Abstract

Background: Flavonoids found mainly as pharmacologically active natural ingredient of moringa (Moringa oleifera L.). Therefore, optimizing the solvent to maximize the levels of flavonoid components is needed. Objective: This study was conducted to determine the optimum solvent composition for extracting flavonoid compounds from moringa leaves using the simplex lattice design (SLD). Methods: Moringa leaves were extracted using the sonication method with five combinations of 96% ethanol and water as the solvent. The solvent composition was optimized using Design-Expert version 11 software. Moreover, UV-Vis spectrophotometry was used to screen and identify flavonoid content. Results: Flavonoids were detected in moringa extract. Using the F test, a valid SLD equation, y= 440,243(A) + 142,983(B) - 47,324(A)(B), was obtained. This equation shows that the solvent ethanol 96% : water (100:0) was the best solvent and produced the maximum amount of moringa flavonoid content, which was 440,2427 mg QE/g extract. Conclusion: The flavonoid content was directly proportional to the high composition of 96% ethanol.

Abstract

Anti-dandruff shampoo on the market still uses zinc pyriton which has the side effect of causing hair loss. Pomegranate leaves have strong antifungal activity against dandruff-causing fungi. This research aims to determine the optimum formula and physical properties of pomegranate leaf shampoo preparations with variations of SLS and cocamide DEA. The ethanol extract of pomegranate leaves was extracted by soxhletation and carried out in a tube test. Eight shampoo formula designs were determined using the SLD method. The shampoo was tested for foam height, pH, and viscosity to obtain the optimum formula. The optimum shampoo preparation was tested for physical properties, including organoleptic tests, homogeneity, foam stability, foam height, pH, and viscosity. The results of the test for the physical properties of the optimum shampoo preparation were verified using the SPSS application with the one-sample t-test method. Pomegranate leaf ethanol extract positively contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The optimization results obtained the optimum shampoo formula, namely a combination of SLS 5.5% and cocamide DEA 15.5%. Optimum formula shampoo has a black color, menthol odor, gel form, ingredients mixed homogeneously, foam stability 81.83%, foam height 9.30 ± 0.26 cm, pH 5.91 ± 0.45, and viscosity 1646.66 ± 220.23 cP.

Abstract

Publikasi ilmiah merupakan salah satu syarat yudisium bagi sarjana di Universitas Mataram, namun jumlah publikasi ilmiah yang dilakukan mahasiswa masih kurang. Kurangnya minat mahasiswa dalam melakukan publikasi dapat disebabkan oleh pemahaman yang masih minim terkait penulisan artikel. Tujuan kegiatan ini untuk meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa Farmasi NTB dalam melakukan publikasi ilmiah. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition). Kegiatan ini terdiri dua kegiatan yaitu seminar dan workshop. Jumlah peserta seminar 34 mahasiswa dan 15 mahasiswa yang mengikuti workshop. Tingkat pemahaman mahasiswa dilihat dengan melakukan pre-test dan post-test. Rata-rata nilai pre-test dan post-test seminar adalah 46,27% dan 62,61% dan pada workshop adalah 58,33% dan 55%. Terdapat kenaikan nilai pengetahuan mahasiswa pada sesi seminar, namun pada sesi workshop terdapat penurunan, hal ini dapat disebabkan oleh kejenuhan mahasiswa ketika sesi workshop. Berdasarkan hasil pengabdian ini, dapat disimpulkan terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan mahasiswa terhadap penulisan artikel ilmiah.

Abstract

Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) contain secondary metabolite compounds: flavonoids and polyphenols which has bioactivity as antioxidants. Antioxidants act as photoprotector, so it can be formulated into sun protection product. The selection of cream base is very important due to it’s not only as vehicle of active ingredients but also affecting cream’s physical properties and effectiveness. This study aims to determine the composition of the optimum base formula and evaluation formula cream of extract katuk leaves with variations concentration of stearic acid, TEA, and glycerin. Formula optimization was conducted through the Simplex Lattice Design methode with 13 formulas. The results of evaluation were processed with Design Expert software. The optimum formula was respectively at 13.16% stearic acid, 12% glycerin, and 3.84% TEA. The optimum formula cream evaluation was spreadability in 4.89 cm, 0.56 s stickiness power, and pH 6,1. Acceptability test results showed that the cream could accepted by society very well.

Abstract

The repeated use of cooking oil more than twice is still common in Indonesian society. However, used cooking oil can negatively affect health, being even more detrimental than saturated fatty acids. Additionally, it contributes to pollution in soil and water. One effective method for repurposing used cooking oil is by converting it into soap. This community service initiative aims to promote the utilization of used cooking oil in economically valuable products while reducing the amount of waste oil that is discarded into the environment. The training was conducted for PKK cadres in Bengkaung Village and facilitated by pharmacists, dermatologists, and students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Mataram. The soap-making process begins by adding charcoal to the used cooking oil for 72 hours. This step helps remove hazardous substances and unpleasant odors. Afterward, the oil is filtered and combined with essential soap-making ingredients, including sunflower oil, virgin coconut oil (VCO), olive oil, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and water. NaOH is critical for the saponification process, which transforms the oil into soap. To enhance the aesthetic value and benefits of the soap, ingredients like honey, yogurt, or natural dyes such as butterfly pea flowers can be incorporated. The mixture is then poured into molds and allowed to harden. Given the simple process and the ease of obtaining the necessary tools and materials, the PKK cadres in Bengkaung Village have shown enthusiasm for making soap from used cooking oil. This activity is expected to broaden their knowledge and provide business opportunities to help increase family income in the village.

Abstract

Etnomedisin merupakan cabang dari ilmu medis yang membahas asal mula penyakit, serta sebab-sebab dan cara pengobatan menurut kelompok masyarakat tertentu. Masyarakat di Desa Obel-Obel Kecamatan Sambelia masih menggunakan pengobatan alternatif yang dilakukan oleh belian menggunakan tumbuhan sebagai obat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik informan serta komposisi, cara pembuatan dan cara penggunaan ramuan, dan nilai penting tumbuhan. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif, data kuantitatif berupa nilai penting yang di dapatkan akan diolah menggunakan parameter Index of Cultural Significant (ICS) dan Fidelity Level (FL). Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan 6 orang informan, terdapat 24 spesies dari 18 famili tumbuhan yang digunakan untuk pembuatan ramuan penyakit demam, batuk, pencernaan, kulit, dan patah tulang. Proses pembuatan ramuan yaitu digiling dan diseduh. Terdapat cara penggunaan ramuan yaitu diminum, dioles, ditempel, dan dimakan. Nilai ICS tertinggi, yaitu 90 pada tumbuhan sirih (Piper betle L). Nilai FL tertinggi kategori demam yaitu Pohon kuda (Lannea coromandelica L) dengan nilai 50%. Nilai FL tertinggi kategori batuk yaitu sirih (Piper betle L) dengan nilai 49,8%. Nilai FL tertinggi kategori pencernaan yaitu jambu biji (Psidium guajava L) dengan nilai 50%. Nilai FL tertinggi kategori kulit yaitu sirih (Piper betle L) dengan nilai 66,4 % dan kunyit (Curcuma longa L) dengan nilai 66,4%. Nilai FL tertinggi kategori patah tulang yaitu sirih (Piper betle L) dengan nilai 33,2%. Dari data nilai pemanfaatan tertinggi perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk penyakit demam, batuk, pencernaan, kulit, dan patah tulang yaitu, Lannea coromandelica L, Piper betle L, dan Psidium guajava L.

Abstract

Minyak Songak merupakan obat tradisional yang berasal dari Desa Songak, Kecamatan Sakra, Kabupaten Lombok Timur yang secara empiris Minyak Songak dipercaya dapat menyembuhkan luka dengan cepat. Namun, belum ada penelitian secara ilmiah terkait aktivitas Minyak Songak dalam penyembuhan luka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas dan cara penggunaan terbaik dari Minyak Songak dalam proses penyembuhan luka. Metode uji luka insisi dilakukan secara in vivo menggunakan hewan uji tikus (Rattus norvegicus) yang dibagi kedalam empat kelompok secara acak dan diuji selama 20 hari. Kelompok I adalah kontrol positif yang diberikan povidone iodine secara topikal sehari dua kali, kelompok II adalah kontrol negatif yang tidak diberikan perlakuan, kelompok III adalah kelompok uji yang diberikan Minyak Songak secara oral dan topikal sehari satu kali, kelompok IV adalah kelompok uji yang diberikan Minyak Songak secara topikal sehari dua kali. Hasil yang didapatkan berupa persentase penyembuhan luka, diperoleh bahwa kelompok IV menunjukkan hasil terbaik pada hari ke-8 sebesar 98% dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Hasil uji tensile strength menunjukkan bahwa kelompok IV memiliki kekuatan penutupan luka terbaik sebesar 11,316 g/mm2 dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa Minyak Songak dengan cara penggunaan topikal sehari dua kali memiliki aktivitas penyembuhan luka dan dapat menyembuhkan luka dengan cepat.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance shows the urgent need for discovering alternative compounds with potential antibacterial activity. Ipomoea pes-caprae (commonly known as katang-katang) has emerged as a promising natural source of antibacterial agents due to its bioactive constituents, including phenolics, alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. The purpose of this article is to review and compare previously reported antibacterial research findings of Ipomoea pes-caprae against various bacterial species. The literature review was conducted using relevant sources obtained from Google Scholar and PubMed databases, covering publications from 2014 to 2024. The findings show that different parts of Ipomoea pes-caprae exhibit antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, attributed to the presence of antibacterial compounds. Factors influencing the antibacterial activity of the extracts include the type of test bacteria, the extract concentration, and the solvent used. It can be concluded that Ipomoea pes-caprae has potential as an antibacterial agent.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku mahasiswa di Universitas Mataram terhadapAV yaitu suatu kondisi kulit inflamasi kronis yang umum disebabkan oleh Cutibacterium acnes danStaphylococcus epidermidis. Kondisi ini banyak ditemukan pada remaja akhir dan dewasa muda berusia 18-25tahun yang sebagian besar adalah mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui karakteristik pengetahuan,sikap dan perilaku mahasiswa penderita AV terhadap penyakit dan pengobatan. Metode penelitian inimenggunakan desain deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional yang melibatkan 81 responden yang dipilihdengan metode purposive sampling. Teknik pengambilan data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner dandianalisis secara deskriptif. Data disajikan dalam bentuk tabel untuk memvisualisasikan persebaran jawaban.Hasil penelitian menunjukan sebagian besar responden memiliki pengetahuan baik (81,4%), sikap yang positif(100%) dan perilaku (96%). Instrumen penelitian ini telah menunjukkan validitas dan reliabilitas yang dapatdiuji ulang pada scope penelitian yang lebih besar dengan populasi yang lebih beragam meliputi masyarakatumum, mahasiswa, dan kelompok usia berbeda.Kata kunci: Akne vulgaris, Mahasiswa, Pengetahuan, Perilaku, Sikap

Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular diseases, particularly ischemic stroke, remain a global health burden, necessitating potential candidate for further antiplatelet with fewer side effects. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the antiplatelet potential of ethanolic extracts from the leaves and stems of Ipomoea pes-caprae (Katang-katang) from North Lombok, Indonesia, through ADP-induced platelet aggregation. Phytochemical screening, total tannin quantification, and in vitro antiplatelet assays were conducted. Methods: The leaves and stems were macerated with 96% ethanol, followed by qualitative phytochemical tests, Folin-Ciocalteu-based tannin analysis, and platelet aggregation inhibition assays using human platelet-rich plasma. Results: The extracts contained alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins, with higher tannin levels in leaves (4.02 ± 0.02 mgEAT/g) than stems (3.67 ± 0.17 mgEAT/g). Concentration-dependent antiplatelet activity was observed, with leaf extracts showing inhibition (85.9% at 2000 μg/mL) compared to stems (79.5%) and aspirin (77.3%). IC₅₀ values were 727.78 μg/mL (leaves) and 349.95 μg/mL (stems). Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences across concentrations (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that Ipomoea pes-caprae exhibits potent antiplatelet activity, attributed to its tannin and phytochemical content, with leaves being more effective. Although these findings suggest preliminary antiplatelet potential, further analysis is required to validate the method using aspirin IC₅₀, and subsequent in vivo and pharmacological investigations are necessary before therapeutic application can be claimed.
