Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, with an emphasis on personalized learning across K–12, higher education, and online learning, and evaluates both its benefits and implementation challenges. Methodology: The research uses a qualitative literature-based synthesis of empirical and conceptual studies on AI-enabled personalized learning. Evidence is compared across education levels and learning domains to identify (1) observed learning impacts (e.g., engagement and achievement) and (2) recurring adoption barriers (e.g., infrastructure readiness, equity, and governance). Results: The findings indicate that AI-supported personalized learning can improve learner engagement and motivation by delivering adaptive content and feedback. Reported outcomes include performance gains in adaptive learning implementations, such as an increase in average scores from 68.4 to 82.7. However, implementation obstacles remain substantial, including limited infrastructure, unequal access, insufficient educator training, data privacy risks, and institutional resistance to change. Several studies also highlight unintended effects such as learner over-reliance on technology and reduced teacher–student social interaction. Applications/Originality/Value: This study consolidates cross-level evidence on where AI personalization is most effective and where it is most fragile. It provides practical implications for policymakers and institutions: invest in infrastructure, deliver sustained teacher training, and enforce strict data protection governance to enable responsible adoption. The study argues for a balanced integration model that leverages AI’s adaptivity while preserving human-centered educational values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the various strategic roles of school principals in the context of Islamic schools, especially in improving the quality of educator performance and strengthening educational governance based on Islamic values. The method used in this study is a literature review, by examining various recent scientific journals in the period 2019–2024. The results of the study show that school principals have various important roles, namely as managers, innovators, communicators, academic supervisors, motivators, and role models. In their role as managers, school principals are responsible for teacher development planning, monitoring, and periodic evaluation of educator performance. As innovators, school principals encourage teachers to innovate in learning and be adaptive to new technologies and methods. The role of communicator is also important, where the principal is expected to build effective and assertive communication with teachers in order to foster trust and loyalty. In terms of academic supervision, the principal functions as a mentor in implementing effective and reflective learning. Internal challenges such as limited funds and teacher motivation, as well as the influence of foundation management, are obstacles that need to be overcome with collaborative solutions and strengthening synergy between the principal, teachers, and the foundation. Meanwhile, external challenges in the form of competition with public schools and the globalization of education require adaptive and innovative strategies. This study recommends the use of technology, the formation of a professional network of Islamic teachers, and reward and punishment-based evaluation as strategic approaches in improving the quality of Islamic education. With visionary and value-based leadership, the principal plays a central role in making Islamic schools superior and competitive institutions.

Abstract

Corruption challenges require anti-corruption education that cultivates integrity rather than merely promoting legal compliance. This study developed and evaluated an Islamic Business Ethics Education Module grounded in akhlāq al-muʿāmalah to strengthen integrity among mahasantri. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach guided by the ADDIE model with an embedded mixed-method design, the study comprised needs analysis, module development, expert validation, revision, implementation, and evaluation. The module was validated by nine experts and implemented with 48 students at Pondok Hajjah Nuriyah Shabran, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Quantitative data were analyzed using Aiken’s V, descriptive statistics, and independent-samples t-tests, while qualitative data from interviews, observations, focus group discussions, and reflective journals were examined through thematic analysis. The findings indicate high content validity and significant improvements in students’ integrity awareness and ethical reasoning. More importantly, experiential learning enabled students to reinterpret fiqh al-muʿāmalah as a practical framework for accountability, transparency, and trustworthiness. The study proposes an Akhlāq al-Muʿāmalah-Based Integrity Education Model integrating Islamic jurisprudence, experiential learning, reflective moral reasoning, and critical consciousness to strengthen anti-corruption education in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competence of teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah in PCM Kartasura through socialization and training on the Teacher Driver program and Deep Learning approach. The main objectives of this program are to ensure that teachers gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to the concepts of Teacher Driver and Deep Learning. It is expected that teachers will apply innovative teaching approaches and improve the quality of education at Muhammadiyah schools. This program also seeks to strengthen educational leadership at the school level, given the limited access to Teacher Driver training for private schools and the lack of understanding about Deep Learning in the PCM Kartasura area. This initiative is driven by the importance of the Teacher Driver program in creating learning leaders capable of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum and addressing challenges in education quality. The program is implemented in several phases, starting with socialization and training, followed by teachers formulating action plans, which are then implemented at their respective schools. After implementation, monitoring and evaluation are conducted to assess the program's effectiveness. The outcomes of this program are expected to improve teachers' competence, values, and attitudes in managing learning and supporting educational innovation at Muhammadiyah schools in PCM Kartasura. The results will be documented in an evaluation report and scientific publications, contributing to the development of education in the region.
