Abstract

Speaking is the skill of conveying messages through spoken language, by speaking so that the fulfillment of the need to communicate with the surrounding, environment based on initial observations with people around speaking skills is still lacking.The low ability to speak with the results of interviews with people around it’s caused by internal factors and external factors that come from their techniques in obtaining and applying theories regarding speaking skills. Interview techniques with certain topics are an attempt to improve speaking skills to describe something, give opinions and tell stories is the way to approach the object. The benefits of this research include theoretical and practical benefits, theoretically, the results of this study are expected to contribute knowledge related to the use of appropriate techniques in learning to speak, practically the results of this study are expected to be useful for the author as the development of knowledge in the field of speaking skills. This study used a random design with people around, data collection was done by interviewing the non-test data collection tools used were interviews and observation.  The data analysis was done qualitatively. The conclusion of this research is to add the knowledge about what is the effective way to develop speaking skills and the author hopes all the readers can get the aim from this research.

Abstract

 This study aims to describe the teacher's strategy in teaching speaking skills to the students of SMP Dharma Pancasila Medan. This is done to find out what the teacher uses in teaching speaking skills to special class students at Smp Dharma Pancasila Medan, the strategies used by the teacher, as well as the problems and solutions faced in the implementation of teaching and learning. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative methodology. The research subjects were teachers at SMP Dharma Pancasila Medan. Data was collected through a questionnaire with an English teacher. The results showed that the strategy used by the teacher was only a question and answer strategy.Keywords: teacher’s strategies, speaking skills, English teacher.

Abstract

Abstract. This research is dedicated to the research vocabulary teaching strategies by EFL teachers of Junior High School. The rationale of this research is to investigate the teachers’ strategies in the teaching and learning process. In addition, this study applied a qualitative approach to analyze data Data were collected in-depth survey by questionnaire with ten teachers as respondents. In collecting data there 3 steps, namely The writer selected the respondents (ten teachers), the writer made ten questions in a questionnaire for respondents by using google form and The writer wrote a survey’s answer based on the survey that had been recorded.In this research, the questions are divided into two parts namely, multiple-choice and essay. In the multiple-choice, the teacher just chose one of the options and on the essays, the teacher can give short or long answers. The data were analyzed in some way:(1)classify data,(2)make a transcript data in written language, (3)Give a sign, and (4) gather the same sign. In general, a result shows the teacher strategies in  (1) teacher preparation in teaching vocabulary,(2) sources of vocabulary teaching, (3) kind of teacher question, (4) teacher activities during the teaching process, and (5) students activities during the earning process. This result can be seen by the teacher’s answers in the questionnaire. This result is expected to help the teacher to learn vocabulary and will greatly contribute for the teacher to teaching vocabulary.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between inner material student book “ When English Rings a Bell “ for grade VIII SMP with Core Competenicies and Basic Cognitive Field 2013 Curriculu and the realm of psychomotor learning. This research uses descriptive qualitative content analysis as a research method. Data collected from English student book “When English Rings a Bell” for eighth graders of junior high school. The school was written by the writing team of the Ministry of Education and Culture Indonesia. In this study the material in the textbook is classified based on basic competence three as cognitive domain and basic competence four as psychomotor domain.  Data is extracted from the data source and entered into checklist table to make comparisons between material in textbooks and the material needed in the 2013 English syllabus for grade VIII students Junior high school.

Abstract

This research is intended to know whether the teaching and learning process of reading comprehension using the Content Area Reading and Learning English Book helps to develop students' understanding and people who want to master English language skills, one of which is reading, in overcoming reading comprehension problems using reading books will increase  structure or strategy.  This research uses qualitative methods. The writing of this scientific paper aims to find out what strategies are used in developing students' skills or abilities, as well as those who want to master the English reading skills which are the basis of English before reaching writing and speaking, and according to the application in the Content Area Reading and Learning English Book, and the results of the research strategy used in learning to read are small group teams towards clearly articulated goals.

Abstract

In language learning, vocabulary mastery is very important, so a comprehensive language learning strategy is needed. Vocabulary is all words contained in a language, students must know vocabulary to produce a sentence. Vocabulary is also a fundamental element for learning English. Thus, the purpose of the study was to find out whether the strategies and methods that teachers use in junior high school in English learning can improve students' vocabulary or not. The subjects analyzed in the study were English teachers in junior high school. This research uses a qualitative research approach with survey research design in the form of Google forms. Researchers gave 10 related questions about vocabulary assessments conducted by Junior High School English Teacher and then shared with each respondents. The results of this study show that the teacher always use vocabulary in learning English for one semester, the learning resources they use are books, dictionaries and the internet, 80% of the teachers used multiple choice and essay types for questions about vocabulary, 70% of teachers used more than 10 test items to test vocabulary mastery in a meeting session, 80% of teachers agree that vocabulary learning can be combined with other learning materials in English, 70% of teachers always give assignments to students regarding vocabulary material, 80% of teachers use the learning media method for vocabulary learning, on average, teachers use 40% of vocabulary material in student exams. With strategies and methods used by teachers only 50% can achieve the target to add vocabulary to their students.

Abstract

The purpose of carrying out this research is to provide an understanding of the students 'ability to read that is very low than it should be. In this case the students' low reading comprehension is caused by several things, namely the bad teaching and learning process makes it difficult for students to understand how to read correctly.  we use Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) this technique is used in achieving the process of understanding and learning to read students to better and easier for students to understand. This research is a classroom action research (CAR).In this study, it was conducted in two stages, Observation and interviews were used to collect data which were then analyzed qualitatively.Students’ achievement of daily-test, the students’ self reflection in the form of rating format and the students’ achievement of post-tests were used in order to support the data collected. The results of this study indicate that TBLT can improve not only the teaching learning process but also the class 8 of SMP swasta cendramata students’ reading comprehension in recount texts.Thus, from the research on the TBLT technique, it was seen that the desire and interest of students in learning to read was increasingly diligent and began to master good reading techniques, as well as enjoying the process of learning to read.

Abstract

AbstractListening is one of the most basic skill a person who lives in society need to have. Listening and comprehending words and phrases in their native language is not a problem for most people, but apart from that, every language skill requires some training and habituation before it can be used in even the smallest scale of social interaction. Therefore the authors researched two common media of teaching, is music and story. The research aims to prove that these media is still effective and contained a lot of potential for future development. This research collected data essential for the research through an online survey targeted at 10 teachers or lecturers actively teaching English. The results of the research are divided into qualitative and quantitative data and processed separately. The conclusions are then drawn by combining the culmination of both types of data.

Abstract

A retrospective study on English teachers' strategies to improve student fluency describes strategies implemented by teachers to enhance student fluency. It is also the most effective strategy for improving the speaking ability of students. Whereas there are many studies on teachers' speaking skills in Indonesia, there are still few studies argue teachers' speaking strategies to improve students' speaking skills. The purpose of this study is to find strategies that teachers can apply to enhance their students' fluency in English and effective strategies that can be used in learning to improve their students' fluency. This research method uses the qualitative research method and survey design. As a research tool, researcher used a questionnaire that was distributed to 10 English teachers who were used as respondents or research subjects by the researchers. The researchers then collected responses from the questionnaire, and from the results of the data collected, the researchers found that the strategies used by teachers had a significant impact on improving students' fluency. The methods used by teachers should be effective and understandable to students. Similar to, use of media to support achievement of learning indicators. Furthermore, teachers must be able to invite students to take an active role in learning by motivating them. Based on this research, we can conclude that speaking is one of the basic skills that language learners must master. Strategies employed by teachers have a significant impact on student fluency development.
