Abstract

The data analysis method used is paired sample t-test to test the hypothesis of the average of two samples and to find out if there is a difference before and after the treatment is carried out. In the paired sample t-test test, if the sig. two-tailed value is 0.05> the sig. 2-tailed value means there is a difference, and if the sig. two-tailed value> 0.05 means there is no difference. 2-tailed value of 0.000 < 0.05 in the experimental class, and 0.031 > 0.05 in the control class, which means that there is a difference in the average decrease in student discrimination in the experimental class. The study population consisted of 150 students, and the sample was taken using purposive sampling. Data was collected by performing pre-tests and post-tests before and after the group counseling sessions using the client-centered approach. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with SPSS. The results showed that after the group counseling sessions, there was an increase in self-confidence among the students: 5 students experienced an increase in self-confidence to the high category, and three other students experienced an increase to the very high category. The data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed that the sig (2-tailed) value was less than 0.05, specifically 0.011, indicating that group counseling using the client-centered technique effectively enhances the self-confidence of students who experience body shaming.

Abstract

Academic stress is a common experience among university students and significantly affects their emotional and psychological well-being. Emotion regulation, the ability to manage and respond to emotional experiences, is critical in coping with academic-related stressors. This study examines the correlation between academic stress and emotion regulation strategies among undergraduate students. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 350 students at Universitas Terbuka through standardized instruments: the Academic Stress Scale (ASS) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), which measures cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. The results revealed a significant negative correlation between academic stress and cognitive reappraisal, and a significant positive correlation between academic stress and expressive suppression. These findings suggest that students who experience higher levels of academic stress are more likely to engage in maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. The study emphasizes the value of promoting adaptive emotional coping mechanisms to reduce stress and improve students’ academic and mental health outcomes.

Abstract

The Laman Minda Sihat program is a form of collaboration between Indonesian and Malaysian counselors in providing psychological support to students thru a horticultural therapy approach. This activity will be held at SK Bandar Puteri Jaya, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia on October 8, 2024, with the aim of improving students' psychological well-being thru activities that align with their interests and talents. This counselling service emphasizes a humanistic and reflective approach, where students are directly involved in planting their chosen plants as a form of therapy. The mentoring process is carried out in several stages, starting from observation, question-and-answer sessions with the counselor, plant selection, to self-reflection after the activity. This planting activity aims to help students express themselves, overcome negative emotions, and cultivate responsibility and self-confidence. The results of the activity show that using the Laman Minda Sihat website as a counselling medium is able to have a positive effect on students' behavioral changes, particularly in increasing learning motivation and reducing problematic behavior. This cross-country collaboration also strengthens the application of cross-cultural counselling principles and enriches counselling guidance practices in primary education settings. The horticultural therapy approach has proven effective in improving students' emotional, social, and psychological well-being thru a harmonious relationship with nature and the application of positive reinforcement in the counselling process.

Abstract

Academic resilience is one of the key elements of success for mathematics education students in facing academic challenges in higher education. This study aims to develop an Islamic Counseling Model using Bibliotherapy e-books to improve the academic resilience of Mathematics Education students. This research is a Developmental Study with a design according to Borg and Gall, which consists of three stages, namely the preliminary study stage, the model development stage, and the model testing stage. The research was conducted at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. Data collection was carried out using an academic resilience scale and an expert assessment scale. Data analysis was performed using quantitative descriptive analysis to describe the academic resilience of students in the preliminary study stage, followed by Miles and Huberman's qualitative descriptive analysis to describe the feasibility of the Islamic Counseling Model of Bibliotherapy using e-books, and finally, the U-Mann Whitney test was performed to determine the effectiveness of the model. The results showed that 52% of students' academic resilience in education was in the moderate to low category. The feasibility test of the Islamic Counseling Model using the Bibliotherapy Technique with e-books with several experts showed that it was feasible to use. Based on the U-Mann Whitney test results, a sig. value of 0.000 was obtained, so it was concluded that the Islamic Counseling Model using the Bibliotherapy Technique with e-books was effective in increasing the academic resilience of mathematics education students.

Abstract

Individuals with mild intellectual disability (MID) experience elevated rates of anxiety that adversely affect emotional well-being and social participation. Although Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is well-established for anxiety in the general population, evidence for its use with individuals with MID remains limited. This case series explored the feasibility and preliminary clinical outcomes of an adapted CBT intervention for anxiety in adolescents with MID. Four adolescents (aged 14 years) with clinically significant anxiety received seven sessions of CBT adapted through simplified language, visual supports, repetition, role-play, and caregiver involvement. Anxiety was assessed at pre-intervention, post-intervention, and follow-up using the Glasgow Anxiety Scale for People with an Intellectual Disability (GAS-ID). Individual change was evaluated using the Reliable Change Index (RCI). Qualitative data from participant worksheets and supporter interviews were analyzed thematically. All participants demonstrated reliable reductions in anxiety symptoms that were maintained at follow-up. Qualitative findings suggested improvements in emotional awareness, social participation, and coping skills. These findings indicate that adapted CBT may be feasible and potentially beneficial for adolescents with MID, warranting further evaluation in controlled studies.
