Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan prestasi dan kemandirian belajar mahasiswa setelah mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan reciprocal teaching dan cooperative learning. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Kimia FMIPA UNY yang menempuh mata kuliah Kimia Fisika II pada tahun akademik 2009/2010. Penelitian tindakan kelas dengan dua siklus ini meliputi langkah-langkah perencanaan, implementasi tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah mengikuti perkuliahan, terdapat 92,31% mahasiswa yang mencapai ketuntasan belajar secara individual. Kemandirian belajar mahasiswa juga meningkat. Mahasiswa menunjukkan tanggapan positif terhadap perkuliahan. Mahasiswa antusias mengikuti kuliah.Kata Kunci: cooperative learning, belajar mandiri, kimia fisika, reciprocal teachingIMPROVING STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT AND LEARNING INDEPENDENCE THROUGH RECIPROCAL TEACHING APPROACH AND COOPERATIVE LEARNINGAbstract: This action research was aimed at describing the students’ achievement and learning independence after joining the instruction using the reciprocal teaching approach and cooperative learning. The subjects were the students of the chemistry education department of FMIPA UNY taking the physics chemistry course II in the 2009/2010 academic year. The steps of this two-cycle action research included: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The findings showed that after joining the instruction, 92.31% of students had reached mastery learning individually. The students’ learning independence also improved. The students showed positive evaluation toward the instruction. The students were enthusiastic in joining the course.Keywords: cooperative learning, independent learning, physics chemistry, reciprocal teaching

Abstract

The objective of research were to synthesize polyurethane from  soybean oil, P EG400 and MDI,  to  determine  the  cross  linking,  and  to  learn  the  influence  of  incubation  times toward  degradability  of polyurethane.   Polyurethane   was  synthesized from  soybean  oil and oxydated soybean oil at room temperature followed  by curing for 10 hours at 70 DC,and  than  at  100 "c for 3 hours.  The synthesis  was  conducted  with  mass  compositionSBOI  OSBO  : P EG400  : MDI = 1 : 2  : 3.   Biodegradation   was  conducted  by usingmicroorganism   in  an  actived  sludge   of  malka  medium   at  37°C.    The  variation   of incubation  times were 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 days, respectively  with changes of media every 5 days.  Characterizations   of polyurethane   were functional   groups,  cross  linking, mass loss and biodegradability.  The oxydated soybean  oil has increased intensity of -OR functional   group,  hydroxyl  number,  density,  melting  and  boiling point,  otherwise  the refraction    index   has   decreased.    The   synthesized   polyurethane    has   characteristic absorption  of urethane functional  group and cross link. The increasing of incubation time can  decrease  biodegradability   of polyurethane.   The mass  loss    of polyurethane  from SBO-PEG400-MDI   has  the higher.  Biodegradation   can disappear  urethane  group  and decrease crystallinity  of polyurethane. Key words: biodegradation,  mass loss, crystallinity, polyurethane

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian yaitu menguji pengaruh penerapan model problem based learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains peserta didik SMA Negeri 1 Sleman pada materi larutan penyangga. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu, 63 peserta didik SMA Negeri 1 Sleman terbagi atas kelas eksperimen yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan model problem based learning dan kelas kontrol yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan model 5M (Mengamati, Menanya, Mengumpulkan Data, Mengasosiasi, dan Mengkomunikasikan). Kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains diukur dengan integrated assessment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai sig < 0,05 yaitu 0,000 < 0,05, dengan demikian terdapat pengaruh penerapan model problem based learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains peserta didik SMA Negeri 1 Sleman pada materi larutan penyangga.

Abstract

Penggunaan instrumen penilaian kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi diharapkan mampu mengembangkan kemampuan peserta didik untuk memecahkan masalah nyata serta memberikan peserta didik kesempatan agar mampu memikirkan, menerapkan dan berkolaborasi dengan sistematis melalui proses atau hasil yang sesuai dengan persyaratan kelulusan. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah menganalisis proses pembelajaran kimia, menjelaskan instrumen penilaian yang digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran kimia dan untuk mengetahui permasalahan yang dihadapi guru dalam melaksanakan penilaian kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah evaluasi deskriptif. Subjek evaluasi ini adalah guru kimia. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah lembar angket pertanyaan terbuka yang menggali tentang penerapan dan pemahaman guru mengenai instrumen penilaian HOTS. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya 40% guru di sekolah telah melakukan pengukuran kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi dikarenakan kurangnya pemahaman guru mengenai kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi, waktu pembuatan soal yang lama dan jumlah peserta didik yang banyak, sehingga perlu diadakan pengembang instrumen penilaian HOTS pada materi laju reaksi.

Abstract

The developing of biodegradable plastic is an alternative to overcome the problemon the abundance of plastic in environment. This research aims to 1) learn the productionprocess of biodegradable plastic from alginat, 2) learn the easy of biodegradation processfrom plastic material, 3) learn the influence of the length of biodegradation toward theweight loss of plastic from alginat, and 4) compare the degradability between LLDPE((Low Liniear Density Polyethylene) plastic and HDPE (High Density Polyethylene).Alginat was from the extraction of brown algae and Na2CO3 12% , then it was madeas gel by adding HCL 10%. The production process of biodegradable plastic was done byblending-tecnique (LLDPE dan HDPE) with alginat. The test of biodegradable plasticwas done by piling soil up for six days. The speed of weight loss of plastic was shown bythe percent of plastic weight loss.The quatitative analysis of alginat isolated from brown algae with concentration1;, 0.75; 0.5; 0.25 and 0.125% produces the viscosity 2.48; 2.05; 1.89; 1.71; dan 1.62poise, and also specific gravity of alginat 1.085; 1.081; 1.078; 1.083; and 1.078 g/ml. Thebiodegradation result of LLDPE, HDPE, LLDPE plus Alginat and HDPE plus Alginatfind the average of weight loss for three days are 9.03; 4.76; 0; and 16.86%, and for sixdays 0; 0.75; 9.45; and 6.08%. The biodegradable plastic with HDPE plus alginat isbiodegraded faster because of having short chain of ramification.Key words: brown algae, alginat, biodegradable

Abstract

The properties of polyurethane depend largely on building blocks, especially the kind of polyol. Not only pure synthetic compounds but also various natural substances such as saccharides (glucose, fructose, maltose, sucrose) and amylose can be used as possible resources of polyol in polyurethane synthesis. Those natural substances are natural polymeric materials having appropriate reactivity thank to its functional groups such as hydroxyl groups. Natural polymers having more than two hydroxyl groups per molecule can be used as polyols for polyurethane synthesis. In this study, the effect of addition of saccharide (glucose, maltose) and amylose in the synthesis polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) and methylene-4,4'-diphenyldiisocyanate (MDI) based polyurethane was studied by measuring the hydrogen bonding index (HBI) and the thermal properties. Characterization of functional groups in resultant polyurethane was analyzed by FTIR spectrophotometry, the thermal properties were conducted with Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). The addition of saccharide (glucose, maltose) and amylose on the synthesis polyurethane from polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) and methylene-4,4'-diphenyldiisocyanate (MDI) can increase the hydrogen bonding index and the glass transition temperature of polyurethane. In all case the increase of glucose unit in polyol can increase the hydrogen bonding index, the glass transition temperature, and the thermal stability of polyurethane.

Abstract

Thermophilic bacteria after the eruption of Merapi in 2010 have been isolated from the Gendol Atas river with dilution and enrichment methods. The purpose of this study was to conduct the selection of these bacteria as producers of cellulase enzymes. Selection was done by growing 348 bacterial isolates on selective media Mandels-CMC 0.5% using Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) as carbon source. Incubation was performed at 55 °C for 24 hours. The results showed 255 isolates (73.27%) were able to grow in Mandels medium-CMC 0.5%. Bacterial isolates were isolated by enrichment method (69.8%) were more able to grow on selective media compared with the dilution method (30.2%). The diameter of the three largest colonies were isolates D13a (2.44 cm); E135 (2.33 cm); and D110a (1.98 cm).

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menguji kualitas majalah kimia berdasarkan aspek kelayakan  materi, penyajian, bahasa dan gambar, dan (2) mengetahui perbedaan motivasi dan kreativitas peserta didik di kelas yang menggunakan majalah kimia (kelas eksperimen) dan di kelas yang tidak menggunakan majalah kimia (kelas kontrol) selama proses pembelajaran kimia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang dilakukan melalui tujuh tahap yaitu: penelitian pendahuluan; perumusan tujuan; perancangan format produk dan pembuatan instrumen penilaianmajalah kimia; penyusunan instrumen variabel (motivasi dan kreaivitas); penyusuanan draft majalah kimia; validasi oleh teman sejawat, ahli materi, ahli media dan pembelajaran, guru kimia; uji coba kelompok kecil, dan uji coba lapangan. Tahap uji coba lapangan menggunakan quasi exsperimentdengan rancangan non-equivalent control group design dan penelitian ini melibatkan kelas kontrol (n=29) dan kelas eksperimen (n=30) yang dipilih dengan teknik simple cluster random sampling dari tiga kelas yang ada di SMA N 1 Mlati. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu instrumen kualitas majalah kimia, lembar angket motivasi belajar, lembar observasi motivasi, lembar angketkreativitas peserta didik, dan lembar observasi kreativitas peserta didik, dan lembar respon siswa. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut.(1) Hasil penelitian sesuai dengan prosedur penelitian pengembangan. (2) Majalah kimia untuk aspek materi oleh temen sejawat dan guru kimia dinilai “sangat baik”, dan oleh ahli materi dan peserta didik dinilai “baik”. (3) Validasi majalah kimia dalam aspek kelayakan penyajian oleh teman sejawat dinilai “sangat baik”, sedangkan oleh ahli media danpembelajaran, guru-guru kimia, serta peserta didik dinilai “baik”. (4) Validasi dalam aspek kelayakan bahasa dan gambar oleh teman sejawat, ahli media dan pembelajaran, serta peserta didik dinilai “sangat baik”, sedangkan guru menilai “baik”. Majalah kimia memiliki kelayakan materi, kelayakan penyajian, dan kelayakan bahasa serta gambar yang baik sehingga majalah kimia layak digunakansebagai sumber belajar mandiri oleh peserta didik. Berdasarkan hasil uji lapangan yang dianalisis menggunakan uji Multivariate Analisis of Variance (MANOVA) disimpulkan bahwa motivasi dan kreativitas peserta didik secara simultan antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol tidak berbeda signifikan (Sig.= 0,058; p>0,05). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa majalah kimia belum mampu meningkatkan motivasi dan kreativitas  peserta didik secara simultan. Kata Kunci: majalah kimia, sumber belajar mandiri, motivasi, dan kreativit

Abstract

The study aims at developing the valid Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio visual learning media in order to improve the learning motivation and the critical thinking skills significantly and also at identifying the effectiveness level of the Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio visual learning media in improving the students’ learning motivation and critical thinking skills. Therefore, autoatically the nature of the study is research and development. During the conduct of the study, the data were gathered by using the random sampling technique. Then, the data gathering instruments that had been implemented were the media assessment questionnaire, the observation, the motivation questionnaire and the critical thinking skills test. The results of the study show that the Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio-visual learning media that has been developed by using the Borg & Gall model is considered valid. The students’ learning motivation has increased as having been confirmed by the fact that the students are more enthusiastic, more interested and happier in attending to the learning process. Furthermore, the results of the students’ critical thinking skills test in the experimental group show that 25 students have met the passing grade while the remaining 6 students have not met the passing grade. On the other hand, the results of the students’ critical thinking skills test in the control group show that 20 students have met the passing grade while the remaining 12 students have not met the passing grade. In other words, these findings show that the learning process through the use of the Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio-visual learning media is able to improve the students’ learning motivation and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

In this research, preparation of natural matrix from modified flea secretion (SKL) by the addition of adipic acid as matrix in biocomposites of ramie fiber have been carried out. This research was initiated by dissolving the chunks of flea secretion using ethanol with ratio 1:2 and heated at temperature 50oC. Flea secretion has modified by the addition of adipic acid in various concentration 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Viscometry technique with viscometer ostwald was used for characterizing intrinsic viscosityof natural matrix. The optimum value of intrinsic viscosity were reached at concentration 5% of adipic acid that has 77,08 mg/l viscosity. Biocomposites were made by mixing ramie fibers and natural matrix SKL which have been modified by the addition of adipic acid with optimum concentration at 60:40ratio of fibers: matrix. Biocomposites were evaluated for mechanical properties with ASTM D638 type IV standard. Biocomposite sampel was formed specimens and tested with tensile tester. Biocomposite from ramie fibers and natural matrix SKL modified by adipic acid has a tensile strength 15,14 MPa and elastic modulus was 1519,15 MPa.
