For that purposes, 61 samples of household were selected from farming households in Ciburuy Village, Bogor Regency. Data collected was landholding, working capital, cooperation, education, purposes of practicing on organic farming, waste management, knowledge of organic farming, organic rice productivity, income, food consumption and level of household food security. Food recall 1 X 24 hours and food frequency (weekly, monthly, and yearly) were used to obtain food consumption data. Household food security was determined based on level of energy consumption. Landholding that supporting household food security was determined based on rice consumption and household productivity. The analyses results of household food security showed that 85.2% of households were secure and 14.8% were insecure. Variables that significantly influenced household food security were income, knowledge of organic farming, organic rice productivity, purposes of practicing on organic farming, landholding, and waste management. Pearson correlation analyses showed that income, knowledge of organic farming, organic rice productivity, and landholding had significant effect toward  household food security. Spearman correlation analyses showed that purposes of practicing on organic farming and waste management had significant association with household food security too.  Based on daily average of energy sufficiency, land-man ratio should be 318 m2/person.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to complete the information of household measurement from varies food groups in Household Measurement List (DURT). This research conducted on November 2005 – May 2006 in West Java (Bogor and Sukabumi), Central Java (Purwokerto) and Jakarta. The foods were chosen from the market with simple random sampling. There were 354 foods weighed 5 times for each food.Only 270 foods listed in Food Composition List (DKBM) that had household measurement conversion and 354 foods had not. The household measurement conversion values from some foods were consistent but the others were not consistent. It implied that the larger the physical measurement (length, width, height and thickness), the heavier the food. The inconsistency from the measurements implied that the changes of any physical measurement were not followed by the changes of weight and volume.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to: 1) determine poverty line gold standard of farmers, 2) compare the gold standard with existing poverty line i.e. Sajogyo, Central Bureau of Statistics, BKKBN, World Bank US $ 1 and World Bank US $ 2, and 3) derive poverty indicators. This research was conducted in Subang, West Java. As many as 522 farmer households were collected as sample through stratified random sampling with proportional allocation. Data collected include socio-economic, income, expenditure, food consumption, health, anthropometry, agriculture aspects and living cost component and their prices. The Gold Standard was obtained through distribution standard normal while poverty indicator was derived through discriminant analysis. The results show that the poverty line gold standard of farmer is Rp. 457,558/capita/month which is equivalent to 2.29 gram of gold/capita/month. Discriminant analysis give five indicators of poverty namely, number of households member, husband education level, nutritional status of children, frequency of egg consumption, and land size manage by farmers.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the potential resources and management of fisheries during the periods of 2003–2007 at the coastal zone of West Lampung. Primary and secondary data was analyzed using SWOT. SWOT analysis is a technique used to identify various factors systematically in order to formulate a management strategy.  The result showed that the total score for internal factor (strengths-weaknesses) was 0.23 and the total score for external factor was -0.32 (opportunities-threats); which placed the fisheries management at the coastal zone of West Lampung regency in the second quadrant position. The priority of alternative strategy carried out for optimum and sustainable fisheries management was to develop aquaculture (fresh water and estuary), to resolve conflicts of interest on natural resources used at the coastal zone of West Lampung, and to improve the involvement of formal and non formal institutions in implementing environment friendly efforts as well as in resolving environmental degradation problems.

Abstract

The objectives of this action research were: (1) to assess nutritional status of children under five years under five years under five yaers, and (2) to evaluate the effects of nutrition education and home gardening to nutritional status of children under five years under five years. The research was carried out in two sub-districts of Bogor: Sub-District of Ciomas and Sub-District of Darmaga. This research started with a preliminary study as the first step and experimental design as the second step.  As many as 16 posyandu  that met research requirements were obtained. A total number of 240 mothers had been divided into kontrol and intervention groups.Collected data included the data of household, children under five years under five years and mothers. Baseline data were collected during the pre-study, while endline data were collected after conducting intervention (experiment). The experiment had been conducted for five months in the form of providing  nutrition education once intwo weeks and implementing home gardening. The data analysis included estimation of mean, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value and proportion. The estimation results were then presented in tables and diagrams.Based on the analysis of nutrition intake data, it appears that intervention of nutrition education and home gardening has given great impacts on macronutrient and micronutrient improvement. The impacts of this nutrition intake improvement are not only because of the availability of vegetable garden in their home, but also because of the allocation of the family resources that is aimed at buying nutritious food. This has proved that knowledge about giving appropriate food is a prerequisite to improve access and sufficient and nutritious food, which has become a basis to reduce any kind of malnutrition.

This energy and protein intake has surpassed the energy and protein sufficiency level (Recommended Dietary Allowances, RDA).  The energy and nutrient intake in Inner Baduy households shows that the household energy and protein daily intake per capita is 952 kcal and 17 g. This is far below the energy and protein sufficiency (Recommended Dietary Allowances, RDA).

Abstract

Overweight/obesity is a condition that has been proven to be interrelated with chronic inflammation and compromised immune system due to disregulation of adipocytokine. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of soy isoflavone on the markers of inflammation and immunity of overweight or obese teenagers. Eighteen overweight or obese teenagers, 9 boys and 9 girls each sex were randomized to one of three  intervention groups; 0 ml, 150 ml and 300 ml soy milk, equal to 0 g, 25 g and 50 mg isoflavone everyday for 30 days. The data collected were food consumption, plasma isoflavone concentration, plasma IL6 as indicator of inflammation, and lymphocyte and NK cell count as indicator of immunity. The study showed that nutrient intake of samples were still relatively low. The soy milk intervention significantly increased plasma isoflavone concentration, but not significantly had contribution to the plasma IL6 concentration and lymphocyte and NK cell count. Several kind of food consumed by samples had contribution to the plasma isoflavone concentration, and lymphocyte count. Based on the results, it was suggested that soy isoflavone intervention does not affect the inflammation status and immunity of overweight/obese teenagers.
