Abstract

The widespread integration of digital teaching platforms in education has prompted an exploration of their impact on teacher workload and well-being. This research focuses on understanding the effects of Platform Merdeka Mengajar (PMM), a prominent digital teaching platform in Indonesia, on the workload and well-being of participating high school teachers in Banda Aceh Municipality and Great Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, Indonesia. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive research design, six teachers were interviewed to explore their experiences with PMM. Thematic analysis of the interviews revealed that while PMM offers valuable resources and fosters professional collaboration, it also increases workload and stress due to additional preparation time and the need for technological adaptation. The study highlights the importance of providing targeted training, improving the platform's usability, and enhancing its integration features to mitigate these challenges. Despite its limitations, including a small sample size and potential biases in qualitative data, the study provides insights into the potential benefits and challenges of integrating digital platforms into educational practices in Indonesia. The findings underscore the need for a balanced approach to technological integration that supports teachers' professional development and well-being. A more supportive access is necessary to develop the digital platform to balance the nuanced dynamics of teachers’ workload and well-being.

Abstract

This research aims to design and implement an Arabic vocabulary teaching curriculum based on ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) for entry-level nursing students at Muhammadiyah Mahakarya University, Aceh. An ACTFL-based approach was chosen to ensure that learning Arabic does not only emphasize understanding grammar, but also effective communication skills in a clinical context. This research method involves curriculum development stages which include needs analysis, material design, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum effectiveness. The research subjects consisted of 30 entry-level nursing students who took part in a learning program for one semester. Research instruments include pre-test and post-test to measure vocabulary improvement, questionnaires to assess student satisfaction, and observations to assess engagement and interaction in class. The research results showed that the ACTFL-based curriculum significantly increased mastery of Arabic vocabulary relevant to nursing among students. The pre-test and post-test showed an average increase in scores of 45%, while the satisfaction questionnaire showed 90% of students felt more confident using Arabic in clinical contexts. Class observations show that communicative and interactive learning methods encourage active student participation. The ACTFL-based Arabic vocabulary teaching curriculum is effective in improving nursing students' communication skills in clinical situations. Recommendations from this research include expanding the implementation of this curriculum to other nursing study programs and further developing learning materials for advanced levels.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential of ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence (AI), to transform teacher competence and lesson design in a junior high school setting in Lhokseumawe, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design was employed with 25 junior high school teachers from Ihyaaussunnah, Lhokseumawe, Aceh. These teachers were asked to utilize ChatGPT for various pedagogical tasks, including lesson planning, assessment design, and content creation. Pre- and post-test questionnaires assessed changes in teacher competence, while a rubric was used to evaluate the quality of lesson modules designed with ChatGPT. Results revealed significant improvements in all measured aspects of teacher competence, including pedagogical knowledge, technological proficiency, and confidence in using ChatGPT for instructional purposes. Lesson modules created with ChatGPT were rated highly across all evaluation criteria, indicating their effectiveness and alignment with modern pedagogical approaches. Qualitative feedback from teachers highlighted the time-saving benefits of ChatGPT, its ability to enhance creativity and personalize learning experiences, and its potential to spark new pedagogical approaches. However, some teachers reported initial challenges in formulating effective prompts and emphasized the need for ongoing support and training. This study provides valuable insights into the potential of ChatGPT to empower teachers and improve instructional design. However, the small sample size and context-specific nature of the findings limit generalizability. Further research is needed to explore the long-term impact of ChatGPT on teacher competence and student learning outcomes in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

In the past decade, the global attention to inclusive education has driven structural transformations in learning systems, including in adaptive classrooms. However, even though physical and curricular access is expanding, the emotional voice of children with special needs (CWSN) is still often ignored in the empirical discourse of education. This qualitative research aims to explore and elevate the emotional narrative of CWSN in the context of an adaptive inclusive class. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected through non-invasive observational techniques combined with journals of teacher reflection and children's creative expression (such as free images and stories) from 12 children aged 7–11 years in three inclusive primary schools. The results show that although adaptive classes have provided structural accommodation, the response to the emotional needs of CWSN is still inadequate. Some of the key themes that emerge in children's narratives include feelings of silence, fragile attachment, and the occasional happiness—suggesting that true inclusion cannot be achieved through physical adjustment alone, but rather requires deeper affective and relational engagement. This research makes an important contribution to the inclusive education literature by emphasizing the importance of emotional literacy, recognition of children's voices, and affectively responsive pedagogy as an integral part of inclusive classroom design. The implications of this study confirm the need for teacher training that places the emotional aspect at the center of a participatory culture and inclusive learning for all learners.
