Abstract

In the digital era, communication technology enhances interaction quality across various sectors, including healthcare. Communication between doctors and patients can be improved through innovative digital media platforms. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding the effectiveness and implementation of digital media in doctor-patient interactions. This study aims to evaluate the impact of digital media platforms on doctor-patient communication and identify factors influencing the effectiveness of such communication. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach over six months, with inclusion criteria comprising doctors and patients actively using digital media. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling, involving 20 doctors and 50 patients. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify critical patterns and themes. The findings indicate that digital media usage enhances the accessibility and responsiveness of communication, enables real-time health monitoring, and increases patient satisfaction through more personal and interactive communication. Factors such as doctors' digital skills, patients' preferences, and institutional support play significant roles in communication effectiveness. Digital media also reduce communication errors and improve the efficiency of health information delivery. The implications of this study suggest that integrating digital technology in medical communication enhances interaction quality and accelerates digital transformation in the healthcare sector.

Abstract

Sexist humor has emerged as a controversial issue at the intersection of gender, communication, and traditional entertainment. While often dismissed as harmless amusement, such humor can reinforce gender stereotypes and normalize social bias, particularly in local performance contexts. This study explores audience interpretations of sexist humor in ‘Ludruk’, a traditional Indonesian theatre from known for comedy content that incorporates gendered themes. Adopting an Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. the research involves six participants who regularly attended Ludruk performances. Through in-depth interviews conducted in the local Javanese dialect, the study examined participants' interpretations, emotional responses, and the cultural and social context shaping their perspective. The findings indicate that participants generally view sexist humor as mere entertainment, rarely considering its broader societal implications. Male participants emphasize humor delivery and comedic timing, while female participants often rationalize their laughter as a means of social conformity, avoiding being perceived as overly critical. The immersive performance environment of Ludruk, combined with its improvisational and participatory nature, fosters social bonds among audience members and between performers and spectators. These cultural dynamics, deeply rooted in Javanese social norms and expectations of group harmony, contributed significantly to the acceptance and normalization of sexist content. This study highlights how humor operates within specific cultural contexts and how social laughter functions as a mechanism of social cohesion, even when problematic. It underscores the importance of critically examining traditional entertainment practices that may perpetuate gendered social norms under the guise of innocuous fun.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction of the ultra-processed food narrative ideology in the BBC News Indonesia public service announcement on YouTube Shorts titled "Does Ultra-Processed Food Increase Early Death?". The method used is Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, focusing on three layers of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth of verbal and visual signs in advertising. Data collection techniques were carried out thru content analysis of advertisements and semi-structured interviews to uncover audience interpretations. Data analysis techniques used Barthes' semiotic framework to deconstruct the latent meanings behind visual and verbal representations. The research findings indicate that advertising not only conveys factual information but also constructs stigma against individuals based on their dietary choices and emphasizes individual responsibility rather than systemic-structural factors in maintaining health. The implications of this research emphasize the need for health communication that is more inclusive of social determinants and does not solely blame individuals AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konstruksi ideologi narasi makanan ultra proses dalam iklan layanan masyarakat BBC News Indonesia di YouTube Shorts bertajuk "Apakah Makanan Ultra Proses Meningkatkan Kematian Dini?". Abstract

The high incidence of outbreaks of snack poisoning among elementary school students in 2024 reflects the impact of systemic problems in Indonesia's educational environment. Increasing students' knowledge at school is one of the important steps to empower them to choose safe and healthy snacks for consumption. The health literacy activity through snakes and ladders game at SDN Jatinangor aims to improve students' health literacy regarding the importance of choosing safe and healthy snacks. This game is a refinement of Literaga 1.0 which was previously tested and successfully increased students' knowledge of a clean and healthy lifestyle in 2023. The activity involved 35 Padjadjaran University students as facilitators and 89 Jatinangor Elementary School students. The method used was game-based learning, which integrates learning about healthy eating patterns in a game format. Evaluation results using pre-test and post-test showed a significant increase in student knowledge (t Stat = -22.38, P-value <0.05). These results indicate that the Literaga 2.0 educational game board is effective in increasing students' knowledge about safe and healthy snacks. In the future, further support from schools and families is needed to provide safe and healthy food/snack alternatives for school students.

This paper discovered several cultural elements, which are languages, fashion, and cuisine variations, that lead to the development of the international students learning process. In the first year, international students struggle with the cultural gap during their studies. However, they dealt with communication issues through several methods and strategies for an international student to adjust to local culture from the culture shock they experienced at the beginning of their academic journey.
