Abstract

Abstract: This classroom action research focused on determining how the Padlet application could improve the eleventh-grade students' ability to write narrative text during the Ilmu Budaya dan Bahasa 2020/2021 academic year at MAN 1 Pasuruan. This application was chosen by the researcher to stimulate the students' interest and motivation in learning English. The researcher discovered that 36 (90%) of the students could achieve a passing grade. It proved improvements from the minimum standard of mastery criteria to the final test. Based on the findings of this research, it is possible to conclude that using the Padlet application can improve the ability of eleventh grade students to write narrative text.Abstrak: Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penggunaan aplikasi Padlet dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis naratif Kelas XI Ilmu Budaya dan Bahasa di MAN 1 Pasuruan Tahun Ajaran 2020/2021 untuk mempelajari cara penggunaan aplikasi Padlet. Peneliti memilih aplikasi ini untuk siswa agar tertarik dan termotivasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Peneliti menemukan bahwa 36 (90%) siswa mampu mencapai passing grade. Hal ini merupakan peningkatan dari standar minimal kriteria ketuntasan pada ujian akhir. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan aplikasi Padlet dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis naratif pada siswa kelas I.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to self-reflect the student-teacher’s (ST’s) scaffolding during her online teaching practicum practice. The self-reflective was conducted in six meetings using a Zoom Application. It utilized a thematic analysis from Braun Clarke (2006). The findings showed that the student-teacher was able to: (1) be aware of her scaffolding drawbacks and improved significantly in the next meetings, (2) improve students’ understanding, (3) conduct appropriate scaffolding learning process by utilizing various graphic organizers and media. While the student teacher was effective in using the scaffolding technique, each theme's improvement path is different. Every meeting is typically used to develop it, and it is acquired in a step-by-step manner.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed at improving EFL students’ listening comprehension using the implementation of podcast with transcripts through reading-while-listening strategy. The result of mean score in final test showed 81. 95 which increased 13. 05 points from initial test and discovered that 86 % of students achieved the standard passing score. Likewise, the second semester students revealed that they get used to being actively involved in the discussion and showed their enthusiasm during the teaching and learning process. In conclusion, reading-while-listening strategy serves as an effective teaching strategy especially for low-level students to improve their comprehension in listening skills.

Abstract

Listening is one of the essential language skills, but previous research has shown that listening is one of the most difficult language skills to acquire. There are two main factors that can cause problems when learning listening skills, there are external and internal. Self-efficacy is one of the internal factors. On the other hand, English songs are said to be an effective medium for students to learn listening skills. The purpose of this study is to describe the ELE fresh graduate student’s habit of listening to English songs and their listening self-efficacy. The study is using descriptive study, there are 40 participants, and the researcher used a questionnaire and in-depth interviews to collect the data. The research showed that there is positive result from participants’ habit of listening to English songs and their listening self-efficacy. There are some main factors of English songs that help students to improve their listening, namely the lyrics, the exposure of new vocabulary, and the positive effect on students’ mood.

Abstract

This study sought to provide a nuanced understanding of how can metacognitive strategies can be implemented for improving students’ listening comprehension skill of Eight graders students of Junior High School in Malang. This study employed Classroom Action Research in one cycle. This study was done in eight meetings, in which the preliminary and final tests were done in first and last meetings. Each meeting employed metacognitive strategies and Three-Phase Technique simultaneously; 1) Planning stage with Pre-listening phase, 2) Monitoring stage with Whilst-listening phase, and 3) Evaluating stage with Post-listening phase. The data gathered qualitatively through observation sheets, field notes, students’ interview, students’ questionnaire. The findings of this study found several trends of MSI that can improve students’ listening skill, namely strengthen students’ prior knowledge, incorporate process-based discussion, and the importance of teacher’s talk in MSI. However, Therefore, for further research in the same realm, it is urged to employ the results of this study as one of references in conducting research in similar field of the study. However, deeper evaluation concerning the findings of this study also need to be taken into account as this study could not be used as overgeneralization context as this study only use small sample.
