Abstract

Stunting is a kind of condition where toddlers have less length or height than their age. The percentage of stunting  in Indonesia is still high and becomes a health problem. Stunting occurs due to several factors. One of which is lack of nutritional intake for infants. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between a history of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding with stunting in children aged 24-47 months. The type of this research was observational analytic with cross-sectional design. Data were collected by filling out a questionnaire by the respondents and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of this study showed that there was no correlation between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding with stunting. However, there are other factors that influence the occurrence of stunting, consisting of expenditure on food consumption (p=0.007), birth weight (p=0.035), and birth length (p=0.004).Keywords: exclusive breastfeeding; complementary feeding; stunting; toddler

Abstract

Stunting reflects chronic undernutrition during the most critical periods of growth and development in early life. Stunting can be caused by many factors such as child characteristic and socioeconomic factors. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated to stunting among children under five. This research was an analitycal observational study using case control design in Puskesmas Tanah Kali Kedinding, Surabaya. The samples were 34 subject for each group which were selected by simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed by Chi Square and Fisher Exact test. The result showed that low birth length (OR=4,091; CI=1,162-14,397), children who did not get exclusive breastfeeding (OR=4,643; CI=1,328-16,233), low family income (OR=3,250; CI=1,150-9,187), low mother’s education (OR=3,378; CI=1,246-9,157), and lack of mother’s nutrition knowledge (OR=3,877; CI=1,410- 10,658) had significant relationship with stunting among children under five. There was a relationship between birth length, exclusive breastfeeding, family income, mother’s education and mother’s nutrition knowledge with stunting among children under five. The need for an integrated and multisectoral programs to increase family income, maternal education, maternal nutrition knowledge, and exclusive breastfeeding for reducing the incidence of stunting.Keywords: children, socioeconomic, stunting

Abstract

Less knowledge related to street food among primary schoolchildren is one of problem that need an attention. An effort to tackle that problem is crucial, for example by giving nutrition education through educational media. This research aims to analyze differences in knowledge after intervention with nutrition card and whiteboard. The design study used was quasi experimental with pre test – post test control group. Sample in this study was fifth grade student with 27 primary schoolchildren in each group. Intervention was conducted for 1 month consist of 8 meetings and each meeting was done for over 30 minutes. Based on mann whitney test, result shows that there was a differences in knowledge (P<0,05) after nutrition education with a nutrition card. The conclusion from this study is nutrition card could knowledge about food street among primary schoolchildren. Wider socialization of this type of education is need to be done both in schoolchildren in SDN Keputih 245 as well as other schools.Keywords: nutrition card, nutrition education, primary school children

Abstract

Breast milk is the ideal source of nutrition with a balanced composition of both quantity and quality, also adjusted to needs of the baby in the growth stage. Babies are considered get enough breastmilk if they achieve significant weight gain. The purpose of this research is to find the relationship between frequency and duration of breastfeeding with neonatal weight changes in Gandusari Trenggalek Public Health Center. This study is an observational analytic with cross sectional design. Sample in this study was a neonatal in Gandusari Trenggalek Public Health Center. The study was conducted in April-Juni 2015 by number of samples as much as 32 neonatus. The statistic test using chi-square with 95% confident interval. Most of neonatus got frequencies of breastfeeding in “often” category (84.4%), duration of breastfeeding in “enough” category (78.1%), and the majority of neonatal infant have a weight change in the “up“ category (53.1%). Based on statistical analysis, there was a relationship between the frequency of breastfeeding with the neonatal weight changes (p=0.015) and there was no relationship between the duration of breastfeeding with the neonatal weight changes (p=0.209). The conclusion of this research is that neonatus weight change associated to frequency of breastfeeding, but not related to duration of breastfeeding. The importance to communicate the information and education of breastfeeding to mothers about the practice of breastfeeding frequency within 24 hours so that ut can optimize baby’s growth.Keywords: duration of breastfeeding, frequency of breastfeeding, neonatal infant, weight changes

Abstract

Nutrition issues in adolescents arise because of inappropriate dietary habit, causing an imbalance between nutritional  intakes and the recommended dietary allowances. The prevalence of obesity in adolescents increased within the last 30 years. The percentage of adolescents aged 12-19 years who were obese increased from 18,4% in 2009-2010 to 20,5% in 2012. Obesity occurred because of behavior and habit of adolescent who consume high calorie food excessively. The aim of this research was to analyze the difference of intake and nutritional adequacy between obese and nonobeseadolescents. This study was an analytical observational research with cross sectional design. The sample was 46 Senior High School students that divided into 23 obese and 23 non obese adolescent groups chosen by simple random sampling. The obesity data was obtained from the results of anthropometric measurements, while intake and nutritional adequacy were obtained from 2x24 hours food recall form. Mann Whitney test was used to analyze the difference between variable. The research revealed that there was a difference of energy intake, carbohydrates, protein, and fat with p-value 0,01, 0,00, 0,038 and 0,018 respectively, and nutritional adequacy of energy, carbohydrates, protein, and fat with 0,02, 0,00, 0,017 and 0,018 respectively between obese and non-obese adolescents. It can be concluded that there is a difference of intake and nutritional adequacy between obese and non-obese adolescents. Providing information and education about obesity, it risks, and healthy diet are recommended to prevent obesity.Keywords: intake, nutritional adequacy, obesity, adolescents

Abstract

Vitamin A defi ciency in Indonesia is still unresolved, especially in children. Pumpkin is a type of tubers and a local  food product that contains high beta-carotene. It is also potential to be used as a substitution for snacks which favored by children such as donuts. The purpose of this study was to determine the acceptability and beta-carotene level of pumpkin donut substitution. This research was true experimental for product development and quasi experimental for acceptability with a completely randomized design, 6 repetitions on one control formula (F0) and 3 modifi cation formula (F1, F2, F3) with additional of pumpkin. Panelist consists of 4 people as limited panelists and 30 people as non trained panelists. The difference of acceptability was analyze using Friedman test and continued with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test if it shows a signifi cant difference. The level of beta-carotene was analyze using spectrophotometer. The result of this study showed the best acceptability found in formula 3 (with 40% addition of pumpkin) with an average value of 2,28 and beta-carotene level of was 0,139 ppms. Formula 3 donut have a good acceptability and also contains higherbeta-carotene than commercial donuts, so it is potential as an alternative healthy snack for schoolchildren.Keywords: beta-carotene, acceptance, donuts, pumpkin

Abstract

Sedentary activity is an activity that requires very low energy expenditure, such as sitting or lying down while watching television, playing electronic games, and reading that can cause negative effects on health. One of the negative impactis increasing risk for obesity. The purpose of this study was to describe the nutrition adequacy level and sedentary activity among overweight and normal adolescent. This research was descriptive study with cross-sectional design. Thesample was 70 students of SMPN 3 Gresik which divided into two groups based on their nutritional status, overweight or normal with 35 samples in each group. Data of nutrient intake, sedentary activity, and measurements of height and weight obtained from questionnaires and direct interview with respondents. Research showed that majority of overweight adolescent, had an energy and carbohydrate adequacy levels more than 77% of RDA compared to normaladolescent. Overweight and normal adolescents have a similar protein and fat adequacy level. Overweight adolescents had greater sedentary activity level the normal one. Majority of overweight adolescent have higher adequacy levelof energy, carbohydrate, and sedentary activity than normal adolescent. Reducing consumption of sweet, fatty foods, increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, also increase regular physical activity need to be done by the respondent

Abstract

Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) adherence infl uenced HIV/AIDS patient’s quality of life and otherwise quality of life influenced ART adherence positively, where the better quality of life of People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), the more ability of patient to adhere on their ART regiment. The purpose of this study was to analyze association between ART adherence and outpatient HIV/AIDS patient’s quality of life in four domains at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. This study was an observational study with cross sectional design. Sample was 94 HIVAIDS patients’s outpatient and selected by using accidental sampling technique. The data was analyzed using Spearman correlation test. The result of study showed that most of HIVAIDS patients were 36–55 years old (53.2%), male (59.6%), normal nutritional status (42.6%), having high ART adherence in the last one month (79.8%), and having quality of life’s mean score in all domains ranged at 50–60 (30–40%). This study showed that there was an association between ART adherence in the last one month and quality of life in physical health (r =0.212, P = 0.040) and environment’s domain (r = 0.258, P = 0.012). It is suggested a comprehensive AIDS care program primarily with considering physical health and environment factors that could increase HIV/AIDS patient’s quality of life. It is suggested a longitudinal study with greater numbers of respondent and combine the use of measurement instrument to understand factors related to ARTadherence and quality of life.Keywords: sex, ART adherence, quality of life, nutritional status, age

Abstract

There are many malnutrition problems in children under fi ve, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. One of factor affecting nutritional status is maternal nutrition knowledge that will imply in caring and feeding practice. Underweight is also affected by social economy factors such as family income, food expenditure, mother’s education and occupation. Therefore, the aim of this research was to analyze differences of social economy characteristic and maternal nutrition knowledge between under-fi ve children with underweight and normal nutritional status. Thisresearch was analytical-observational study with cross sectional design. Sample of this research was children aged 24–60 months that living in the working area of Sidotopo Public Health Centre. The number of sample was 19 children in each sub-population based on nutritional status. Data was collected through primary data collecting with direct interview and questionnaire. The result showed signifi cant difference of maternal nutrition knowledge between children with underweight and normal nutritional status (p = 0.004). There is no difference in social economy characteristic such as mother’s education (p = 0.189), mother’s occupation (p = 0.387), and family income (p = 0.189), and food expenditure (p = 0.515). Therefore, improving maternal nutrition knowledge and skills in local community or public health centre is necessary.Keywords: under-fi ve children, nutrition knowledge, nutritional status

Abstract

Iron supplementation is one of the anemia prevention program in Indonesia. Success Indicator of its program is ANC coverage and coverage of iron tablet distribution. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the ANC (Antenatal Care) and iron tablet coverage with prevalence of anemia among pregnant women in East Java year 2015. This research used data report from Nutrition Division and Family Health Division of Provincial Health Office East Java. Data was analyse using Pearson correlation test. The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women in East Java was 5.8%, the result are still below the national target which is 28%. The result showed that there was no relationship between the ANC and iron tablet coverage with the prevalence of anemia (p-value > 0.05). It is concluded that coverage of iron supplementation among pregnant women through ANC does not describe the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women due to many factors that infl uence anemia such as bioavailability of iron and compliance pregnant women consume iron.Keywords: anemia, ANC coverage, iron tablet
