Abstract

Reading comprehension remains a major challenge in Indonesian elementary education, requiring innovative and engaging learning media that integrate digital technology and gamification. This study addresses the need for interactive digital learning tools by developing a Genially-based digital Snakes and Ladders game to support reading comprehension among Phase C students. This research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the ADDIE model. The effectiveness of the developed media was examined through a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 31 Phase C students. Data were collected using reading comprehension tests, expert validation sheets, and student response questionnaires. Data analysis included paired sample t-test and N-Gain to measure learning improvement. The results showed that the digital Snakes and Ladders game was feasible and appropriate based on expert validation. Students responded positively, indicating increased motivation and engagement in reading activities. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p 0.05), with an N-Gain value of 0.71, categorized as high. This indicates a substantial improvement in students’ reading comprehension after using the Genially-based game. The findings demonstrate that integrating interactive storytelling and game-based digital media can effectively enhance reading comprehension among elementary students. The Genially-based digital Snakes and Ladders game provides an engaging learning environment that supports active participation and deeper understanding of reading texts. This media has strong potential to be adapted for other learning materials and broader educational contexts.

Abstract

Fractions in elementary school mathematics are still considered difficult by students because the concepts are abstract and require deeper thinking skills. This condition causes students to experience difficulties in understanding the concepts of numerators, denominators, and solving fraction problems. Therefore, a learning approach is needed that can help students understand their own thinking processes so that learning becomes more meaningful and easier to understand. This study aims to analyze metacognitive strategies in learning fractions in mathematics for fourth-grade students at JQ Elementary School. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, tests, and questionnaires of fourth-grade students at JQ Elementary School. The results showed that the metacognitive approach was able to improve students' understanding of fractions through reflection activities, discussions, and the use of concrete media in the form of pizza boards. Students became more active, critical, and able to solve mathematical problems in a more focused manner, making learning more effective and meaningful.

Abstract

Integrating local wisdom into English instruction is a crucial step in creating meaningful, relevant learning experiences for pupils in the 21st century. The objective of this study, which uses a quantitative method with a Quasi-Experimental Design, is to determine the significance of the local wisdom-based PBL model in increasing primary school pupils' learning motivation in the English subject. Although the PBL model has been widely studied as an effective learning model that can increase pupils’ motivation to learn, there remains a significant research gap in the number of studies examining the integration of local wisdom values into the PBL model in the context of English learning in primary schools. A 21-item questionnaire, aligned with learning motivation indicators, was used as the primary instrument to collect primary data in this study. The paired sample t-test and the N-Gain test were used in this study as data analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that the PBL model significantly increases pupils’ motivation to learn in the English subject. The sig illustrates this. value in the experimental class is <0.000, and the N-Gain score of 0.7658 is in the high category. The main contribution of this study is the development of a PBL learning model integrated with Sundanese local wisdom values, which are still relatively new in English subjects in primary schools.
