Abstract

Degenerative diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and gout have developed and threaten the quality of life of the community, especially in rural areas. This community service aims to enhance awareness among the residents of Sungai Petai Village about the benefits of instant herbal medicine, infused water, and health education for early detection and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The method used is service learning with health counseling, demonstration of instant herbal medicine and infused water, and health checks (blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid), followed by a pretest and posttest to assess the improvement of health education, with a pretest and posttest to determine the improvement of knowledge. The results showed that the education significantly improved participants' understanding of diseases and health products, with a considerable and sizable overall increase in knowledge at the posttest (80.83). The health check also showed that some participants had health conditions that required further attention.

Abstract

Carrot extract (Daucus carota L.) contains various bioactive compounds, including vitamins A, B, and C, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, anthraquinones, saponins, diterpenes, steroids, beta-carotene, phenols, terpenoids, and minerals, all of which possess antioxidant properties. These compounds are known to help slow down the aging process. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal concentrations of gelling and alkalizing agents, assess their interactions, and evaluate the anti-aging effects of the most effective serum formulation. The formulation was optimized using the Box–Behnken design with two key factors: Carbopol 940 concentration (0.5–1%) and triethanolamine (0.5–1%). The effects on pH, adhesion, and spreadability were evaluated. The best formulation was achieved with 0.837% Carbopol 940 and 0.855% triethanolamine,  showing a pH error of 2.45%, adhesion error of 0.76%, and spreadability error of 1.01%, all within acceptable limits (errors < 10%). After four weeks of stability testing, the formulation remained stable, well-mixed, with a pH of 5.16, an adhesion time of 1.60 seconds, and spreadability of 6.73 cm, with no discomfort. The combination of Carbopol 940 and triethanolamine improved the physical properties, enhancing anti-aging effects compared to the base formula. The optimized serum increased skin moisture by 84.62%, reduced pore size by 64.71%, lightened spots by 62.79%, and reduced wrinkles by 67.50%. This indicates the optimized carrot extract serum is stable, safe, and effective as an anti-aging agent, making it a promising natural skincare product.

Abstract

Polypharmacy may increase the risk of drug interactions affecting toxicity and therapeutic efficacy in pneumonia patients. This study aimed to analyse evaluation of pneumonia management, polypharmacy, relationship between polypharmacy and occurrence of drug-drug interactions, and relationship between drug-drug interactions and length of hospital stay of pneumonia patients. The study design used a quantitative descriptive approach with cross-sectional and retrospective data collection and a total sample of 113 samples that met the criteria. Analyses were performed using Spearman's rho correlation test to assess the association of polypharmacy with drug interactions, and the association of drug interactions with length of hospital stay. Medication accuracy was measured using PDPI (The Indonesian Lung Doctors Assosiaciation) guidelines, drug interactions using drugs.com and/or Medscape.com. Results showed 59.29% of patients were female, with the majority aged over 65 (55.65%). Most patients (91.15%) paid with BPJS, 62.61% were hospitalised for 1-5 days and 81.74% had comorbidities. Treatment accuracy in this study was 49.56%. 106 drug interactions were identified in a total of 226 cases. 66% of the interactions were pharmacodynamic with moderate severity (79%), such as the interaction between combivent and ondansetron. Mild pharmacokinetic interactions were common, especially between ranitidine and paracetamol (22 cases). There is a correlation between polypharmacy and drug interactions with a p-value 0.000 and there is a correlation between the number of drug interactions and length of hospitalisation with p-value 0.000. Conclusion of this study is polypharmacy increases the risk of drug interactions and affects the length of hospital stay in pneumonia patients.

Abstract

Nanoteknologi telah membawa revolusi dalam pengembangan sediaan kosmetika topikal dengan fokus pada peningkatan efektivitas, stabilitas, dan keamanan produk perawatan kulit, seperti krim pelembap, tabir surya, dan krim anti-aging. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengulas secara mendalam mengenai formulasi nanogel dan nanoemulgel dalam industri kosmetika, dengan fokus pada manfaat, tantangan, serta masalah keamanan dan toksisitas terkait penggunaannya. Sebagai sistem penghantaran inovatif, nanogel dan nanoemulgel terbukti dapat meningkatkan bioavailabilitas bahan aktif, stabilitas kimia, serta efektivitas senyawa aktif dalam formulasi topikal. Kedua sistem ini juga memungkinkan pelepasan zat aktif secara terkontrol dan meningkatkan penetrasi kulit lebih baik dibandingkan dengan formulasi konvensional. Penggunaan nanoteknologi dalam kosmetika topikal juga berpotensi memberikan perlindungan lebih baik terhadap bahan aktif dari degradasi oksidatif dan fotokimia, yang seringkali mengurangi efektivitas produk perawatan kulit konvensional. Namun demikian, meskipun menawarkan banyak manfaat, masalah terkait keamanan dan toksisitas jangka panjang masih menjadi tantangan utama yang perlu diatasi dalam pengembangan produk kosmetika berbasis nanoteknologi. Oleh karena itu, penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai evaluasi keamanan serta dampak jangka panjang penggunaan nanoteknologi pada kulit sangat diperlukan untuk memastikan keselamatan penggunaannya. Secara keseluruhan, nanogel dan nanoemulgel memiliki potensi besar untuk menghasilkan produk kosmetika topikal yang lebih efektif, aman, stabil, dan inovatif yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan konsumen modern. Diharapkan, pengembangan lebih lanjut dalam aspek formulasi dan evaluasi produk ini akan mendukung terciptanya solusi perawatan kulit yang lebih unggul dan ramah lingkungan.

Abstract

Aloe vera atau tanaman lidah buaya merupakan salah satu bahan alam yang banyak dimanfaatkan dalam industri kosmetik karena kandungan senyawa bioaktifnya yang berpotensi meningkatkan hidrasi dan mendukung regenerasi kulit. Artikel review ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pemanfaatan Aloe vera sebagai bahan aktif kosmetik dalam sediaan liquid dan semisolid, khususnya gel, lotion, emulgel dan krim. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur pencarian dengan mesin pencarian basis data “PubMed, ScienceDirect, dan Google Scholar” terhadap artikel ilmiah yang dipublikasikan pada rentang tahun 2020–2025 sebagai artikel utama, dengan dukungan referensi tambahan hingga sepuluh tahun terakhir. Total sebanyak (n=15) artikel utama berhasil melewati proses sreening sesuai dengan kriteria yang ditetapkan pada review ini, kemudian keseluruhan artikel dianalisis berdasarkan jenis sediaan, parameter evaluasi fisikokimia, efektivitas hidrasi kulit, serta potensi regenerasi kulit. Hasil review menunjukkan bahwa sediaan gel Aloe vera merupakan bentuk yang paling dominan dan efektif, dengan pH yang sesuai dengan pH fisiologis kulit, stabil secara fisik, serta mampu meningkatkan kelembapan kulit dan menurunkan kehilangan air transepidermal. Selain itu, Aloe vera juga menunjukkan aktivitas biologis yang mendukung regenerasi kulit melalui efek antiinflamasi dan antioksidan. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Aloe vera memiliki potensi yang kuat sebagai bahan aktif kosmetik berbasis liquid dan semisolid dan layak dikembangkan lebih lanjut dalam formulasi kosmetik modern berbahan alam.

Abstract

Endometriosis is a common benign gynecological disease characterized by the ectopic growth of endometrial tissue. Its pathogenesis is influenced by complex genetic and epigenetic factors, making diagnosis and treatment challenging. This study aimed to identify molecular pathways and candidate genes associated with endometriosis using transcriptomic data. Three datasets (GSE7307, GSE23339, and GSE25628) were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). A total of 339 intersecting DEGs were obtained and subjected to Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses. The results indicated enrichment in biological processes related to epithelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis, cellular components associated with the lysosomal lumen and extracellular matrix, and molecular functions involving Wnt-activated receptor activity and low-density lipoprotein particle binding. Ten genes (TAGLN, C7, TCF21, GATA6, GPC3, FZD7, TCEAL2, KLF2, FMO1, and HOXC6) were identified as potential candidate biomarkers. These findings provide preliminary molecular insights into endometriosis and may support future experimental and clinical studies for biomarker development.

Abstract

Chronic constipation is a common gastrointestinal disorder that negatively affects quality of life and increases healthcare burden worldwide. Elobixibat, an ileal bile acid transporter inhibitor, has been introduced as a novel therapy to enhance intestinal fluid secretion and improve colonic motility in patients with chronic constipation. However, concerns remain regarding gastrointestinal adverse effects, particularly their potential relationship with dosage. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate gastrointestinal adverse effects associated with elobixibat and to assess whether these events demonstrate a dose-dependent pattern. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD420251155537). A literature search was conducted in PubMed and ScienceDirect to identify randomized controlled trials investigating elobixibat in chronic constipation patients published up to December 2025. Study eligibility was determined using the PICOS framework. Data on adverse effects, dosage, and treatment duration were extracted and analyzed using proportional meta-analysis with a random-effects model in R Studio, and risk of bias was assessed using the RoB2 tool. Five randomized controlled trials involving 922 participants are included in the analysis. The pooled proportion of diarrhea is 21%, abdominal distension is 26%, and abdominal pain is 16%, while unspecified gastrointestinal disorders represent the most frequently reported adverse events at 49%. Overall, gastrointestinal adverse events show a dose-dependent pattern, with higher doses associated with increased event rates. These findings indicate that elobixibat is associated with dose-dependent gastrointestinal adverse effects, highlighting the importance of individualized dosing and gradual titration to improve treatment tolerability.

Abstract

Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) merupakan standar praktik farmasi yang ditetapkan oleh International Pharmaceutical Federation (IPF) dan World Health Organization (WHO) untuk menjamin kualitas pelayanan kefarmasian. Implementasi GPP di berbagai negara menunjukkan tingkat kepatuhan yang bervariasi. Melakukan tinjauan sistematis terhadap implementasi GPP di apotek komunitas di berbagai negara, mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kepatuhan, serta peluang peningkatan kualitas pelayanan. Pencarian literatur dilakukan terhadap artikel yang dipublikasikan tahun 2015-2025. Sepuluh artikel yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dianalisis menggunakan metode literature review. Tingkat kepatuhan terhadap standar GPP bervariasi dari 11,7% hingga 65,09%. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kepatuhan meliputi kualifikasi tenaga farmasi, lokasi geografis apotek, dukungan regulasi, infrastruktur, dan sumber daya. Kategori dengan kepatuhan tertinggi adalah pengelolaan sediaan farmasi (66,1%-86,6%), sedangkan terendah adalah pelayanan farmasi klinik (11,02%-41,4%). Implementasi GPP di apotek komunitas masih suboptimal, terutama di negara berkembang. Diperlukan penguatan regulasi, peningkatan kompetensi tenaga farmasi, dan dukungan infrastruktur untuk meningkatkan kepatuhan terhadap standar GPP.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan bahan alam sebagai bahan aktif kosmetik semakin berkembang seiring meningkatnya tuntutan akan produk yang aman, efektif, dan berkelanjutan. Salah satu bahan alam yang banyak diteliti adalah ekstrak green tea (Camellia sinensis), yang mengandung senyawa bioaktif utama berupa polifenol dan katekin, khususnya epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), dengan aktivitas biologis yang cukup. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk meninjau secara kritis pemanfaatan ekstrak green tea dalam sediaan kosmetik dengan menitikberatkan pada mekanisme kerja, stabilitas formulasi, dan efektivitasnya berdasarkan bukti ilmiah yang tersedia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah literature review terhadap artikel ilmiah nasional dan internasional yang diperoleh melalui basis data Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, dan DOAJ. Total didapatkan 16 artikel yang menjadi artikel utama yang menjadi pembahasan dalam penelitian ini. Artikel yang dianalisis dipilih berdasarkan relevansi topik, kejelasan metodologi, serta keterkaitan dengan aplikasi kosmetik topikal. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak green tea memiliki mekanisme kerja utama sebagai antioksidan dan agen fotoprotektif yang berperan dalam menurunkan stres oksidatif, menghambat kerusakan sel kulit akibat radikal bebas, serta mendukung pencegahan penuaan dini. Dari aspek formulasi, ekstrak green tea banyak diaplikasikan dalam sediaan krim, gel, masker, dan tabir surya dengan karakteristik stabilitas fisik yang baik pada rentang pH fisiologis kulit. Efektivitas sediaan umumnya dipengaruhi oleh konsentrasi ekstrak, jenis basis, dan sistem penghantaran yang digunakan. Namun, sebagian besar penelitian masih terbatas pada uji in vitro dan evaluasi stabilitas sediaan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengoptimalkan formulasi sediaan lip tint berbasis ekstrak buah stroberi (Fragaria x ananassa) sebagai antioksidan alami melalui variasi konsentrasi Tween 80 dan propilen glikol. Optimasi dilakukan menggunakan perangkat lunak Design Expert versi 13 dengan metode Box-Behnken Design yang menghasilkan 17 formula. Evaluasi mencakup parameter pH, daya sebar, daya lekat, homogenitas, organoleptis, aktivitas antioksidan, uji stabilitas, serta uji iritasi. Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan ekstrak stroberi mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, fenolik, dan terpenoid, dengan nilai IC₅₀ sebesar 188,29 µg/mL yang tergolong antioksidan kategori sedang. Formula optimum diperoleh pada konsentrasi Tween 80 sebesar 8% dan propilen glikol 5%, dengan prediksi pH 5,64, daya lekat 0,67 detik, daya sebar 5,65 cm, serta nilai desirability 1,00. Hasil verifikasi menunjukkan kesesuaian dengan prediksi dan memenuhi persyaratan mutu sediaan lip tint, baik dari aspek fisik, stabilitas, maupun keamanan. Studi ini membuktikan bahwa ekstrak stroberi berpotensi sebagai pewarna alami sekaligus antioksidan dalam formulasi lip tint yang stabil dan aman digunakan. Kata Kunci: Lip Tint, Fragaria X Ananassa, Pewarna Alami, Antioksidan, Box- Behnken Design This study aimed to optimize the formulation of a lip tint preparation using strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) extract as a natural antioxidant by varying the concentrations of Tween 80 and propylene glycol. Optimization was carried out using Design Expert version 13 with the Box-Behnken Design method, resulting in 17 formulations. Evaluations were conducted on pH, spreadability, adhesion, homogeneity, organoleptic properties, antioxidant activity, stability, and irritation tests. Phytochemical screening revealed that strawberry extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, and terpenoids, with an IC₅₀ value of 188.29 µg/mL, classified as a moderate antioxidant. The optimum formula was obtained with 8% Tween 80 and 5% propylene glycol, predicting a pH of 5.64, adhesion of 0.67 seconds, spreadability of 5.65 cm, and a desirability value of 1.00. Verification results showed consistency with predictions and met the requirements of a lip tint preparation in terms of physical properties, stability, and safety. These findings demonstrate that strawberry extract has potential as a natural colorant and antioxidant in the formulation of stable and safe lip tint products.
