Abstract

Peranan  cendawan   mikoriza  arbuskula   (CMA)  dalam  membantu  pertumbuhan   dan ketahanan   tanaman yang  tumbuh  pada  lahan  marginal seperti  lahan bekas  tambang  sangat  penting.  Penelitian   ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan    infonnasi   keanekaragaman    hayati  CMA  pada  lahan  bekas tambang   batubara   dan isolat yang paling  efektifuntuk    membantu pertumbuhan   bibit Acacia crassicarpa. Isolasi  dan pemurnian dilakukan menurut  metode  Brundett  et al. dengan  inang Pruearia.javanica. Sedangkan uji kompatibilitas dilakukan   dengan  bibit  A.  crassicarpa umur  7 hari. Pertumbuhan    diamati  melalui  pengukuran    tinggi setiap bulan  selama  3 bulan.  Setelah  3 bulan bib it dipanen  dan diamati nodulasi,  biomassa,  dan persentase akar terinfeksi  CMA. Hasil penelitian  menunjukkan  bahwa pada lahan bekas tambang  batubara  di Sumatera Selatan  ditemukan   Scutelospora sp.,  Acaulospora sp.,  dan Glomus sp. Jenis  yang  mendominasi   adalah G/omus sp. Isolat  13 (Glomus sp.)  yang  diisolasi  dari A.  auriculiformis merupakan   isolat  yang  paling kompatibel   dan efektif,  terbukti  isolat  ini dapat  meningkatkan   tinggi,  biomas,  dan  nodulasi  tanaman  A. crassicarpa berturut-turut    sebesar  38 %, 201 %, dan  108 %. lsolat  ini juga mempunyai  produktivitas yang tinggi (256 spora/10  g inokulum)  dan infektif(84  %). Dengan demikian,  isolat ini dapat dikembangkan sebagai   inokulum  A. crassicarpa pada  kegiatan  revegetasi   lahan  bekas  tambang  batubara

Abstract

Teknik pembenihan langsung merupakan salah satu metode alternatif untuk mendukung reforestasi dan rehabilitasi hutan dan lahan di daerah tropika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode penaburan (pembenaman) benih dan gulma terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman merbau (Intsia bijuga OK.). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kebun percobaan Cikabayan Fakultas Pertanian Institut Pertanian Bogor  yang berlangsung mulai bulan November 2008 hingga Februari 2009. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode benih dibenamkan berpengaruh nyata terhadap parameter pertumbuhan tanaman. Metode benih dibenamkan dapat meningkatkan tinggi (28,44 cm), daya berkecambah (95%), laju perkecambahan (12,21 hari), persen jadi benih (89,67%) dan penyerapan unsur hara N dan P dibanding dengan metode benih ditutup mulsa. Metode benih ditutup mulsa dan tidak ada penyiangan menghasilkan berat kering akar yang rendah (0,8 g).

Abstract

Kondisi lahan-lahan marginal dapat menjadi faktor pembatas bagi penanaman semai-semai tanaman kehutanan di lapangan. Dengan demikian perlu adanya penyiapan semai-semai yang berkualitas untuk dapat bertahan dan adaptif terhadap kondisi lapang. Salah satu alternatif yang dapat dilakukan adalah pemanfaatan Fungi Mikoriza Arbuskula (FMA). Reformulasi inokulum FMA perlu dilakukan dengan menambahkan bahan yang mengandung unsur hara dalam mempercepat responnya terhadap tanaman. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji hasil reformulasi inokulum FMA dalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan semai jati Muna (Tectona grandis L.f.). Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan faktorial dalam rancangan acak kelompok (RAK), menggunakan 2 faktor perlakuan, faktor pertama yaitu reformulasi inokulum FMA dan faktor kedua adalah dosis inokulum. Peubah pertumbuhan yang diamati adalah tinggi semai (cm), diameter batang (cm), bobot kering semai (g), nisbah pucuk akar, bobot kering akar terinfeksi (g), kolonisasi akar dan jumlah spora. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan reformulasi inokulum FMA mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan semai jati Muna. Perlakuan inokulum G. etunicatum dengan vermikompos 40% (A3) dan Glomus sp. dengan vermikompos 40% (B3) menghasilkan peningkatan bobot kering semai berturut-turut sebesar 529% dan 500% dibanding kontrol dan pemberian dosis reformulasi inokulum FMA 15 g/semai merupakan dosis optimum yang dapat meningkatkan tinggi dan diameter semai jati Muna. Peubah kolonisasi akar cenderung berkorelasi positif dengan peubah pertumbuhan semai jati Muna.

Abstract

Arthroschista hilaralis merupakan hama defoliator yang pada saat ini banyak menyerang tanaman jabon dengan tingkat kerusakan yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji neraca kehidupan A. hilaralis pada tanaman jabon (A. cadamba Miq.). Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan 30 telur A. hilaralis yang dipelihara hingga menjadi imago dan bertelur kembali. Data sintasan spesifik umur (lx) dan keperidian spesifik umur (mx) digunakan sebagai dasar untuk menghitung parameter pertumbuhan populasi, antara lain laju reproduksi kotor (GRR), laju reproduksi bersih (Ro), rata-rata masa generasi (T), dan laju pertumbuhan instrinsik (r). Hasil penelitian menunjuk- kan GRR A. hilaralis adalah 141 individu/generasi, Ro sebesar 70 individu/induk/generasi, T selama 23,5 hari, dan r sebesar 0,18 individu/induk/hari. Tindakan pengelolaan hama secara berkala sangat diperlukan dalam mengontrol perkembangan hama ini, karena tingginya tingkat perkembangan dan cepatnya laju pertumbuhan A. hilaralis.

Abstract

Pertumbuhan tegakan adalah pertambahan (riap) dari suatu besaran seperti tinggi, diameter, volume atau luas bidang dasar pohon dalam periode tertentu. Model pertumbuhan digunakan untuk menduga besaran produktivitas dan sangat berguna dalam perencanaan pengelolaan hutan tanaman suatu jenis pohon. Kajian model pertumbuhan jenis Eucalyptus urograndis telah di lakukan tahun 2009 di PT Toba Pulp Lestari, sektor Aek Nauli, Sumatera Utara pada rotasi 1 dan rotasi 2 dengan tujuan untuk membandingkan pertumbuhan jenis tersebut antara rotasi 1 dan rotasi 2, dan menentukan daur volume optimalnya. Kajian dilakukan dengan menggunakan data dari PSP (Permanent Sample Plots) yang diukur secara periodik dan data hasil pengukuran sesaat pada TSP (Temporary Sample Plots) dari berbagai umur tegakan. Hasil kajian mendapatkan bahwa pendugaan pertumbuhan jenis E. urograndis dapat mengikuti persamaan tinggi (H), diameter (D) dan volume (V) sebagai berikut : ln H = 3,40434 - 1,73745 (1/umur); ln D = 2,99598 - 1,56925 (1/umur); ln V = 6,300505 - 5,63547 (1/umur) dengan daur volume optimal dicapai pada tahun 5,5 tahun untuk rotasi 1 dan persamaan : ln H = 3,342944 - 1,5336 (1/umur); ln D = 2,987992 - 1,44311 (1/umur) dan ln V = 6,205122 - 5,06804 (1/umur) dengan daur volume optimal dicapai pada tahun ke 5 untuk rotasi 2. Model pertumbuhan dan teknik yang sama dapat digunakan untuk jenis E. urograndis pada kondisi lingkungan yang relatif sama.

Abstract

Mining activities results on environmental degradation and finally on ecosystem damage. Legume cover crop forming symbiosis with beneficial soil microorganism is widely well known to be used for degraded land reclamation such as in post mining area. Desmodium spp. is one of legume cover crop forming symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and rhizobium symbiosis. This study aimed to analyse the growth respond D. ovalifolium that has inoculated AMF from rhizosfer of 4 types of Desmodium spp. There were two factors that are AMF inoculation and media treatment, were applied: with or without inoculation of AMF, and with or without applications of compost. Inoculation of AMF and compost application increased height of O. sumatrana two week after planting (WAP). Single inoculation of AMF into desmodium spp. improved height variables of stem significantly, total biomass, sprout biomass, and  number of postule roots as well. Combination of compost and post mining soil had the highest increased in height 2 WAP and roots biomass of Desmodium spp. This research implies that AMF application is an important key for effective methods in improving plant grow in post mining area.

Abstract

Cibaliung Sumberdaya, Banten; (2) to study the growth of Octomeles sumatrana planted together with D. ovalifolium inoculated with AMF. Soil collected from post mining was used as growth media. There were two factors in this study: AMF inoculation and compost treatments. Based on morphological characteristics after culture breeding , there were 23 spesies of Glomus sp. and 3 spesies of Acaulospora sp. isolated from 4 spesies of Desmodium spp. collected in PT. Cibaliung Sumberdaya. Inoculation of AMF and compost application increased height of O. sumatrana in two weeks after planting. Single inoculation of AMF into O. sumatrana improved height and increased number of spore as well. Combination of compost with post mining soil had the highest increased in height, diameter, total biomass, roots biomass, and sprout biomass of O. sumatrana.

Abstract

Phytoremediation is one of the most effective and environmental-friendly methods in retrieving oil-contaminated soil. The decline of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) oil in the phytoremediation process will be accelerated by Oil Spill Dispersant (OSD) as a surfactant and the use of Ricinus communis L. plant. Commercial OSD products used in the remediation process are S200 OSD which contains LAS surfactant, which is a US EPA recommendation and is known to be less environmental-friendly, so SBRC-IPB develops OSD containing palm oil surfactants and is environmental-friendly. The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of OSD and R. communis to reduce TPH. This study used a completely randomized design with two factors, namely OSD and plant use. The results of this study indicated that OSD from SBRC-IPB improved plant growth, increased dry plant biomass, accelerated the decrease in TPH and increased the bacterial population compared to the S200 OSD and control. The combination of OSD from SBRC and R. communis was able to degrade TPH better than S200 OSD, with and without R. communis, with TPH concentrations of 30,000 ppm (3%) to 2,333 ppm (0.2%) for 20 weeks. This showed that the use of OSD was able to provide a positive response in the phytoremediation process of land contaminated with petroleum

Abstract

Gold mine tailing soil media is characterized by low soil fertility and heavy metals toxicity. As an effort to improve the condition of gold mine tailing soil media, a revegetation experiment using Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) and soil media from gold mine tailing was conducted in the greenhouse. The objectives were to assess initial growth, P uptake and Pb reduction in Nauclea orientalis L. plants inoculated with indigenous AMF grown on gold mine tailing soil media. Three AMF fungi were used in this study, i.e. Glomus aggregatum, Glomus sp. and Acaulospora delicata. The experiment was conducted in Completely Randomized Design, having four treatments, i.e. control, G. aggregatum, Glomus sp. and A. delicata. The experiment was carried out for 3 months in a greenhouse scale. The results showed that local AMF inoculation significantly increased the height and stem diameter of lonkida by 181-213% and 284-443%, respectively, compared to control. The highest measurements of leaf’s length and width of lonkida seedlings were obtained from Glomus sp. and A. delicata treatments. Glomus sp. and A. delicata each significantly increased P levels in roots and shoots. Inoculation with G. aggregatum reduced Pb in the root and shoots parts by 74-86% and 72-76%, respectively, compared to controls. Local AMFs are potential to be developed as biological fertilizers to support revegetation in degraded lands, such as in gold mine tailing areas.

Abstract

Acid mine drainage (AMD), produced when sulfide minerals are subjected to oxygen and water, is one of the major issues in mining industries. Without proper management, AMD's release to the environment would cause seriously prolonged environmental and health issues, such as increases soil acidity and reduces water quality due to extremely low pH, high sulphate concentration, and heavy metal solubility. AMD treatments are divided into two categories, i.e., active treatment, conducted by applying a chemical to the AMD to neutralize pH and precipitate heavy metals; and passive treatment, which relies on biological and biochemical processes. The active treatment may provide an immediate effect, but costly and yet sustainable; meanwhile, passive treatment takes time to establish and to generate an effect, but it is more economical, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. The wetland system is an example of passive treatment. Therefore, this review focuses on passive treatments, especially the selection of organic materials used in constructed AMD wetland treatment. Organic materials play a central role in the wetland system, i.e., to chelate metal ions, remove sulphate from the solution, increase pH, and growth media for microbes, especially sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) and plants are grown in the system. Overall, organic materials determine the effectiveness of the wetland system to neutralize AMD passively and sustainably.
