Abstract

Highlight: Pediatric tuberculosis patients profile using the medical records was determined. The most pediatric tuberculosis patients under five years have pulmonary tuberculosis.Pediatric tuberculosis patients received BCG immunization had a contact with adult tuberculosis patients histories. Abstract:The prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) in Indonesia is 391 per 100,000 population with the number of deaths around 110,000 cases in 2016. This study is descriptive research that aims to determine the profile of pediatric TB patients using the medical records at Taman public health center the period 2016-2019 with a total sampling technique. The sample in this study were 31 pediatric patients aged 0-14 years with a history of TB. Pediatric TB patients aged >5 years (58.1%) and who aged ≤5 years (41.9%). Pediatric TB patients had pulmonary tuberculosis (83.9%) and those who had extrapulmonary tuberculosis (16.1%). Pediatric TB patients aged ≤5 years had good nutritional status (32%) and who had poor nutritional status (27.2%). Meanwhile, pediatric TB patients aged >5 years had poor nutritional status (22.7%) and who had good nutritional status (18.1%). Pediatric TB patients who had a history of contact with adult TB patients (86.7%) and who did not have a history of contact with adult TB patients (13.3%). Pediatric TB patients who had received BCG immunization (86.2%) and who had not received BCG immunization (13.8%). This study concludes that most pediatric TB patients are >5 years old, almost all pediatric TB patients have pulmonary tuberculosis. Pediatric TB patients aged ≤5 years are more likely to have good nutrition. Meanwhile, there were more pediatric TB patients aged >5 years who had poor nutritional status. Almost all pediatric TB patients had a history of contact with adult TB patients and had received BCG immunization.

Abstract

Hyperbilirubinemia is a condition of high levels bilirubin accumulating in blood and known as jaundice, a yellow coloration of the skin, sclera and nails. Hyperbilirubinemia is a problem that often occurs in newborns. Patients with neonatal hyperbilirubinemia are treated with phototerapy and exchange transfusion. The purpose of this study was to identify the hyperbilirubinemia treatments on neonatal in Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. Medical records were used to collect information on hyperbilirubinemia status and type of treatments in 2010. Inclusion criteria were used to select samples in this study. All hyperbilirubinemia patients (100 neonates) were treated with phototherapy, in which 32% of them got the treatment for less than 24 hours; and 68% got the treatment more than 24 hours. After treatment, 100% patients cured.  Hyperbilirubinemia neonates in RSUD Dr Sutomo were treated with phototherapy and the treatment was successful.

Abstract

Tuberculosis developed differently in each individual. The role of HIV in the disease development is widely known unlike the role of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection. Therefore, this study is aimed at to describe the role of those co-infections in the TB development. The study employed observational – case control design with two groups, case and control group. Data collection include TB condition, whether latent or manifest, and history of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C co-infection. The study successfully recruited the total of 32 respondents in each group. At the case group, the number of male and respondent is 19 and 13. Meanwhile, at the control group the number male respondent is 10 and the female respondent is 22. The study found that 20 and 12 respondents were positive Hepatitis B at the case and the control group. Chi-square test resulted significant different between two groups (P=0.0455 and a =0.05) with odd ratio p=0.479. Meanwhile, the study only tested one respondent with positive Hepatitis C at case group and one at control group. Comparison analysis found no significant different between groups (P=1 and a =0.05). This study reveals that TB patients are more likely to have history of Hepatitis B 2.7 times than those at the control group with the same infection but without TB development. Therefore, the possibility of Hepatitis B co-infection has role in the TB manifestation, but not for Hepatitis C co-infection.

Abstract

There have been several studies reporting the effect of hypercholesterolemia on cortical thickness, but it remains a controversy. Some studies suggest that hypercholesterolemia can decrease osteoblast activity and increase osteoclast activity. Meanwhile other studies suggest that hypercholesterolemia is a protective factor of osteoporosis. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study to determine the effect of hypercholesterolemia on cortical bone thickness. Method: This study used 8 rats (Rattus norvegicus) that were divided into 2 groups, including control group (K0) that was given standard diet and experimental group (K1) that was given high fat diet for 28 days and all were executed to obtain the femur bone. The cortical bone thickness was measured by using Optilab Viewer and Optilab Image Raster software. Result: The data analysis was conducted using independent t-test. A p value of <0.05 is considered significant. The results showed that hypercholesterolemia had significant effect on cortical bone thickness. The average cortical bone thickness in the control group was 146.92 µm whereas in the experimental group was 124.53 µm, the mean difference between the two groups was 22.39 µm. There was a 6% decrease of cortical bone thickness. In conclusion, hypercholesterolemia can decrease cortical bone thickness of wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus).
