Abstract

There is much inconclusive and unclear literature on understanding the benefits of environmental, social, and economic for the sustainability standards compliance of smallholders. The study aims to build a simultaneous relationship of the sustainable standard in the context of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil toward the benefit of sustainable dimensions using the concept of sustainable development, incentive theory, and the concept of agricultural extension of 150 independent smallholders. The results prove that farmers' organization is the most significant, followed by management of environmental monitoring and sustainable business development. However, legal is insignificant because of thought of as a nice to have. There is limited involvement in practical communities’ instruments so agricultural extension becomes an effort to reconstruct thoughts and actions to promote sustainability, especially social sustainability. Most indicators of sustainable standards toward the benefit of sustainable dimensions indicators are poor, except for fire prevention and control which had a moderately positive effect on the conservation of biodiversity. Thus, an integrated approach to area-based risks management, local institutions with religious and traditional leaders, Community-Based-Fire-Management, conservation area buffer zone, public-private partnerships, enabling conditions to access finance, and resource distribution with budgets and geographic proximity can be an effort to encourage compliance with sustainable standards.

Abstract

The rice commodity has always been the main farming business in an area because this commodity is a producer of rice whose demand is always high for people's daily food needs. The need for a relatively high workforce and a long time in cultivating rice farming is a problem faced by farmers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences between the transplanting system (Tapin) and the direct seed planting system (Tabela) in terms of total productivity, production costs, number of workers and profits and find out how farmers perceive the transplanting system (Tapin) and the direct seed planting (Tabela). The method used is quantitative descriptive and uses the Paried Sample t-Test method and data is analyzed using SPSS. This study used 70 samples which were taken by purposive sampling because the respondents had already implemented both cropping systems. The results of this study show that the average profit of lowland rice farming in Kubu District, Kubu Raya Regency with the tabela system is Rp.14,945,744 while the tapin system is Rp.10,100,145 per planting season. Based on the different tests, there are significant differences between productivity, production costs, labor and profits. The perception of lowland rice farmers in Kubu District, Kubu Raya Regency, on the direct seed planting system was included in the high category with a total score of 58.8 and a percentage of 62.86%, while the transplanting system was included in the medium category with a total score of 40. 62 and with a percentage of 65.71%. This shows that the perception of lowland rice farmers in the direct seed planting system is better than the transplanting system.

Abstract

Stable and sustainable rice production contributes to the national economy through exports, an important trade commodity for several rice-producing countries. Improving the efficiency and output of the input elements used in rice cultivation is crucial since rice is a staple meal and plays a key role in local economies. This study seeks to identify the input elements that affect lowland rice farming productivity and the degree of allocative efficiency of those inputs. From July 2023 to September 2023, this study was carried out. Using the Accidental sampling method, which involves taking samples that are present or found while conducting research, 88 rice farmers with experience running lowland rice farms in Kuala Dua Village, Sungai Raya, and Kubu Raya were selected as respondents. Land size, labor, seeds, urea fertilizer, NPK fertilizer, Dolomite, pesticide, fungicide, and herbicide are the study variables that make up the production input elements (X9). Allocative efficiency is measured by the marginal product value (NPMXi) or input equal to input price (Pxi), and the data analysis technique employs the Cobb-Douglas analysis methodology with multiple linear regression analysis in SPSS 25.0. An examination of the data shows that the variables, land size, seeds, urea fertilizer, Dolomite, and pesticides all have a role in determining the yield of lowland rice. There is a lack of efficiency in the production elements of land size (X1), seeds (X3), urea fertilizer (X4), Dolomite (X6), and insecticide (X7), as well as labor (X2), NPK fertilizer (X5), fungicides (X8), and herbicides (X9).
