Abstract

Beef demand in Indonesian people is supplied from the domestic and import production, including Australia and New Zealand. Domestic Resources Cost (DRC) is one of the indicators in free trade that is defined as one of the competitiveness criteria. The competitiveness is determined by several factors, including resource, labor, technology and market demand. Based on the previous research results, it was obtained that: (1) The availability of abundant feed through the grazing system and crops livestock system can provide comparative advantage (DRC = 0.08-0.54); (2) The type of beef cattle kept had a good competitiveness (DRC = 0.08-0.94); (3) The labor’s wage can simultaneously create competitiveness (DRC<1); (4) The technological factor on farm level showed that the higher Average Daily Gain (ADG) will make the competitiveness increased; and (5) The number of cattle had a positive causality on the competitiveness with a coefficient of 0.510. The smallholder farmer with the average farming scale of three heads per farmer had a lower competitiveness (DRC = 0.08) compared to the cattle fattening company (DRC = 0.01-0.02). The existing research showed that the beef cattle farming in several places in Indonesia had good competitiveness (DRC<1), but in some areas, its value was close to one (less competitive). Therefore, in order to improve the competitiveness, the formulation and implementation of the farm subsector policy should be regarded as a system including upstream to downstream subsystems so it is expected that the coordination and synergy policy among stakeholder and economic actor will be better. Key words: Beef cattle, competitiveness, domestic resources cost

Abstract

Flour is one of important crop commodity for Indonesian people. However, government interventions lead the formation of monopoli structure and capital accumulation. The purpose of the research is to analyze the structure, behavior and market performance of Indonesian flour industry. Structure-Conduct-Performance model is used to analyze the industry. The result shows that the industry structure is tight oligopoly where tight competition occurs among few big players. CR4 index is 76.3 percent and Hirchman-Herfindal Index is 3731.12. Price, as conduct indicator, is regulated by Flour Industry Association (Aptindo) with regards of international price and cost of transportation. Industry performance is inefficient or constable (either one or both) based on 10.75 PCM index. Government intervention is required to prevent market control by big players.

This research evaluates the influence of strategy implementation problems on strategy implementation success and firm performance. This survey was conducted in 60 Indonesian companies and the data were statistically analysed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM PLS). The results show significant influence of strategy implementation problems on the degree of successful strategy implementation and perceived firm performance. The seven major obstacles that have impact on poor strategy implementation are: problems related to corporate scorecard, key performance indicators, information technology, competence, performance appraisal, strategy management office, and financial support.

In accordance with government policies to accelerate infrastructure electricity development without ignoring its sustainability then electricity supply is currently focused on renewable energy development. One of renewable energy is geothermal. As the world’s third largest geothermal electricity producer, it is very unfortunate if that great potential from geothermal development and its utilization still not optimal. This article discusses how the sustainable geothermal energy development  in Indonesia. Geothermal energy development as one of the renewable energy becomes very important to be discussed related to fossil fuel reserves are finite, price fluctuations in energy which influenced by world economic and political situation and rising levels of greenhouse gas emission from fuel combustion.

Abstract

White tea is a new product in Indonesia’s tea industry. It is a product developed by Research Institute for Tea and Cinchona in order to revive Indonesia’s tea industry. White tea has uniqueness in its relatively high price and high market demand that not affected by its high price. The increasing number from Indonesia’s middle class income could also become white tea’s new potential consumer because they put quality and health first than the price. White tea’s high price and demand attract new players in this industry. The appearence of new competitors make this in-dustry more competitive. That’s why it’s necce-sary to find a way to win the compettion and to keep the domination in the white tea industry through strategic formulation. There were two steps in strategic formulation used to produce the strategies. The first is analyzing the com-pany environment using internal factor evalua-tion (IFE) and external factor evaluation (EFE). The second is using internal and exter-nal (IE) matrix and strength weakness oppor-tunity and threat (SWOT) analysis. IE matrix showed the position of company using infor-mation from IFE and EFE. SWOT analysis resulted strategies using information from the company’s strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat. IFE and EFE showed that the company has strong internal power and good respond to external factors. IE matrix showed that com-pany is in grow and build stage. IE matrix and SWOT analysis showed that the alternative strategies for the company are market pene-tration, market development, product develop-ment, forward integration, backward integ-ration, and side integration.
