Abstract

Parenting styles play an important role in determining the quality of early childhood development, making them a crucial topic of study for early childhood education teachers in understanding the dynamics of learning that occur in schools. This study aims to examine the influence of various parenting styles on child development and to identify the challenges faced by early childhood education teachers in aligning education at home and at school. This research employs a systematic literature review method by analyzing relevant scholarly articles related to parenting styles, social-emotional development, character development, and parent–teacher collaboration. The findings indicate that democratic and supportive parenting styles contribute positively to children’s social-emotional development and character formation, while authoritarian and permissive parenting styles tend to cause behavioral problems and difficulties in adapting to early childhood education environments. The discussion emphasizes that harmonious collaboration between parents and teachers is essential to create a consistent learning environment that supports the optimal development of young children.

Abstract

There is an urgent need to instill environmental awareness in early childhood (4-5 years old) at PGRI Jati Kindergarten. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach with the "Grophy Garbage" project model in increasing children's environmental awareness. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative approach with a specific study design, involving 15 Group A children at PGRI Jati Kindergarten. This rigorous methodology applies the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model (planning, implementation, observation, and reflection) to ensure continuous improvement. Data were collected through structured observations of seven indicators of environmental attitudes, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the Grophy Garbage project model—which combines visualization of ideas (Grophy) and exploration of used materials (Garbage)—into the Problem Based Learning (PBL) framework in PAUD. This approach is specifically tailored to the characteristics of early childhood, enabling creative expression and contextual learning based on real problems. Research consistently shows that the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) through "Grophy Garbage" effectively increases environmental awareness in children aged 4-5 years. Children become more enthusiastic and disciplined in disposing of waste, are able to distinguish between types of waste, and are actively involved in making recycled products from plastic bottles, which also improves their fine motor skills. All indicators of environmental awareness, from attention to cleanliness, participation in caring for plants, to collaboration and empathy, show positive developments. The main challenges faced include limited teacher resources and the need for ongoing digital literacy training, but the benefits significantly shape children's ecological character.

Abstract

The utilization of digital media in language learning for children with special needs aged 4-5 years at KB Aisyiyah Pracimantoro. The research objective is to determine how digital media can enhance the language abilities of children with special needs and to identify the challenges educators face in its implementation. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the Principal, educators, and parents, as well as 30 minutes of participatory observation in class using a structured observation guide that assessed seven ability indicators of children on a scale of 1-4. Data analysis techniques used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, interpretation, and conclusion. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and method triangulation. The research results show that digital media, particularly educational videos with songs and movements, as well as interactive educational applications, are effective in improving the language abilities of children with special needs by increasing focus, motivation, vocabulary acquisition, and articulation. Interview results confirm that children who previously had difficulty pronouncing simple words showed significant development after routinely using digital media. However, implementation faces challenges, including limited devices and internet connections, difficulty finding specific content, managing children’s behavior, and the need for continuous teacher training. The research concludes that digital media is a potential tool for language learning among children with special needs, but requires infrastructure support, relevant content development, and increased educator capacity for optimal use.

Abstract

One important aspect of learning English in kindergarten is vocabulary mastery, which plays a crucial role in children’s ability to communicate effectively and understand language. However, many children at Aisyiyah Kindergarten in Surakarta, which were observed through purposive sampling, still struggle with vocabulary acquisition. It was found that the learning media, primarily textbooks, focused mostly on activities such as coloring, thickening, and writing letters, without providing sufficient repetition exercises to reinforce vocabulary. This was identified as a significant factor contributing to the challenges children face in retaining vocabulary. The recent research objective was to explore the themes and vocabulary in the textbooks in Surakarta kindergartens. This study specifically sought to examine how well textbooks support the development of vocabulary mastery and whether the content is culturally appropriate and engaging for young learners. The research was conducted using an exploratory qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through document analysis of English textbooks used in Surakarta kindergartens, applying first-order and second-order understanding techniques to identify and categorize themes and vocabulary. The results revealed that the textbooks used in these kindergartens were thematic, with some themes aligning with the Ministry of National Education's guidelines. However, the vocabulary introduced was sometimes disconnected from the children’s everyday experiences and was occasionally culturally inappropriate. While some textbooks included a significant amount of vocabulary, the frequency of repetition exercises was insufficient, with some books lacking repetition altogether.
