Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Toddlers are the most vulnerable group to pneumonia because their respiratory systems are not yet fully developed. Exposure to cigarette smoke, both directly and indirectly, has been proven to be a major risk factor that increases the incidence of pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections in toddlers by 3-9 times. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the educational level of fathers who actively smoke and their level of understanding of pneumonia in toddlers. Methods: The quantitative analytical design used in this study is a cross-sectional approach. A total of 100 fathers surveyed through purposive sampling met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The results of the study indicate that the majority of active smokers have a secondary education (72.3%), followed by higher education (45.8%), and only a few have a primary education (3%). Seventy-four percent of respondents have sufficient knowledge about pneumonia in toddlers, with 22.9% having a good understanding, and 3% having insufficient knowledge. There was a significant relationship between education level and the knowledge of active smoking fathers about pneumonia in infants with a p-value <0.001 (p <0.05). It is recommended that public health interventions be tailored to education levels, especially for low-educated groups, to reduce the risk of pneumonia in infants due to exposure to cigarette smoke.

Abstract

This research is focused on a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of the leading economic sectors (base) and supporting sectors (non-base) that are developing in Payakumbuh City, as well as examining the impact of this sectoral configuration on the formulation of policies for the development of urban facilities and infrastructure. The data used in this study is secondary in nature and was obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Payakumbuh City, with the main sources being the publications Payakumbuh City in Figures 2025 and Payakumbuh City Regional Statistics 2025. The analytical method used is a quantitative descriptive approach, which is carried out by measuring the contribution of each economic sector to the region's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). Next, the results of the sectoral analysis are interpreted to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the structure and dynamics of the Payakumbuh City economy. The results of the study show that the wholesale and retail trade sector, processing industry, and the service sector group including corporate services, educational services, and government services have a dominant role in forming GRDP, so they are categorized as basic sectors. On the other hand, the agricultural and mining sectors show a relatively limited contribution, so they are included in the non-based sector group. These findings emphasize the need to prioritize development of infrastructure that supports trade and industrial activities, improve the quality of public services, and develop urban utility facilities on an ongoing basis to support the continued growth of key sectors. Thus, this research provides a strong empirical basis for urban development planning that is in line with real economic conditions, so that the resulting policies can be implemented in a more focused, efficient and effective manner.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between interpersonal intelligence and student learning styles (VARK model). The study was conducted at YPK Hedam Junior High School, Jayapura City, with 39 respondents. The research method used was a quantitative-correlational method with data collection using questionnaires on interpersonal intelligence and learning styles. In general, student preferences were more dominant in visual learning styles (71.79%) compared to auditory (17.95%) and kinesthetic (10.26%). A statistical technique called the Chi-Square test (X2 test) was used to determine the link between the learning style and interpersonal intelligence variables. A non-parametric statistical test called the Chi-Square test is used to assess if two categorical variables in a contingency table have a significant link or association. At df = 6 (12,592), the computed Chi-Square value is less than the Chi-Square table value. Furthermore, the p-value is significantly higher than 0.05. Thus, learning styles and interpersonal intelligence do not significantly correlate. This indicates that the degree of interpersonal intelligence in this data has no discernible impact on differences in student learning styles. Furthermore, to determine whether the results of this study can be generalized, future research may consider increasing the sample size

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a flipped classroom model assisted by microlearning videos on students’ learning outcomes in VLAN and trunking topics in vocational schools. VLAN and trunking concepts are essential yet cognitively demanding networking competencies that require both conceptual understanding and procedural configuration skills. While flipped learning and microlearning have been widely studied, limited empirical evidence exists in vocational secondary networking education. This study addresses that gap by examining their combined impact on cognitive and practical performance. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pre-test–post-test design was employed involving 64 Grade XI vocational students. The experimental group (n = 32) received flipped instruction supported by 5–8 minute microlearning videos, while the control group (n = 32) received conventional lecture-based instruction. Data were collected using a 30-item cognitive test and a performance-based practical skills rubric. Statistical analyses included independent and paired samples t-tests, normalized gain (N-gain), and Cohen’s d effect size. The experimental group achieved significantly higher post-test scores in cognitive outcomes (M = 84.38) compared to the control group (M = 72.19), t(62) = 6.58, p < 0.001. Practical skills scores were also significantly higher (86.72 vs. 74.53), t(62) = 7.46, p < 0.001. Normalized gain values were 0.60 (cognitive) and 0.68 (practical) in the experimental group, exceeding the control group (0.30 and 0.37). Large effect sizes were observed (d = 1.64 and d = 1.86). The quasi-experimental design and single-school context limit generalizability. Long-term retention was not examined. This study contributes empirical evidence supporting microlearning-enhanced flipped instruction in vocational networking education and provides a scalable model for competency-based technical training.

Abstract

Performance in competitive futsal relies heavily on mastery of technical skills, particularly passing and dribbling. However, conventional training techniques often fail to replicate the high-pressure dynamics of real matches, particularly in elementary-level development programs with limited training opportunities. Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a Small-Sided Games (SSG) training intervention on the passing and dribbling abilities of adolescent futsal players. This study used a quasi-experimental design with 15 extracurricular students at MAN 2 Palu who were assigned to a pre-test and a post-test. The intervention consisted of eight weeks of SSG training in 3v3 and 4v4 formats, with a focus on controlling space constraints and quick transitions. Technical skills were measured using standardized tools for passing and dribbling in futsal. SPSS 26 was used to analyze the data using a paired t-test, also known as a paired samples t-test. Results showed a highly significant improvement in technical performance (t = 16.733, p < 0.001). The mean technical score increased by 61.6%, rising from 4.33 ± 0.82 to 7.00 ± 0.91. Strong intervention reliability across the sample was confirmed by a 95% confidence interval (CI: 2.325–16.733). The use of Small-Sided Games (SSG) led to a significant increase in ball contact frequency and in decision-making under time-space pressure. According to this study, Small-Sided Games (SSG) are the most time-efficient and effective pedagogical tool for improving technical skills in school-based sports programs. These results enable coaches to shift from linear, repetitive drills to a non-linear, game-based training approach.
