Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health plays a crucial role in supporting physical development, character building, and a healthy lifestyle. However, Islamic boarding school-based educational institutions still face challenges related to limited teaching competencies among physical education teachers, particularly those without formal physical education backgrounds. This condition impacts the quality of learning, resulting in unstructured and monotonous teaching that hinders the achievement of learning objectives. This community service program aims to improve the pedagogical and professional competencies of physical education teachers in Islamic boarding schools through module-based training and mentoring. The program was implemented through needs analysis, module development, workshops, teaching practice assistance, and evaluation. Participants included four physical education teachers and fifteen community service teachers from Islamic boarding school backgrounds. Results showed that the module-based training improved teachers' understanding of basic Physical Education, Sports, and Health concepts, as well as lesson planning skills and structured teaching practices. Participants responded positively, with a 100% satisfaction rate, and considered the module a practical teaching guide. These findings confirm that module-based training is effective and essential for improving the competency of physical education teachers in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Excessive use of digital devices among elementary school children is a worrying problem because it has the potential to interfere with learning motivation. This study aims to determine the effect of screen time on the learning motivation of sixth grade students. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational survey design. The research sample consisted of 32 students determined by random sampling technique. Data collection used a Likert scale questionnaire to measure screen time and learning motivation. Data analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation test and multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS version 25. The results showed that screen time had a significant negative effect on learning motivation. Weekday screen time was strongly negatively correlated with learning motivation (r = -0.81; p < 0.05), and weekend screen time showed an even stronger correlation (r = -0.86; p < 0.05). Regression tests revealed that every 1-hour increase in weekday screen time reduced learning motivation by 2.15 points, while weekend screen time reduced it by 3.08 points. Simultaneously, screen time contributed 79% to the variation in learning motivation. The conclusion of this study confirms that excessive screen time, especially on weekends, has a negative impact on the learning motivation of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop the Selin Activity learning method, determine its feasibility, and examine its effectiveness in improving the fundamental movement skills of Phase C elementary school students. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The participants were fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school students. The feasibility of the product was evaluated by physical education experts, motor development experts, and practicing physical education teachers using validation instruments. The effectiveness of the product was assessed using the MOBAK 5–6 instrument, which measures two domains: object movement and self movement. Data were analyzed descriptively and further examined using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and effect size analysis with SPSS version 25. The findings indicated that Selin Activity was successfully developed as a circuit-based learning method consisting of six movement activities. The validation results showed that the product was considered feasible for implementation, receiving scores of 74% from physical education experts, 78% from motor development experts, and 91% from practicing physical education teachers. The effectiveness test revealed a significant improvement in students’ fundamental movement skills following participation in the Selin Activity program, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the effect size values of 0.863 for the object movement domain and 0.856 for the self movement domain indicated a large effect on the improvement of students’ fundamental movement skills. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Selin Activity is a feasible and effective learning method for improving the fundamental movement skills of Phase C elementary school students. The method has the potential to serve as an alternative approach to physical education instruction by increasing students’ active engagement and supporting the development of movement competence more effectively. Abstract

Badminton instruction in higher education is commonly dominated by isolated technical drills, limiting students' ability to transfer acquired skills into authentic match situations that require tactical awareness and rapid decision-making. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a Virtual Reality (VR)-Based Badminton Simulating In-Game Scenarios learning model for improving university students' badminton performance. A Research and Development (R&D) approach employing the ADDIE instructional design model was adopted, comprising the phases of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The developed VR application was implemented with 24 undergraduate students enrolled in a badminton course using a one-group pre-test–post-test design. Data were collected through expert validation, badminton skill assessment, observation, and student response questionnaires. The normality of the data was examined using the Shapiro–Wilk test, while differences between pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results demonstrated statistically significant improvements in player performance (Z = –2.718, p = 0.007) and match-winning performance (Z = –3.051, p = 0.002) following the VR intervention. These findings indicate that the developed learning model effectively enhances badminton performance by providing immersive and representative learning environments that integrate technical execution, tactical awareness, perception–action coupling, and contextual decision-making. This study contributes to technology-enhanced sport education by proposing an innovative VR-based instructional model that extends conventional badminton learning beyond isolated technical practice toward authentic game-based learning experiences.
