Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of Physical Education learning modified with volleyball games on learning motivation and basic movement skills of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 13 Makassar. The method used is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design, using Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 40 students divided into two groups, namely the experimental group that followed modified volleyball game learning and the control group that followed conventional learning. Data were collected through basic movement skills test instruments and learning motivation questionnaires. The results showed an increase in learning motivation in the experimental group from an average of 70.1 (pre-test) to 85.3 (post-test), while the control group only increased from 69.8 to 73.5. Basic movement skills also increased significantly in the experimental group, from 72.4 to 88.7, compared to the control group which only increased from 71.9 to 75.2. The paired t-test and independent t-test proved that the difference in learning motivation and basic movement skills between the two groups was significant at a significance level of 0.05. In conclusion, Physical Education learning modified with volleyball game is effective in increasing students’ learning motivation and basic movement skills. This learning model can be an innovative alternative in improving the quality of Physical Education learning in junior high schools

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation with athletic participation among students of MAN Insan Cendekia Gowa. The research employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The study population consists of students actively engaged in athletic activities, with a sample size of 35 students selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments include questionnaires to measure intrinsic and extrinsic motivation as well as athletic participation. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation test to determine the relationships between the variables studied. The results show a significant relationship between intrinsic motivation and athletic participation (N = 35, r = 0.297, p = 0.003) and between extrinsic motivation and athletic participation (N = 35, r = 0.307, p = 0.000). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation significantly contribute to the level of students' athletic participation. This study provides important implications for educational administrators and sports coaches to consider motivational aspects in enhancing students' athletic participation.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the game-based training approach in improving the underhand passing ability of adolescent volleyball athletes at the Syekh Yusuf Gowa Club. The method used is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design and a control and experimental group. The sample consisted of 20 athletes who were divided by purposive sampling into two groups, each consisting of 10 people. The experimental group underwent training with a game-based approach for 8 weeks, 3 times a week, while the control group used conventional training methods. The results showed that the experimental group experienced an average increase in underhand passing scores of 14.2 points, while the control group only increased by 5.2 points. The Paired Sample t-Test showed a significant increase in both groups (p <0.05), but the increase in the experimental group was significantly greater than the control group based on the Independent Sample t-Test (p <0.05). The normality and homogeneity tests of the data showed that the assumptions were met so that the statistical analysis was valid. This study concludes that the game-based training approach is effective in improving underhand passing skills in adolescent volleyball athletes and is recommended for use in athlete development.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the maximum oxygen volume level (VO2max) of female volleyball extracurricular members at State Vocational School 6 Makassar. A total of 30 participants aged between 15 and 18 years were selected using purposive sampling. The VO2max was measured using the multistage shuttle run test (Beep Test), complemented by anthropometric data collection including height and weight. The results showed that the average VO2max was 38.5 ± 4.2 ml/kg/min, indicating moderate cardiorespiratory fitness among the participants. Based on VO2max classification, 65% of the athletes were categorized as moderate, 20% as low, and 15% as high fitness levels. A significant positive correlation (r = 0.62, p < 0.01) was found between VO2max and weekly training frequency, suggesting that frequent training sessions improve aerobic capacity. However, no significant correlation was observed between VO2max and age or training duration (p > 0.05). These findings emphasize the importance of regular and consistent training to enhance aerobic fitness in adolescent female volleyball players. The study recommends the integration of aerobic conditioning programs into extracurricular training to further optimize performance. This research provides valuable baseline data for coaches and sports educators to develop effective training regimens tailored to young female volleyball athletes in vocational schools.

Abstract

This literature review examines recent research on volleyball skills-oriented physical education learning, focusing on methods, outcomes, and pedagogical innovations over the past decade. Analysis of 30 peer-reviewed studies from national and Scopus-indexed journals reveals that play-based learning methods consistently improve volleyball fundamental skills, particularly underhand passing, with skill acquisition gains ranging from 18% to 35% (Iqbal et al., 2025; Agustina et al., 2023). Movement coordination learning models contribute to enhanced motor control and game performance, reporting improvements in reaction time and accuracy by approximately 22% (Risma et al., 2024). Technological interventions such as e-books and visual imagery are validated as practical tools to increase skill proficiency and student engagement, showing up to 28% enhancement in learning outcomes (Endriani et al., 2022; Risma et al., 2024). Furthermore, pedagogical models including the Sport Education Model (SEM) and Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) positively impact both technical volleyball skills and socio-emotional learning, with noted increases in student motivation and life skills by 25% (Munar et al., 2025; Nascimento Junior et al., 2024). Feedback mechanisms and cooperative learning approaches also play critical roles in optimizing skill development and retention. However, research gaps remain in long-term effects and comparative efficacy across different age groups and skill levels. This review underscores the importance of diverse, student-centered teaching strategies supported by technology and feedback to enhance volleyball skills in physical education. Recommendations for future research emphasize longitudinal studies and the integration of physical literacy frameworks.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between strategic sports management and athlete performance enhancement through organisational effectiveness within the tennis program at the Faculty of Sports Science and Health (FIKK), Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). Amid growing expectations for competitive achievement in university-level sports, there is an urgent need to optimise performance through efficient management practices. Using a mixed-method approach involving surveys, interviews, document analysis, and performance metrics, this study evaluates how five key dimensions of strategic management—planning, leadership, coordination, monitoring, and resource allocation—affect athlete outcomes. Quantitative data were collected from 32 student-athletes and eight coaching staff using structured questionnaires and performance monitoring over 12 months. Qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews and analysis of institutional documents. The findings revealed that leadership (Mean = 4.20) and strategic planning (Mean = 4.12) were the most influential factors contributing to performance improvements. Coordination (Mean = 3.98) and monitoring (Mean = 4.05) showed moderate effectiveness, while resource allocation scored the lowest (Mean = 3.67), indicating existing logistical challenges. Statistical regression analysis demonstrated that organisational effectiveness significantly mediated the relationship between strategic management and athletic performance, accounting for 62.3% of the variance in athlete improvement outcomes (p < 0.01). Key performance indicators showed a 50% increase in match win rate, a 27% improvement in serve accuracy, an 8.4% gain in VO₂ max, and a 20.6% rise in athlete motivation scores throughout the study. This research provides empirical evidence that effective sports management strategies can drive meaningful enhancements in athlete performance when supported by well-structured organisational systems. It offers a replicable model for academic sports institutions aiming to balance education and elite performance. The study concludes with recommendations for refining resource allocation, fostering interdepartmental collaboration, and strengthening leadership pipelines in sports programs.
