Abstract

Adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment in people with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) is shaped by the confidence and self-efficacy of ODHA in undergoing ARV therapy, which ultimately affects treatment success. This study aimed to analyse the relationship between health literacy, health beliefs, and self-efficacy in ARV treatment in ODHA in hospitals. This quantitative study with a cross-sectional design involved a sample of 160 ODHA patients undergoing ARV therapy at Hospital X, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that was tested for validity and reliability. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test to assess the relationship between health literacy, health confidence, and self-efficacy. The results showed a significant relationship between health literacy and health confidence (p = 0.001) and self-efficacy (p = 0.002). Respondents with high health literacy mostly had health confidence and self-efficacy in the medium to high categories, while respondents with low health literacy tended to be in the low confidence and self-efficacy categories. Health literacy was significantly related to the confidence and self-efficacy of ODHA undergoing ARV treatment. Increasing health literacy, which is integrated with strengthening confidence and self-efficacy, is needed to support treatment adherence and improve the quality of life of ODHA.

Abstract

End-stage kidney disease is a global health problem with a steadily increasing prevalence. Nurses need standardized nursing care instruments to improve care quality and contribute to overall health care improvement. This study aimed to develop an Indonesian nursing care instrument for patients with end-stage kidney disease. The study used a research and development design conducted in two stages. In the first stage, 101 medical records and 11 respondents were involved, while the second stage included 9 respondents. Samples were selected using purposive sampling. Validity and reliability were tested using the Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and Kuder–Richardson 20 (KR-20), and data were analyzed descriptively. The instrument was developed for 10 nursing diagnoses: hypervolemia, ineffective breathing pattern, impaired gas exchange, activity intolerance, anxiety, risk of electrolyte imbalance, risk of imbalanced nutrition, risk of falling, risk of ineffective renal perfusion, and readiness for enhanced nutrition. The instrument was aligned with Indonesian nursing standards, including SDKI, SLKI, and SIKI. By providing structured guidance for diagnoses, outcomes, and interventions, this instrument supports nurses in daily practice, improves documentation accuracy, and enhances consistency and quality of nursing care. Nurses’ evaluations indicated that the instrument is feasible for clinical implementation.

Abstract

Background: The implementation of patient safety goals in hospitals, including operating rooms, is inseparable from the competence of nurses. High levels of competence also contribute to improving the quality of nursing care and enhancing patient safety. This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between the clinical competence of operating room nurses and the achievement of patient safety goals. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design and collected data from seven private hospitals in Ambon City, with a sample of 66 surgical nurses. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, a method of selecting participants from a population without regard to the strata within that population. Results: The clinical competence of surgical nurses was measured using three subdomains aligned with competency areas: ethical and legal professional practice and cultural sensitivity; nursing care provision and management; and personal and professional quality development. The frequency distribution of respondents was analyzed based on these clinical competence domains. There was a significant relationship between the clinical competence of surgical nurses and patient safety goals, particularly regarding surgical procedures. Conclusions: Clinical competence is a critical component of patient safety, as it helps ensure that nurses provide safe and effective care while promoting active involvement and participation in achieving patient safety goals.
