Abstract

Accurate short-term solar irradiance forecasting is essential for the efficient management and planning of power generation, especially for solar energy, which holds a major role in the Indonesian Government’s energy transition policy. A novel day-ahead solar irradiance forecasting is proposed using a stacked long short-term memory (LSTM) model to support the energy planning in the Java-Bali grid. The proposed model utilizes the first historical solar irradiance data of Java-Bali obtained from direct measurement to forecast the next day’s hourly irradiance. The results are compared with the methods of autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and recurrent neural network (RNN). This study revealed that the proposed model outperforms ARIMA and RNN, and regarded as a highly accurate forecast since root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and R2 are 25.56 W/m2, 7.27%, and 0.99, respectively. The stacked LSTM produces better forecasting in the dry season than in the wet season. The MAPE indicates that the LSTM's lowest accuracy for the dry season was 13.99%, which is categorized as a good forecast. The LSTM’s highest MAPE in the rainy season is 34.04%, which is categorized as a reasonable forecast. The proposed model shows its superiority and capability as a promising approach for short-term solar irradiance forecasting in Java-Bali.

Abstract

Brushless direct current (BLDC) motor speed performance is an essential component that must be considered in the electric vehicle drive system. This research aims to obtain the transfer function from the mathematical modeling of the BLDC motor and optimization of the BLDC motor so that a high transient response is received. The method used in this study is to identify system parameters and then model them using the structure of the autoregressive exogenous (ARX) polynomial model. Meanwhile, to get a high transient response performance, optimization is done with a hybrid intelligent controller. The experimental findings indicate that the optimization process utilizing the bat method yielded the most favorable transient response. The resulting values for the proportional gain (Kp), integral gain (Ki), and derivative gain (Kd) were determined to be 31.2685, 7.7375, and -1.1934, respectively. In the current investigation, the minimum frequency value is 6381934.619. Also determined are the transient response characteristics, which include a rise time of 0.289 seconds, a settling time of 10.9 seconds, an overshoot of 3.4%, and a peak time of 1.04 seconds. Furthermore, the closed-loop system demonstrates stable behavior in terms of stability.

Abstract

Photovoltaic thermal (PVT) collectors directly convert solar radiation into electrical and thermal energy. A PVT collector combines the functions of a PV panel and a flat plate solar collector. The development of PVT air collectors is a very promising research area. At present, PVT air collectors are used in solar drying and solar air heaters. On the basis of existing literature, most PVT air collectors were built by using monofacial PV modules. The bifacial PV modules had two active surfaces that could capture solar radiation with its front and rear surfaces. Additional sunlight absorption through both surfaces resulted in an enhanced electrical power generation compared with the conventional monofacial PV. Therefore, bifacial PVT was considered to be useful and attractive due to its potential of enhancing overall system performances, including energy and exergy efficiencies. Findings of this review indicated that PVT air collector with bifacial solar cell produced a larger amount of electrical energy, which was approximately 40% higher than a monofacial PVT. The energy and exergy efficiencies of PVT air collector with monofacial solar cells range from 27% to 94% and from 4% to 18%, respectively. For bifacial PVT, the energy and exergy efficiencies of PVT air collector range from 28% to 67% and from 8.2% to 8.4%, respectively.

Abstract

Solar energy is renewable and environment friendly and has been widely used in electricity generation and thermal energy through photovoltaic thermal (PVT) system. This system is beneficial in terms of maximum energy generation and cost of usage. The growing concern on energy sources and their usage has increased the significance and demand for PVT collectors. A PVT air collector consists of a PV panel and a thermal collector system. In PVT air collector, electricity and thermal energy are generated simultaneously. This review focuses on efficiency and energy modelling for PVT air collector with extended heat transfer area. Findings of this review indicated that PVT air collector with extended heat transfer area produced PVT efficiency higher than conventional PVT air collector. The thermal efficiency of PVT air collector for with and without extended heat transfer area are 21-83% and 12-70%, respectively, which the improvement of thermal efficiency is 15.7-42.8%.

Abstract

Solar energy is free, renewable and environment friendly and has been widely used in electricity generation and thermal energy through photovoltaic thermal (PVT) system. A PVT collector is a combination of a PV panel and a thermal collector in a single unit to simultaneously generate electricity and thermal energy. In this review, mathematical models for dual channel PVT air collectors is presented. This review presents various research and development, as well as heat transfer and thermal modelling of dual channel PVT air collectors. Moreover, various mathematical models that evaluate the performances base on energy and exergy analysis of dual channel PVT air collectors are presented. Energy balance is the basic concept in developing the mathematical models. Generally, steady-state one-dimensional linear first-order differential equations were reported for solution of mathematical model. Energy and exergy efficiencies of dual channel PVT air collectors were 22.5%–67% and 3.9%-58%, respectively.

The 3D hierarchical pore structure with tunnel-like pores is essential to the performance of porous activated carbon (AC) materials used in symmetric supercapacitors. This study aimed to effect of adding (0.3, 0.5, and 0.7) M KOH reagent and heat treatment on the formation of 3D porous, tunnel-like AC derived from yellow bamboo (YB) through N2-CO2 pyrolysis at 850 °C. The AC produced had a high concentration of nanopores, becoming a valuable storage medium with favorable physical-electrochemical properties. The results showed that 0.5-YBAC had the best physical and electrochemical properties, with a carbon purity, 89.16%, micro crystallinity of 7.374 Å, and excellent amorphous porosity. Furthermore, 3D hierarchical pore structure, enriched naturally occurring heteroatoms, dopant of oxygen (10.14%) and sulfur (0.10%). A maximum surface area of 421.99 m² g⁻¹, along with a dominant combination of micro-mesopores. The electrochemical performance test of the 0.5-YBAC electrode showed a Csp of 214 F g⁻¹, with Esp 24.7 Wh kg⁻¹ and Psp 19.2 W kg⁻¹. In conclusion, this study showed the potential of YB stems to enhance the development of supercapacitors, offering superior porosity characteristics for efficient energy storage applications.
