Abstract

Marital readiness, particularly in young adults, is an important aspect that will determine success in building a relationship with their spouse in the future. This study aimed to explore the key factors affecting marital readiness among university students. Critical factors included in this study design are age, family life preparation programs, emotional intelligence, and family life knowledge. A quantitative explanatory study with 120 university students in Jakarta Province as participants was conducted. Questionnaires consist of demographic data, family life knowledge, emotional intelligence, and marital readiness were used to collect the data. The data were then analyzed using PLS-SEM to determine the effect of the key factors on marital readiness. The results show that marital readiness is significantly influenced by age, involvement in family life preparation programs, family life knowledge, and emotional intelligence. Therefore, participating in family life preparation programs will enhance knowledge about preparing for family life, which will then increase marital readiness. Also, marital readiness will increase when university students have higher emotional intelligence and age.

Abstract

Society’s attitudes towards LGBT can be understood through college students’ viewpoints as the university’s environment can act as a microcosm of a larger community. Their voices can act as a representation of the youth generation and fellow citizens’ tolerance. This study aims to analyze the influences of religiosity and family gender roles socialization on students’ attitudes toward LGBT. Primary data used in this study were collected through an online questionnaire filled by 60 respondents, divided into male and female, who were selected by multistage random sampling technique involving all IPB’s undergraduate programs. This study found a significant difference between male and female students’ rejection of lesbians, with female students having higher rejection than male students. Students' religiosity and family gender roles socialization are in the medium category. Sex positively correlated to attitudes toward lesbians, while the mother's Occupation positively correlated to family gender roles, socialization, and religiosity was found to positively correlate with attitudes toward lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender. Sex, explicitly being female, positively influences attitudes toward lesbians. In contrast, religiosity positively influences attitudes toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, which means female students have a higher rejection of lesbians. The greater religiosity will result in increased rejection of LGBT.

Abstract

Single parents are associated with unique adjustment needs because of the multiple roles they accept, so heavy burdens, especially for single fathers, can trigger stress and affect their quality of life. This study aims to analyze the effect of stress levels and adjustment on the quality of life of single fathers. This study involved 60 single fathers living in villages and cities distributed throughout Indonesia using a purposive sampling technique with data collected through an online questionnaire google form. Processing data using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 25 with descriptive analysis, different independent sample t-tests, Kendalls tau-b and Pearson correlation test, and multiple linear regression test. The results showed that the variables of stress level and quality of life were in the medium category, while the adjustment variable was in the low category. The relationship test results showed a significant relationship between stress levels (negative), adjustment (positive), and quality of life. The regression test results showed a significant negative effect of stress levels and a significant positive self-adjustment on the quality of life of single fathers, meaning that the lower the stress level and the better the adjustment, the higher the quality of life of single fathers. The single father feels that with his current conditions, his quality of life can still be controlled, although sometimes he has some obstacles. In the future, it is hoped that this can be done regarding other variables that affect the quality of life, as well as exploring the comparison of single fathers and single mothers.

Abstract

Boys perceive the role of a father based on what he sees, namely the role of their father in the family. This study aimed to identify communication, father-son attachment, and husband's role based on student perceptions. Sixty male IPB students from villages and cities were respondents in this study. Based on the results of the study, it was found that there was no difference in communication, father-son attachment, and the perception of the husband's role between students from urban and rural areas. Therefore, the level of communication is in the medium category, attachment is in the safe category, and the perception of the husband's role is in the medium category. Based on the regression test, it is known that father-son communication has a significant positive effect on the perception of the husband's role. So, the higher the communication between father and son, the better the perception of the husband's role in the division of tasks, openness with partners, accountability for the use of resources, and agreement on achieving family goals. The theoretical implication of this research is to prove that father-son communication affects sons' perceptions of the father's role; in practice, good father-son communication makes boys open with their partners, take responsibility, and share household chores.
