Abstract

The provision of clean water in Indonesia's coastal areas is a serious challenge considering the limited water resources that are vulnerable to seawater pollution and intrusion. Rugemuk Village, on Labu Beach, Deli Serdang, is one of the coastal areas that faces the problem of access to clean water. In this context, Rugemuk Mandiri Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) was established in 2017 to manage the supply of clean water effectively and sustainably. The purpose of this research is to analyze the role of Rugemuk Mandiri Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in providing clean water in Rugemuk Village, Labu Beach, Deli Serdang. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with interview techniques for the four main groups of respondents, namely the director of BUMDes, village heads, hamlet heads, and the community of Rugemuk Village with a total of 6 respondents. This study shows that BUMDes Rugemuk Mandiri has succeeded in providing clean water for the people of Rugemuk Village. BUMDes manages the distribution of clean water through a piping system by utilizing four drilled wells spread across four hamlets, affordable tariff management, and a meter-based payment system. There are still challenges related to clean water supply services from some communities, as well as the need to expand the reach of clean water services to housing that has not been connected to the clean water supply program. It is hoped that BUMDes will further improve water quality monitoring and expand the reach of clean water services by developing infrastructure. To increase the role of BUMDes in the provision of clean water, it is necessary to increase in routine water quality monitoring, encourage active community participation and expand the reach of clean water services.

Abstract

Garbage is one of the problems that occurs in the city of Medan. Based on 2021 National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) statistics, Medan City produces up to 2000 tons of waste per day, of which only around 30 tons can be processed, thereby increasing the burden on the environment. This data shows that the amount of waste produced has exceeded the daily projection in Medan City of 1,326.37 tons. Handling the remaining waste at the Final Processing Site (TPA) also adds to the complexity of this waste problem. The 5R waste management technique is an alternative waste management approach that involves community involvement. Objective: To find out the application of the 5R method in waste management on Jl. Starban, Medan Polonia. Method: Using a combination of practice and counseling, this research is descriptive qualitative in nature. The Accidental Sample approach was used in this research. This research was attended by 30 housewives as research subjects. Observations, surveys, and documentation are used to collect data. Research Results: It was found that before conducting counseling and joint practice with the community of Jl. Starban, Medan Polonia, the level of public knowledge is only 25%. After counseling and joint practice, the community has high self-awareness regarding waste management using the 5R method. This is proven by the results of the final questionnaire measuring the level of knowledge which reached 100% from 30 respondents. Suggestion: The community can participate in dealing with waste problems through waste management using the 5R method.

Abstract

Environmental sanitation of traditional markets is an important aspect in preventing the development of disease vectors such as flies. This study aims to analyze the level of knowledge of traders regarding environmental sanitation and observe the density of flies in Kampung Lalang Market, Medan City. The study was conducted with an analytical observational design through a cross-sectional approach to 96 trader respondents. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and direct observation using fly glue in three main locations of the market: temporary disposal sites (TPS), bathrooms/toilets, and fish trader areas. The results showed that the majority of traders (83%) had a good to very good level of knowledge regarding sanitation. However, observations showed that the highest fly density occurred in the TPS area, moderate in the fish trader area, and the lowest in the bathroom/toilets. These findings indicate that the high level of knowledge of traders has not been followed by adequate hygienic behavior practices and environmental management. Environments with high organic waste and poor waste management systems remain breeding grounds for flies. Therefore, an integrated approach is needed such as education on clean behavior, improvement of market sanitation infrastructure, and routine supervision to reduce the fly population and create a healthier market environment.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are complaints often experienced by workers who work in non-ergonomic conditions. The Kisaran Fantasi workshop is one of the car repair shops where workers bend, stoop, bend their wrists, and squat repeatedly when repairing cars for a long time. This causes workers to often feel pain in the back, calves, and numbness in the wrists. This study aims to determine the relationship between tenure and work posture with complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in mechanical workers at the Kisaran Fantasi car repair shop. The method in this study is descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The sample in this study used a total sampling technique of 55 workers. This research was conducted in January 2025. The analysis used in this study used univariate and bivariate tests and the chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between length of service (P-value = 0.048) and work posture (P-value = 0.005) with complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in the Fantasy Range workshop. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between length of service and work posture and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) complaints in the Fantasy Range workshop, all of which have a p-value > 0.05. Advice for workers to pay attention to posture while working, and advice for auto repair shop owners to provide additional assistance, such as wellness programs or referrals to medical specialists, for workers who are sick.
