Abstract

The steady demand for chili pepper throughout the year encourages farmers to plant continuously without considering environmental factors, thereby reducing chili pepper production. This decline is caused by low soil fertility due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers. One environmentally friendly approach is the use of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) Thorny Bamboo Roots (Bambusa blumeana). This study aims to determine the effect of PGPR concentration and application interval, as well as their interaction, on the growth and yield of chili pepper plants. The study used a two-factor Randomized Block Design (RBD), namely concentration (K0: 0 ml/L, K1: 10 ml/L, K2: 20 ml/L, K3: 30 ml/L, K4: 40 ml/L) and time interval (I1: once every 7 days, I2: once every 14 days). The research data were analyzed using ANOVA and then continued with the BNT test. The results showed that the PGPR concentration had a significant effect on all parameters, namely plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number of flowers, number of fruits, and wet weight, while the time interval only had a significant effect on stem diameter, and the interaction between the two had no significant effect on all treatments. A concentration of 40 ml/L (K4) was the best concentration, with an average plant height of 63.66 cm, number of leaves of 23.66, stem diameter of 12.86 mm, number of flowers of 16.66, number of fruits of 17.16, and wet weight of 20.73 grams. The 14-day interval (I2) was the optimal interval for stem diameter, with an average of 4.58 mm. Keyword: Thorny bamboo, chili pepper, time interval, concentration, PGPR

Abstract

Minimnya kegiatan praktikum dan kurang lengkapnya materi pada buku kultur jaringan di perpustakaan serta tidak terintegrasikannya model pembelajaran yang dapat melatih keterampilan proses sains (KPS) di dalam buku-buku tersebut membuat rata-rata tingkat KPS mahasiswa Biologi di Universitas Negeri Medan tergolong sedang (49,26). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku ajar kultur jaringan berbasis Project Based Learning serta mengetahui tingkat keefektifan buku dalam meningkatkan KPS mahasiswa biologi pada materi kultur jaringan. Penelitian menggunakan model pengembangan 4D. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari ahli materi, ahli media dan desain, dosen kultur jaringan dan 47 orang mahasiswa. Instrumen yang digunakan: lembar studi dokumentasi, lembar wawancara, lembar angket analisis kebutuhan, lembar uji validasi, angket respon dosen dan mahasiswa serta tes KPS. Teknik pengumpulan data yang menggunakan studi dokumentasi, wawancara, kuesioner dan tes sedangkan teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan uji N-Gain. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa persentase kelayakan buku berdasarkan penilaian ahli materi 90,26% (sangat layak) dan ahli media desain 98,6% (sangat layak). Respon dosen memperoleh persentase sebesar 89,06% dengan kategori layak. Uji coba perorangan sebesar 91,66%, uji coba kelompok kecil sebesar 89,5% dan uji coba kelompok besar sebesar 90,21%. Ketiganya berada pada kategori sangat layak. Rata-rata N-Gain KPS mahasiswa memperoleh nilai 0,6 dan rata-rata N-Gain KPS per indikator memperoleh nilai 0,65, kedua angka tersebut berada pada kategori sedang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa  buku ajar berbasis PjBl cukup efektif dalam meningkatkan KPS biologi pada materi kultur jaringan di Universitas Negeri Medan.

Cattleya sp. is an ornamental orchid whose seeds lack of endosperm, making natural germination and propagation difficult. In vitro culture using Protocorm-Like Bodies (PLBs) offers an alternative for mass propagation. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of coconut water and activated charcoal on the in vitro regeneration of Cattleya sp. PLBs. A completely randomized design was employed with varying concentrations of coconut water (0, 5, and 10%) and activated charcoal (0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 g/L). Morphological parameters observed included time to shoot emergence, number of leaves, shoots, and roots, as well as shoot color. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. The results showed that coconut water significantly accelerated shoot emergence with 10% of coconut water producing the fastest response (12 days after treatment). Activated charcoal enhanced shoot and leaf formation with 0.3 g/L, producing the highest number of shoot and leaf. Root formation was optimal at lower charcoal concentrations. Overall, the combination of coconut water and activated charcoal significantly influenced PLBS growth and regeneration. These findings indicate that appropriate combinations of organic additives can optimize in vitro regeneration of Cattleya sp. and support efficient orchid propagation.

Abstract

This study aims to document the diversity and morphological traits of ornamental plants in Karo Regency and assess their potential for sustainable use. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, field surveys at Brastagi were conducted at 8 days, morphological observations, and semi-structured interviews with local communities and experts were held with 10 keys conducted. Sixteen ornamental species from 12 families were identified, including terrestrial and epiphytic orchids, ferns, and flowering plants such as Begonia laruei and Ixora javanica. These species are found at elevations of 920–1,000 meters within montane tropical rainforest habitats characterized by high humidity and limited light. Morphological adaptations indicate resilience to these specific conditions. Production data indicate the important economic role of ornamental plant cultivation in Karo Regency. Chrysanthemum, rose, and tuberose are the most widely cultivated species. This reflects their socioeconomic relevance. The integration of botanical and ethnobotanical data provides essential baseline information supporting biodiversity conservation and sustainable horticulture development. This research contributes valuable insights supporting conservation planning and community-based sustainable development in North Sumatra.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gaya belajar siswa serta hubungannya dengan hasil belajarbiologi siswa kelas XI MIA SMA Negeri 4 Medan. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas XI MIA SMANegeri 4 Medan yang terbagi atas 10 kelas dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 400 orang siswa. Sedangkan, sampelpenelitian diambil secara purposive sampling yang berjumlah sebanyak 80 orang siswa. Metode penelitian yangdigunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif, dengan kuesioner (angket) dan tes sebagai alat pengumpul datapenelitian. Dari hasil pengolahan data diketahui skor rata-rata gaya belajar sebesar 42,8 dan SD sebesar 3,44sedangkan, rata-rata hasil belajar sebesar 79,1 dan SD sebesar 6,36. Untuk uji homogenitas Fhitung < Ftabel (0,540< 1,447) Ho diterima maka data X dan Y termasuk homogen. Dari harga koefiesien korelasi diketahui rhitung >rtabel (2,237 > 0,220) sehingga data tersebut terdapat korelasi yang berarti dan positif antara gaya belajar denganhasil belajar siswa dan perhitungan indeks determinasi sebesar 48% terhadap pencapaian hasil belajar siswa. Untukpengujian hipotesis diperoleh t hitung > t tabel (9,89 > 1,67) pada taraf   0,05 maka data termasuk Haditerima sekaligus menolak Ho, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan antara gaya belajar terhadaphasil belajar biologi siswa kelas XI MIA SMA Negeri 4 Medan.Kata Kunci: Gaya Belajar, Hasil Belajar, Sistem Reproduksi Manusia
