Abstract

Al-Baqarah:143.

Abstract

This article examines the distinction between revelation (waḥy), divine speech (kalām ilāhī), and risālah in the perspective of Manna al-Qattan, highlighting the problem of fragmented readings in Qur’anic studies. The separation of these three concepts often produces epistemological bias, leading to the reduction of the Qur’an’s authority. This study aims to reconstruct the structural relationship between revelation as a communicative mechanism, divine speech as the substance of truth, and risālah as its social manifestation within an integrated framework. This research employs a library-based method with a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on classical and contemporary sources, with particular focus on Mabāḥith fī ‘Ulūm al-Qur’ān. The findings reveal that al-Qattan bridges revelation and divine speech through the concept of tanzīl, understood as the process by which transcendent divine speech becomes communicative revelation. The study argues that revelation, divine speech, and risālah form an inseparable system that cannot be adequately understood in isolation. Accordingly, the Qur’an is positioned as the concrete manifestation of divine speech with supreme authority. The contribution of this research lies in reconstructing an integrative conceptual framework within Qur’anic studies while challenging the prevailing fragmentary approaches that obscure the fundamental relationship between these key concepts.

Abstract

The study aims to explain the stages of the Qur’anic revelation, the parties involved at each stage, and the forms and mechanisms of its transmission. It also clarifies the meaning of sabʿatu aḥrūf and its difference from qirā’ah sab’ah. This research uses a qualitative library method. The findings show that most scholars hold that the Qur’an was revealed all at once from Lauḥ al-Maḥfūẓ to Bait al-‘Izzah on the night of Lailatul Qadr, then revealed gradually to the Messenger over about twenty-three years. The involvement of the angel Jibril in the first stage is not supported by definitive evidence, so this stage is attributed directly to Allah. Jibril’s role is firmly established in conveying revelation to the Messenger. Revelation occurred through true dreams and angelic mediation. Sabʿatu aḥrūf refers to seven Arabic varieties conveying one meaning and differs from qirā’ah sab’ah, which emerged after the Prophet’s death previously

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of al-jinās in al-Tafsīr al-Bayān li al-Qur’ān al-Karīm by Bint al-Syāṭi’ and to explain its function in the construction of the meaning of Qur’anic verses. Studies of al-jinās have generally focused on its classification and rhetorical beauty, while its role in the process of interpretation has received relatively little anttantion. This is a literature review using a qualitative approach. Primary data is sourced from Al-Tafsīr al-Bayān li al-Qur’ān al-Karīm by Bint al-Syāṭi’, while secondary data is obtained from Bint al-Syāṭi’s works, balagha literature, and relevant previous studies. Analysis was conducted through the identification of al-jinās forms, the classification of their types, and an examination of Bint al-Syāṭi’s interpretation of verses containing al-jinās. The research findings indicate that Bint al-Syāṭi’ does not view al-jinās as an independent aesthetic phenomenon, but rather as a linguistic device that reveals the semantic relationship between words within a verse. Sound similarity in al-jinās functions as an interpretive cue that directs the reading toward semantic relationship, whether in the form of emphasis or interconnections between ideads. This finding indicates a close connection between the phonological and semantic aspects in Bint al-Syāṭi’s adabī exegesis and confirms that al-jinās contributes to the formation of meaning in the Qur’an

Abstract

This study examines uslūb nidā’ (the rhetorical vocative style) in the Qur`an, addressing two research questions: (1) what are the linguistic structural forms of uslūb nidā’ in the Qur`an, and (2) what are the rhetorical functions of uslūb nidā’ from the perspectives of balāghah and Qur`anic exegesis? The study adopts a qualitative approach through library research. Seven verses were purposively selected from a total of 527 nidā’ verses in the Qur`an based on three criteria: representativeness of nidā’ particles, variety of munādā (addressees), and diversity of rhetorical functions. Primary data were drawn from Qur`anic verses and major exegetical works, including al-Tahrīr wa al-Tanwīr, Rūh al-Ma'ānī, and al-Kasysyāf, and were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method informed by balāghah and tafsīr frameworks. The findings reveal that the Qur`an consistently employs يَا and يَا أَيُّهَا as its primary vocative particles across varied structural patterns, including nidā’-amr-khabar, nidā’-amr-nahy, nidā’-khabar, and istifhām-nidā’-khabar. The rhetorical functions identified include tanbīh (attention-drawing), takrīm (dignification), talattuf (tenderness), takhwīf (instilling awe), ta'kīd (emphasis), and taqrīr wa ilzām (argumentative assertion). A comparative analysis further reveals that Meccan nidā’ tends to serve functions of takhwīf and barā'ah, whereas Medinan nidā’ is predominantly characterized by takrīm and normative tanbīh. These findings indicate that uslūb nidā’ constitutes a structured and contextually sensitive rhetorical system rather than a mere grammatical device, with practical implications for Arabic language pedagogy, exegetical methodology, and Islamic preaching discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the variation of meanings and semantic relations of the hudā in the Qur’an through the al-wujūh wa al-naẓā’ir approach. The research employs a qualitative library research method using Qur’anic verses containing derivations of the root h-d-y as the primary data source. The data were analyzed using a contextual semantic approach by examining syntactic structures, verse contexts, subjects giving guidance, and objects receiving guidance. The findings reveal that hudā carries various meanings, including the Qur’an, faith, Islam, divine guidance (tawfīq), and prophets or messengers as guides for humanity. Furthermore, hudā demonstrates semantic relations with terms such as īmān, taqwā, ṣirāṭ, and ḍalāl, forming a semantic field within the Qur’anic conceptual system. These findings indicate that the concept of guidance in the Qur’an is relational, dynamic, and contextual, demonstrating the continued relevance of the al-wujūh wa al-naẓā’ir approach in contemporary Qur’anic semantic studies.
