Abstract

This research discusses the power of local political elites and the application of network governance in the implementation of poverty alleviation policies in Gresik Regency. The main focus of the research is how the dominance of local political elites affects the decision-making process, resource distribution, and policy effectiveness, and how network governance plays a role in overcoming these challenges. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results show that the dominance of local political elites often prioritises political interests over substantive policy objectives, resulting in unequal distribution of resources and limitations in achieving policy targets. In addition, network governance in Gresik District faces challenges in the form of weak coordination between stakeholders, the limited role of the private sector and civil society organisations, and the lack of active participation of local communities. This research emphasises the need for network governance reform to create more inclusive, transparent, and sustainable poverty alleviation policies. A collaborative approach that involves equal roles between the government, private sector, NGOs, and communities is an important step to improve policy effectiveness. In addition, limiting the dominance of local political elites is necessary to ensure that policies are based on the needs of the community, not political interests alone.

Abstract

Based on empirical findings, this article concludes that the influx of Chinese migrant workers is a serious threat against Indonesian local and migrant workers in the overseas, amidst the high number of unemployment. The local and migrant workers have struggled to seek for a better job under uncertain situation in Indonesia. The Indonesian government attempts to create more job vacancies, yet the government has welcomed more migrant workers especially from China. Furthermore, Indonesian migrant workers are also recognized as the highest contributor for Indonesian remittance for many years. The influx of Chinese migrant workers blatantly hit both Indonesian local and migrant workers. In addition, this was a humiliation against Indonesian workers, which have struggled to migrate overseas through illegal and very risky ways. Conversely, a large number of Chinese migrant workers have been deployed in various projects, which basically can be handled by local workers. The arrival of Chinese migrant workers, of course, became a controversial issue especially among Indonesian local and migrant workers, who have faced difficult situation such as exploitation, humiliation, and contract abuses. This is a qualitative research enriched with semi-structured interviews with some key respondents specifically those who have experiences and expertise on migrant workers issues.

Abstract

Empowering women's farmer groups (KWT) is crucial for community development. One such growing KWT is the Tunas Mulia Women's Group (KWT) in Tambaksogra Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency, which has a melon and pakcoy (vegetable) cultivation program. The availability of melons and pakcoy at KWT Tunas Mulia is quite high at certain times, resulting in low prices and some unsold surpluses. KWT Tunas Mulia still lacks understanding of product processing. This community service activity aims to upscale and diversify the added value of KWT Tunas Mulia's products. The community service method uses service learning, starting with education and counseling and ending with practical processing of melon products into ice cream and pakcoy into vegetable chips. The partners in this community service activity are all 15 members of KWT Tunas Mulia. This community service activity was carried out in August 2025. Based on the results of the community service activity, there was a transfer of knowledge understanding regarding the importance of product processing by KWT Tunas Mulia as well as the success of direct practice in processing melon and pakcoy harvested by KWT Tunas Mulia into ice cream and pakcoy vegetable chips optimally. The results of the evaluation questionnaire that measured the success of this community service had a percentage of 80%, so it can be concluded that this community service program is running well.ABSTRAKPemberdayaan kelompok wanita tani (KWT) penting dilakukan dalam rangka pembangunan masyarakat. Abstract

Abstract

This article investigates the religious and spiritual dimensions of the kris which is a cherised cultural heirloom. This research aims to portray the deepest meaning of the kris according to the kris enthusiasts in East Java. It is essential to see the kris from local knowledge perspectives. In exploring the meaning of the kris as a sacred object, the article puts forth two main questions: how the kris enthusiasts view the kris as a cultural symbol and how religious and spiritual experiences of the kris influence their views on daily life. This research uses a qualitative method with a combination of phenomenology and ethnography approaches. Data collection was through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, with informants selected using purposive sampling. The results of the research show that firstly, the kris enthusiasts view the kris as a religious symbol that helps build their journey of life. The kris is understood as a symbol of noble values and to contain a philosophy of life that is inseparable from other elements, including beliefs, moral values, art, thoughts and practices, thereby being of great importance for the lives of the kris enthusiasts. Secondly, the religious and spiritual experiences of the kris are not limited to external or ritualistic aspects alone, but also encompass the internal dimension that gives birth to spiritual and religious depth, creating a space of meaning for profound human experience.
