Abstract

Parental involvement in children's academic caregiving at home plays a crucial role in their holistic and integrative academic development. This study aims to analyze: (1) descriptive statistics, (2) mean differences, (3) correlations, and (4) the influence of family characteristics, child characteristics, knowledge of the VAK academic parenting strategy, and the quality of the caregiving environment on the reading skills of children aged 5–6 years. The study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants were 100 stay-at-home mothers residing in Ciputat, South Tangerang, from intact families, with children aged 5–6 years enrolled in early childhood education programs. All mothers were aged 25–40 years, held at least a high school diploma or equivalent, and were not employed. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test indicated significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores, showing increases in all measured variables. Regression analysis revealed that the mother’s age negatively affected children's reading abilities, while the child’s age, gender (with girls performing better), maternal knowledge of the VAK strategy, and the quality of the caregiving environment had significant positive effects. These findings highlight the effectiveness of training in the VAK academic parenting strategy, particularly in helping older mothers transform information into new or improved knowledge that can be applied in caregiving practices at home. A key limitation of this study is its reliance on a single geographic area and a relatively homogeneous sample, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Future research is recommended to include more diverse participant backgrounds and longitudinal tracking to assess the long-term impact of academic parenting strategies.

Abstract

Marital satisfaction can be influenced by the quality of husband-wife interaction and the availability of social support. This quantitative study aims to examine the effects of husband-wife interaction, social support, and work-family balance on the marital satisfaction of female elementary school teachers with children under five years old in Bogor City. A total of 179 respondents participated in this study, consisting of 83 public and 96 private elementary school teachers. Data were collected through structured interviews and questionnaires. The analysis employed an independent sample t-test, correlation analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and path analysis using Smart Partial Least Squares (SmartPLS). The findings revealed significant differences in husband-wife interaction and work-family balance between public and private school teachers. Additionally, husband-wife interaction, social support, and work-family balance were significantly correlated with marital satisfaction. Furthermore, husband-wife interaction and social support were found to have a significant effect on marital satisfaction. These findings suggest the need for the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to re-evaluate the workload and responsibilities assigned to both public and private school teachers, particularly those with young children, in order to support a more optimal work-family balance and enhance marital satisfaction.

Abstract

Analysis of Maternal Religiosity, Parenting Style, and Social Support on Value of Children with Autism: Educational Implications. Objectives: This study examines the correlation and influence of maternal religiosity, parenting style, and social support on the value of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), along with implications for their education. Methods: A total of 145 mothers of children with ASD from the Greater Jakarta area were purposively sampled. Data were collected through online questionnaires, analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Findings: Most participants were millennial mothers with high educational attainment and stable economic status. High levels of religiosity, especially in personal religious practices, were reported, with family as the primary source of social support. Unexpectedly, correlation analysis revealed a negative association between maternal education level and value of children, although the children’s educational level was positively correlated with value of children. Although the authoritative parenting style emerged as the predominant approach, it did not exhibit a significant correlation with the perceived value of children. These findings highlight the crucial role of aligned maternal religiosity and adequate social support in shaping perceptions of children’s value. Conclusion: Highly educated mothers are negatively linked to perceived value of children, while children’s higher educational positively enhances their perceived value as symbols of autonomy and future potential. Therefore, strengthening maternal religiosity, family and community social support, and access to inclusive education are key to enhancing perceptions and educational outcomes for children with ASD. Keywords: autism, inclusive education, religiosity, social support, value of children.

Abstract

Long-distance marriage refers to a condition in which spouses live apart, potentially affecting their subjective well-being. This study aims to analyze the influence of family functioning, financial decision-making, and loneliness on subjective well-being in families experiencing long-distance marriage. A mixed-method approach was employed with 50 male and 55 female respondents. The findings indicate that family functioning scores were higher among female respondents compared to males, while no significant differences were found in other variables. The results of the SEM analysis show that family functioning on women had a significant positive effect, while loneliness on men had a significant negative effect on subjective well-being. Financial decision-making showed no significant impact. Families are encouraged to maintain shared spiritual routines and emotional connection, and engage in affective communication and social interaction to alleviate loneliness. Future research is expected to incorporate children‘s perspectives to better understand family functioning in long-distance marriage families.

Abstract

Domestic violence (DV) against wives remains a serious issue in Indonesia. Marital interaction and social support play a crucial role in improving the quality of life of wives who are victims of DV. This study generally aims to examine the effects of marital interaction, domestic violence, and social support on wives’ quality of life by testing hypotheses using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design through an online survey. The study involved 100 wives who were victims of DV, selected using purposive sampling in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area. The instruments used included the Interpersonal Behavior Scale, Domestic Violence Frequency, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and a modified version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life, all of which underwent pilot testing. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s correlation test via SPSS. The effect testing was performed using SMART-PLS, with model fit evaluated through fit measures, yielding a GoF> 0.36, indicating acceptable model adequacy for hypothesis testing. The results showed that marital interaction had a significant negative effect on domestic violence (β = -0.752***; p < 0.001). Domestic violence had a significant negative effect on social support (β = -0.285**; p < 0.01), while social support had a significant positive effect on wives’ quality of life (β = 0.545***; p < 0.001). Interestingly, domestic violence also demonstrated a significant positive effect on wives’ quality of life (β = 0.230*; p < 0.05). In addition, marital interaction significantly and positively affected wives’ quality of life (β = 0.330**; p < 0.01). These findings indicate that all research variables are interrelated and influence wives’ quality of life, thereby supporting all proposed hypotheses. The findings of this study provide practical implications for family counseling and psychosocial interventions in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area. Strengthening social support for wives who are victims of domestic violence is essential. Support from family members and close relatives, which remains limited, needs to be reinforced through family counseling, empathic communication training, and education on women’s rights. This study, however, has several limitations, including the absence of interviews, reliance solely on the victims’ perspectives, and data collection conducted exclusively through online surveys.

Abstract

Social skills are abilities that adolescents need to possess to form an attitude of empathy and social awareness. Adolescents acquire these social skills through good inter-family interactions at home. This study aimed to analyze the interaction between adolescents, parents, and peers, as well as the use of social media on social skills. This study involved 100 late adolescents aged 18–21 years throughout Indonesia. This study used a cross-sectional design and a survey method with a questionnaire tool using a Google form distributed during April 2022. The study results showed that the quality of adolescent-parent and peer interactions, use of social media, and social skills were moderate. The correlation test results showed a positive relationship between adolescent-parent and peer interactions and the use of social media with social skills. The regression test results showed a positive effect of adolescent-peer interaction and the use of social media on social skills. The conclusion was that the better the quality of adolescent interactions with peers and the use of social media, the greater the improvement in social skills. This research implies that a community that involves youth in social activities through Karang Taruna can provide youth with the opportunity to hone their social skills.
