Abstract

Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) is a small pelagic fish species that has economic value to the community. Overfishing without management causes population decline and negative impacts on fish stocks. This study aims to analyze the morphometric characteristics of indian mackerel at Tanjung Luar Fish Landing Base (PPI), East Lombok. Data from 72 fish were collected from January to April 2024 using observation method and quantitative statistical analysis. The results of descriptive analysis showed that indian mackerel landed in Tanjung Luar PPI had average morphometric characteristics such as total length (22.07cm), standard length (18.75cm), fork length (20,35cm), head length (5.23cm), head height (4.47cm), body height (5.7cm), eye diameter (1.32cm), first dorsal fin base length (3.27cm), second dorsal fin base length (2.89cm), pectoral fin base length (2.60cm), ventral fin base length (2.35cm), anal fin base length (2.61cm), tail shaft length (4.14cm), tail shaft height (0.96cm), lower tail fin length (4.28 cm), and upper tail fin length (4.24cm). Fish growth showed an isometric growth pattern, with body parts growing proportionally. The dominant fish sizes caught were in the juvenile category at 18.2-20.6 cm (44%) and adults at 25.7-28.1 cm (28%). However, the large number of juvenile fish caught indicates the potential for overfishing, requiring effective management such as setting minimum size and fishing time to maintain the sustainability of the fish population.

Abstract

The intensive harvesting of Mangrove Crabs (Scylla serrata) has led to a significant decline in the population density of Scylla serrata in mangrove areas. Overfishing has resulted in a decrease in both the number and size of individual Mangrove Crabs and has altered the structure and composition of the population. This research aims to understand the morphometric characteristics of Scylla serrata, which will help sustain the population and protect mangrove areas as the native habitat for Scylla serrata and other organisms. Therefore, this study contributes to conservation and sustainable management efforts to ensure biodiversity. This type of research is descriptive-exploratory and aims to identify and analyze the size variations of Scylla serrata. The study was conducted at four points in the Essential Ecosystem Area (EEA) of Bagek Kembar Mangrove Forest, Sekotong, West Lombok, in both natural and rehabilitated zones. The results of this study found that the ratio of female to male Mangrove Crabs is 36:32, with females being more dominant in number. The morphometric characteristics of Mangrove Crabs in the Bagek Kembar Essential Ecosystem Area showed relatively uniform sizes across all sampling points, but some characteristics such as dactyl length, weight, and dactyl width showed significant differences, which may be influenced by the physiological condition of Scylla serrata and habitat conditions.

Abstract

Cabbage (Brassica oleracea) is one of the vegetable wastes that is often produced by the Amahami market, Bima City. With its easy-to-wilt nature and high water content, cabbage causes it to rot quickly, which will impact environmental problems. Processing market waste certainly requires sustainable management. One model of waste management is to use it as feed. This research aims to determine the effect of giving cabbage waste on the increase in the population of earthworms (Eudrilus eugeniae). The research was carried out in Bima City, Ule Village, Asakota District, Tolotongga Environment. The type of this research is experimental. The research design was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and ten replications. The parameter observed was the increase in the number of earthworms, analyzed using One Way Anova and followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results of the research showed that giving cabbage waste (Brassica oleracea) as feed had a significant effect (0.009<0.05) on increasing the population of earthworms (Eudrilus eugeniae). The treatment with the highest results was P1 (50 grams of cabbage), with an average number of worms of 367.30.

Abstract

This study aims to describe aspects of the reproductive biology of a blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) that landed at the southern end of the coast of East Lombok during the period November 2023 to April 2024. The study used a descriptive design with a quantitative approach to measure and analyze data through direct observation. Data included carapace width, body weight, gonad maturity stages, and gonad somatic index (GSI) of P.pelagicus. The results showed that the male P.pelagicus population was more dominant than females every month. P.pelagicus body weight varied, with significant increases in certain months caused by spawning. Analysis of the relationship between carapace width and body weight showed positive allometric growth, with b values of 3.17 for males and 3.10 for females, indicating that body weight gain was faster than carapace width. The maturity stages of the P.pelagicus gonads were mostly at stages I and II, with a few reaching stages III and IV. The average gonad maturity stages increased from 2.42% in November to a peak of 5,83 % in February, then decreased in the following months. The primary spawning time occurs from December to February, characterized by changes in gonad color and a decrease in the body weight of the P. pelagicus after spawning. Hopefully, this study’s results can positively contribute to the sustainable management of crabs (P. pelagicus).

Abstract

The eastern little tuna is one of a pelagic fish that has an economic important value and mostly landed at Fish Base Landing (PPI) Tanjung Luar. The needs of eastern little tuna are very affordable and sold economically in the markets, which causes a highly catching intensity by the fishermen regardless the catching season, so that many eastern little tuna which caught when they were in gonads matured and spawn session. The purpose of this study was to describe reproduction aspects comprises of gonads maturity stages, gonadosomatic index and fecundity. This research was taken on May till June 2018 from Fish Base Landing in Tanjung Luar. The total samples observed were 120 female fishes which collected from the fish base landing. The sample determination technique in this study was quota sampling. Gonad maturity stages were observed by morphological observation then the gonadosomatic index were measured. Fecundity ware treated on 36 samples at V and VI stages (gonads matured) to be measured by using gravimetric method. The result of this study revealed that gonads maturity of the female eastern little tuna was dominated by the fourth stage (51,67%), and then followed by the fifth stage (36,67%), the third stage (23,33%), the sixth stage (8,33%) the second stage (8,33%) and the first stage (6,62%). From those gonad maturity percentages showed that the eastern little tuna was not in the gonads matured session. The value of gonadosomatic index for the female eastern little tuna were about 0,0116% up to 0,0258%. Meanwhile the fecundity range between 192.246 ova until 601.497 ova on fish with the length between 415 mm until 640 mm.
