Abstract

This research aimed at analyzing the translation quality and cultural adaptation aspects in a translated movie of "From the Ashes" (2024). Starring Alshaima Tayeb, Khayria Abu Laban, and Adwa Fahad, this movie depicted how Saudi Arabian women navigated social-cultural dimensions while dealing with surrounding conflicts. This movie was chosen due to its idiomatic expressions in Arabic dialogue, which were translated into Indonesian subtitles for Netflix. Employing a descriptive qualitative method and translation evaluation approach, this research revealed several translation inaccuracies related to the adaptation from Arabic to Indonesian. In terms of accuracy, the researcher found the inaccuracies in conveying the intended messages to the target language, resulting in a misunderstanding. Regarding acceptability, the researcher discovered a lack of naturalness in the transfer of the source text into the target language. This is evident in the use of inappropriate diction. Furthermore, the use of ineffective sentences hinders comprehension.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to reveal the ecology in the book of Al-Qiraah Al-Rashidah contained in the topic of flaura and fauna. The relationship between flora and fauna seems to be discussed in order to introduce ecology and the relationship between humans and nature and vice versa. Kitab Al-Qiraah al-Rasyidah is an Arabic learning module in some Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia so that this becomes important in order to strengthen ecological education to the younger generation. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with an ecological approach. Kitab Al-Qirâ'ah Al-Rashîdah juz 1 and 2 by Abdul Fattah is the primary source. This article finds that adaptation can be used in literary works considering that many terms contain cultural elements such as the word Al-Khasyab which is translated as ‘anjang-anjang bamboo’ which is adapted into Indonesian in the form of bamboo sticks stuck into the ground as a support for the vine. Adjusting the dialogue to the local cultural context can also instill moral values and enrich children's understanding of the role of fauna and fauna in the natural ecosystem. The design of website-based educational media can provide an understanding of texts that contain ecological knowledge according to technological developments. Abstract

Translation of food product labels has become very important along with the current export-import activities. However, the translation of product labels has become a language and cultural issue. Translators are one indicator of the occurrence of this issue. This study aims to identify translation techniques used on the product labels of one of the snack companies in Indonesia, PT Manohara Asri. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach by collecting data samples in the form of snack packaging, then producing description data in the form of written data related to translation techniques used by translators. The results of the study found that there were 7 translation techniques used, namely, literal techniques, transposition techniques, lending techniques, amplification techniques, description techniques, modulation techniques, and particulation techniques. Of the 48 data found in 7 product packaging, it shows that the literal translation technique is the most common technique found on the product label. This research can be used as reference and improvement material for PT Manohara Asri and can be a knowledge for the wider community.

Abstract

This study presents an in-depth analysis of the morphonosemantics process in Javanese onomatopoeia by applying the theoretical framework developed by Fitriana (2022) for Japanese mimetic language. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data on onomatopoeia and its derivatives were collected from a corpus of contemporary Javanese magazines. This analysis, which focuses on the interaction between form and meaning, reveals that Javanese systematically utilizes phonological transformations and morphological processes to encode gradations of meaning. The main findings show that phonological alternations, particularly shifts in vowel quality (e.g., from front-high vowels to back-low vowels), consistently correlate with augmentative changes in size, mass, and strength. Meanwhile, morphological processes such as infixation (e.g., the insertion -um-), reduplication, and prenasalization systematically intensify the duration, repetition, or strength of an action or state. This detailed analysis of over 483 onomatopoeic forms contributes to the documentation of a threatened language variety and enriches the understanding of iconicity in minority languages. The study highlights the systematic relationship between phonological changes and semantic shifts in Javanese onomatopoeia, demonstrating its cultural and linguistic significance.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the translation strategies and evaluate the translation quality of Mausū‘atu al-I‘jāzi al-‘Ilmī by Masturi Irham, particularly in the chapter discussing human creation. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis. The data were analyzed based on the translation strategies theory of Suryawinata and Hariyanto and Nababan’s translation quality model, which includes three aspects: accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The findings show that the most dominant strategy used is ḥadzf (34.17%), followed by ziyādah (31.15%), taqdīm wa ta’khīr (19.60%), and tabdīl (15.08%). In general, the translation quality is relatively good, with average scores of 2.84 for accuracy, 2.72 for acceptability, and 2.79 for readability. However, several mistranslations and sentence structure issues were found, which may affect the readers' comprehension. Thus, careful attention is needed when translating scientific and theological terms to preserve the original meaning. This study highlights the importance of mastering both Islamic and scientific knowledge in translating texts related to i‘jāz ‘ilmī.
