Abstract

This research was conducted in February to March 2017 in Dumai River estuary of Riau Province, with the aim to find out if there is any differences the total organic matter content and the abundance of phytoplankton between stations, and the relationship between total organic matter with the abundance of phytoplankton. The method used is a survey method consisting of 4 stations with 3 replications at each station. Based on the results, the highest average total organic content was found in Station 1 (24,01 mg/L) and lowest was at Station 3 (7,37 mg/L). There is a difference of total organic matter content between stations. There are 8 types of phytoplankton that found on the surface waters of the Dumai River estuary, where the most dominant type is Isthmia sp. The highest abundance of phytoplankton was found at Station 4 (4443,98 ind/L), and the lowest was at Station 2 (1367,41 ind/L). There was no difference in abundance of phytoplankton between stations. The relationship of total organic matter content with phytoplankton abundance shows a moderate negative relationship, which means that the increasing of total organic matter content will decrease the abundance of phytoplankton in the waters of Dumai River estuary. Keywords: Dumai River Estuary, Abudance of Phytoplankton, Total Organic Matter

Abstract

Increased concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere caused the increasing average temperature of the earth globally (global warming) that triggered the climate change. Seagrass is one of the marine resources that considerably potential as a sequester of CO2 (blue carbon) in an effort to mitigate global warming. Trikora beach has seagrass community is composed by different types, one of them is Enhalus acoroides which has an important role as a carbon sink. This study was conducted in May 2016 in Trikora Beach, Bintan, which aims to determine differences of density, the percentage of seagrass coverage and differences in biomass based on a seagrass tissue at the above ground (leaves) and below ground (rhizomes and roots) each the station and the relationship between the density towards seagrass biomass. Data obtained using quadrat transect method at 18 points sampling. The results showed that the density of seagrass in the study sites was high, the density of seagrass in Station 2 was higher than Station 1. Reviewed by percentage of seagrass coverage status was classified as poor and the category of moderately with the higher percentage of seagrass coverage in Station 2 than Station 1. The largest value of biomass was found on rhizomes and roots of seagrass at both stations. Abstract

Abstract N. lineata lives in tropical intertidal areas such as rocky shores, mud and also in mangrove trees while L. melanostoma lives in high ranges of areas in mangrove such as stems and leaves. This research was carried out on May 2018 in Sungai Sembilan District, Dumai City, Riau Province. This study aims to determine the morphometrics of N. lineata and L. melanostoma, the density of mangroves, and the relationships of density of mangroves with N. lineata and L. melanostoma populations in industrial and non-industrial areas. The sampling was done by using line transect method, carried out at 2 stations, station I in the industrial area and station II in the non-industrial area. The results showed that the highest length, width and weight of N. lineata and L. melanostoma were found in non-industrial areas. Simple linear regression analisis between length and wide of N. lineata and L. melanostoma are negative allometrics. The density of mangrove at industrial areas (1255.54 ind/ha) was higher than in non-industrial areas (1033.33 ind/ha). A weak relationship between mangrove density with N. Lineata density in the industrial area was observed (r=0.12), while in the non-industrial area has a moderate relationship (r=0.48). Meanwhile the density of mangroves with L. melanostoma density in industrial areas showed a very weak relationship (r=0.12) and conversely in non-industrial areas showed a strong relationship (r= 0.55).  Keywords: Morphometric, Nerita Lineata, Littoraria melanostoma, Mangrove
