Abstract

Scylla serrata is one of the species included in the mangrove forest ecosystem which has high economic value for human life. Seeing that mud crabs have high economic potential both domestically and abroad with a fairly high level of demand and abundant availability of catches in nature, concerns arise about the condition of their population. This research aims to determine the population structure of mangrove crabs in the Bagek Kembar Mangrove Forest Area, West Lombok. The method used is purposive sampling. Sampling was carried out at 3 stations representing the entire research location area, namely on the seafront, in the middle and farthest from the arena facing the sea. Each station has its own characteristics. The distance between stations is 50 m. Each station is installed 6 folding trap with a distance between trap 10 m. The length, width, and high size are 50 cm, 30 cm, and 15 cm respectively. This tools are completed by 3 mm mesh size. The results of the research showed that the carapace length of male and female mud crabs that were mostly caught was in the 3 – 4.5 cm and 2.5 – 4.0 cm classes. The carapace width of male and female mud crabs most often caught is in the range of 4.4 – 6.5 cm and 3.5 – 5.5 cm. And the weight of the most commonly caught male and female mud crabs was in the class range of 11.39 – 111.5 grams and 13.77 – 74.5 grams. This research concludes that mangrove crabs that live in the Bagek Kembar Mangrove Forest Area, West Lombok, based on gender, carapace length, carapace width and body weight, are dominated by juveniles. Only a limited number reach catch size.

Abstract

An invertebrate critter called Saccostrea cucullata is typically found adhering to substrates like rocks and mangrove roots. The purpose of this study is to ascertain S. cucullata's abundance and distribution patterns. This study was carried out at West Lombok's Bagek Kembar Sekotong Natural Mangrove Area in February 2024. The samples were observed using the 5 x 5 m quadratic transect approach. To ascertain S. cucullata abundance and dispersion patterns, descriptive analysis was performed on the data. According to the study's findings, station I had the greatest abundance (1.81 Ind/m2), while station III had the lowest (0.95 Ind/m2). S. cucullata exhibits a clustered and uniform distribution pattern in certain areas. In the research region, temperature, salinity, and pH are the main factors affecting S. cucullata abundance and dispersion pattern, respectively.

Abstract

Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) is a small pelagic fish species that has economic value to the community. Overfishing without management causes population decline and negative impacts on fish stocks. This study aims to analyze the morphometric characteristics of indian mackerel at Tanjung Luar Fish Landing Base (PPI), East Lombok. Data from 72 fish were collected from January to April 2024 using observation method and quantitative statistical analysis. The results of descriptive analysis showed that indian mackerel landed in Tanjung Luar PPI had average morphometric characteristics such as total length (22.07cm), standard length (18.75cm), fork length (20,35cm), head length (5.23cm), head height (4.47cm), body height (5.7cm), eye diameter (1.32cm), first dorsal fin base length (3.27cm), second dorsal fin base length (2.89cm), pectoral fin base length (2.60cm), ventral fin base length (2.35cm), anal fin base length (2.61cm), tail shaft length (4.14cm), tail shaft height (0.96cm), lower tail fin length (4.28 cm), and upper tail fin length (4.24cm). Fish growth showed an isometric growth pattern, with body parts growing proportionally. The dominant fish sizes caught were in the juvenile category at 18.2-20.6 cm (44%) and adults at 25.7-28.1 cm (28%). However, the large number of juvenile fish caught indicates the potential for overfishing, requiring effective management such as setting minimum size and fishing time to maintain the sustainability of the fish population.

Abstract

The intensive harvesting of Mangrove Crabs (Scylla serrata) has led to a significant decline in the population density of Scylla serrata in mangrove areas. Overfishing has resulted in a decrease in both the number and size of individual Mangrove Crabs and has altered the structure and composition of the population. This research aims to understand the morphometric characteristics of Scylla serrata, which will help sustain the population and protect mangrove areas as the native habitat for Scylla serrata and other organisms. Therefore, this study contributes to conservation and sustainable management efforts to ensure biodiversity. This type of research is descriptive-exploratory and aims to identify and analyze the size variations of Scylla serrata. The study was conducted at four points in the Essential Ecosystem Area (EEA) of Bagek Kembar Mangrove Forest, Sekotong, West Lombok, in both natural and rehabilitated zones. The results of this study found that the ratio of female to male Mangrove Crabs is 36:32, with females being more dominant in number. The morphometric characteristics of Mangrove Crabs in the Bagek Kembar Essential Ecosystem Area showed relatively uniform sizes across all sampling points, but some characteristics such as dactyl length, weight, and dactyl width showed significant differences, which may be influenced by the physiological condition of Scylla serrata and habitat conditions.
