Abstract

Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) is a hydroponic plant cultivation method in which plant roots grow in a shallow, particulated nutrient layer that allows plants to obtain water, nutrients and oxygen. In order to maintain a stable condition, kasturi farm hydroponic farmers experience problems in controlling and monitoring the condition of their plants, without having to sacrifice other activities. This research was carried out through a series of processes, starting from analyzing the needs, designing, and testing the design in providing nutrition, temperature control and monitoring the humidity of rockwool foam based on ESP 32. The hardware used are TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Sensor, Ultrasonic Sensor, LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) Sensor, DHT 11 Sensor, Soil Sensor and DC Pump. The control used is ESP 32, and the application used is Blynk. The optimal control system in maintaining nutrients is 560 to 660 ppm and otherwise experiences a significant change of 1185 ppm. optimal temperature control with the highest temperature of 29.20 ˚C, and not using control will be more unstable. Rockwool humidity experienced an ideal stable increase of 50% - 56%. The average height of lettuce from the test results is about 22.07 cm with an average weight of 119.805 g. Measurement of lettuce plants indicated variations in fresh weight and height, with 3 prominent plants. Abstract

PT. Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper Perawang is a company that prioritizes paper production. There is a crucial unit known as the lime kiln within the company. Issues occurring within this unit often disrupt the overall production process. Therefore, conducting reliability analysis on the instrumentation of this unit is highly important. This research utilizes the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method. The objective of this study is to determine which devices within the lime kiln are most vulnerable to problems by calculating the Risk Priority Number (RPN) for each component, evaluating the reliability level of these devices, and providing optimal maintenance schedule recommendations. The research findings indicate the sequence of RPN values for lime kiln instrumentation from highest to lowest as follows: temperature sensor 336, on-off valve 288, flow transmitter 252, control valve 245, proximity sensor 240, pressure gauge 216, sensor indication of motorized damper 210. Furthermore, the reliability values of each instrumentation did not meet the threshold set by the Indonesian Industry Standard (SII), which is 0.7. Therefore, it can be concluded that maintenance action is required for these instrumentation devices. Maintenance schedule recommendations for temperature sensor are 252 days, on-off valve 294 days, flow transmitter 293 days, control valve 251 days, proximity sensor 293 days, pressure gauge 352 days, and sensor indication of motorized damper 353 days. Keywords – Keandalan, Instrumentasi, Maintenance, Lime kiln, RCM.

Abstract

With the increasing global population growth, the demand for fishery products, including catfish, continues to rise. Catfish seed production plays a crucial role in the fisheries production chain, as this stage ensures the availability of high-quality fish seeds. However, fish farmers still face challenges in increasing aquaculture production, especially regarding inefficient manual feeding practices. This research aims to develop an automated catfish feeding system on a schedule at Fardu Farm using a combination of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. In this study, the researchers design and implement an automation system that enables scheduled feeding in catfish seedlings. The use of Outseal PLC connected to IoT allows for precise and efficient feeding control. This research conducts testing to verify the system's performance, including measuring the weight of the feed dispensed and testing feeding over specific time periods. The results of the study indicate that this automation system successfully provides timely feeding according to the established schedule. Additionally, manual control using the Blynk platform also yields good responsiveness. Thus, the developed system can enhance efficiency in feeding catfish seedlings at Fardu Farm. Keywords - Automation, Feeding, Catfish Breeding, PLC, IoT.

Abstract

Plant improvement through in vitro culture and genetic engineering is a significant aspect of breeding programs aimed at producing disease‐resistant cultivars of disease‐prone red chili (Capsicum annuum L.). However, the Capsicum genus is recalcitrant to genetic transformation and in vitro regeneration. Moreover, developing a universal transformation protocol is difficult due to its highly genotype‐dependent nature. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an Agrobacterium‐mediated in planta transformation method applicable to various red chili cultivars. Two open‐pollinated varieties, Tanjung 2 and Ciko, were subjected to transformation. The young seedlings were immersed in transformation medium containing Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain GV3101 harboring the binary vector pCAMBIA1301, which carries the β‐glucuronidase (GUS) gene. GUS histochemical analysis revealed that all the primary transformants of Tanjung 2 and Ciko were identified as chimeric. The average staining in the body of the seedlings was 88.63 + 26.33% in Tanjung 2, and 90.65 + 16.77% in the Ciko variety. More than 50% of the seedlings continued to express GUS in their shoot areas 10 days after Agrobacterium infection, indicating the possibility of transgene inheritance in the following generation. The in planta transformation approach is notably genotype independent, making it a promising standard transformation protocol for different red chili varieties.

Abstract

Background: Among the Spermonde Archipelago is strategically important and predominantly medieval islands is Bontosua Island. In order to preserve the health and vitality of the ecosystems, the local communities on this island actively participate in environmental conservation. With the help of this study, the bottom cover of the waters surrounding Bontosua Island, Pangkajene Regency, and the archipelago will be mapped, and the relationships between various types of bottom cover will be ascertained. Methods: From March to September of 2022, the study was carried out. Images from the Sentinel-2A satellite were obtained on July 29, 2021. Using the Lyzenga procedure and the values ki/kj = 0.876875437 and a = -0.280796034, water column adjustment was carried out. The Unsupervised Classification approach was used to classify the images, and the Rapid Reef Assessment (RRA) method was used to verify the bottom water cover in the field. Findings: With a total area of 69.42 hectares, the results revealed seven dominating objects: deep sea, sand, dead coral, dead coral with algae, and coral debris (11.17 ha), living coral (17.32 ha), broken coral (12.73 ha), sand (4.43 ha), seagrass (12.61 ha), and dead coral with algae (11.16 ha). Conclusion: In the waters surrounding Bontosua Island, live coral constituted the greatest portion of the bottom cover, accounting for 25% of the total, while sand made up the least amount, just 6%. Novelty/Originality of this Study: The study on Bontosua Island's water bottom cover is novel due to its use of Sentinel-2A satellite imagery combined with the Lyzenga procedure and Unsupervised Classification approach, offering high-resolution mapping of underwater ecosystems. Additionally, the study's comprehensive classification and verification process through RRA provides detailed insights into the distribution and health of various bottom cover types, contributing to enhanced environmental conservation efforts in the Spermonde Archipelago.
