunting yaitu sebesar 0.494 (> 0.05). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ditemukan hubungan yang signifikan secara statistik antara ketahanan pangan rumah tangga dan stunting. Temuan ini menegaskan kompleksitas masalah stunting dan menyoroti perlunya penelitian lebih lanjut untuk memahami faktor-faktor yang mendasari kondisi ini.

Abstract

Playing a vital role in EFL education, teachers often encounter challenges when teaching students English. This study focuses on exploring challenges faced by EFL teachers in Indonesia. The study was conducted through qualitative research design with a case study approach. A total of 5 male and female EFL teachers in senior high schools in North Sulawesi participated in interview sessions during the data collection. A semi-structured interview was conducted to obtain comprehensive descriptions of teachers’ challenges in teaching English in EFL context. The interview data was transcribed, coded, and grouped to decide the themes. The findings indicated that the primary challenges they encountered when teaching EFL including demotivated students, excessive working hours, numerous obligations, improper utilization of technology by students, and governmental expectations resulted from the Merdeka Curriculum. These results suggest complex problems experienced by teachers in Indonesia. Understanding teachers’ challenges in EFL education give insights to stakeholders, including policy maker and curriculum developers to optimize EFL education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The main benefit of exclusive breastfeeding is that it supports both brain and physical development in infants. This is because, from birth to six months of age, babies should receive nutrition exclusively from breast milk. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research, only 37.3% of infants in Indonesia received exclusive breastfeeding, while in North Sulawesi Province, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in 2018 reached 64.95%. This relatively low percentage is primarily due to socio-cultural factors and a lack of awareness among pregnant mothers regarding the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. One effective method to improve maternal health knowledge is through education.This study aims to assess the difference in maternal knowledge before and after an intervention in the form of a health education session on exclusive breastfeeding in Lansot Village, Tomohon City, North Sulawesi Province. The intervention was conducted on August 26, 2024, in the form of an educational session on exclusive breastfeeding. Post-test results indicated a significant improvement in the knowledge of mothers who attended the session regarding the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0–6 months.

Abstract

Fase kehidupan usia remaja merupakan periode dimana  perubahan yang pesat pada fase tumbuh kembang secara fisik, psikologis maupun sosial. Perubahan ini tentunya dipengaruhi kebutuhan gizi maupun mempengaruhi pemenuhan gizi remaja. Pola makan adalah perilaku yang sangat krusial pengaruhnya pada keadaan gizi remaja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman konsumsi remaja yang ada di daerah pesisir Kota Bitung. Desain penelitian ini adalah survei deskriptif, dilaksanakan bulan Mei 2021 – Januari 2022 di Kelurahan Danowudu Kecamatan Ranowulu Kota Bitung. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 257 remaja, dengan jumlah sampel 170 responden. Perhitungan jumlah sampel menggunakan rumus lameshow dengan teknik pengambilan sampel proportional random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner FFQ (food frequency questionnaire) yang dijalankan secara daring. Analisis data dalam penelitian menggunakan analisis univariat deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan remaja di daerah pesisir Kota Bitung memiliki keanekaragaman konsumsi yang baik pada kelompok makanan pokok, lauk hewani, dan lauk nabati sedangkan pada kelompok makanan sayuran dan buah-buahan dapat dikatakan kurang. Selain itu remaja di Kota Bitung juga masih banyak yang sering mengonsumsi makanan instan, snack, kue dan es krim karena itu, informasi mengenai pola makan yang bergizi seimbang masih perlu untuk terus disosialisasikan pada kelompok ini.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension, or high blood pressure, has been recognized as a major global health issue. While it is often linked to older age, the prevalence of hypertension among adolescents has been on the rise. Hypertension in adolescents is particularly concerning because it can persist into adulthood, increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality. Although clinical prevalence among children and adolescents is lower than in adults, research suggests that essential hypertension in adults often begins during adolescence. Therefore, it is essential to empower the community to manage its risk factors effectively.Objective: This program aims to enhance public knowledge, particularly among adolescents, on how to control the risk factors for hypertension. The goal is to equip adolescents with accurate knowledge of hypertension risk factors.Methods: The methods employed in this program include health education through counseling sessions and blood pressure measurements conducted among adolescents, specifically students from SMA Katolik Karitas Tomohon and SMP Katolik Gonzaga Tomohon.Results: Statistical analysis using the T-test revealed a significant difference in students' knowledge before and after the counseling sessions, with a p-value of 0.000. This indicates a significant increase in adolescents' knowledge about hypertension after receiving counseling. Early detection through blood pressure measurements showed an increase in blood pressure among some adolescents. The majority of students, 56 (71.8%), had normal blood pressure, while 12 students (15.4%) exhibited elevated blood pressure. Furthermore, 6 students (7.7%) were classified as having stage 1 hypertension, and 4 students (5.1%) were found to have stage 2 hypertension.
