Abstract

Sugar palm is one of local plants spesies that may potential for reclamation program because can be planted under the stands of forest crops. Forest crops can be shade seedlings sugar palm from direct sunlight because the growth of sugar palm is relatively slow. Sugar palm can be useful even without cutting down the trees. Previously, sugar palm had been planted at PT Berau Coal and had produced fruit. The research was conducted at coal post-mining land of PT Bukit Asam, Tanjung Enim, South Sumatera. The research using combination of AMF and liming treatment is as follows, ie MaK0 (control), Mak1 (seedling with AMF without inoculation; liming 30 g plant-1), MiK0 (AMF indigenous seedling inoculation; without liming), MiK2 (AMF indigenous seedling inoculation, liming 60 g plant-1), MmK0 (AMF mycofer seedling inoculation; without liming), and MmK3 (AMF mycofer seedling inoculation, liming 120 g plant-1). The results showed that sugar palm could be grown in the coal post-mining land. The combination of AMF and liming treatment did not significant effect on observed variables of plant height, rachis length, diameter, leaves number, number of spore and root cholonization. Sugar palm seedlings that have been infected with AMF could be grown and provide a good growth response even without liming. Keywords : Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF), marginal land, sugar palm

Abstract

Gosale (Syzygium malaccense (L.) Merr. & L.M.Perry) that belongs to the Myrtaceae family is one of the leading local plant species grown in Halmahera, North Maluku. Some problems in gosale breeding such as limited seed availability, low seed production due to seasonal fruiting and the nature of seeds that can not be stored for a long period (recalcitrant), suggest an alternative new production technique through a vegetative propagation (shoot cutting). Moreover, Improved seedling quality can be attempted by AMF inoculation, in which AMF at shoot cuttings play a role in initiating the formation of adventive roots. This study was conducted for 9 months using completely randomized design (CRD) with indigenous AMF inoculation treatment. The results showed that gosale cuttings that planted with indigenous AMF inoculation were effective at all observed variables. Inoculum AMF inoculated without the addition of host plant Pueria javanica at gosale shoot cuttings suggested the best treatment. The treatment of inoculum AMF from Kusumadehe (M1) obtained the best result in the variable of plant height increase, dry weight of shoot, dry weight of root, root shoot ratio), and seedling quality index. While the treatment of Inoculum AMF from Soakonora revealed the highest result in the variable of plant diameter increase and AMF colonization. Keywords: gosale, shoot cuttings, AMF, Pueraria javanica, West Halmahera

Abstract

Samama (Anthocephalus marcophyllus Roxb.Havil) is a tree with a canopy like a large umbrella so that if planted at any distance it will not affect the shape of the stem (Halawane et al. 2011). This type can flourish in tropical forests with an altitude of 50-1000 mdpl. This is including native Indonesian plants that have the potential to be developed in the development of plantation forests and for other purposes, such as reclamation of ex-mining land, reforestation and shade trees (Mansur and Tuheteru 2010). This is because samama can grow on various types of soil, do not have serious pests and diseases (Pratiwi 2003). In accordance with the permit for the implementation of silvopatura activities in production forest areas which are explained in full in the regulations of the Ministery of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia No. P.14/Menlhk-11/2015 concerning procedures for granting business licenses for the utilization of silvopastura areas in production forests with the aim of ensuring sustainable forest management by applying the principles of good governance. In the framework of sustainable production forest management to support food sovereignty programs. Provision of sufficient light space, fertilize and selection of tolerant grass species under stands are the key to the success of silvopastura. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the density of trees with 2 tree/plot with light intensity in the morning was 70.48% and 95.29% during the day. Addition of nitrogen to grass is not needed if the soil used has good fertility. Pennisetum purpureum Cv. Mott has the best tolerance under the same stand as a source of cut grass (intensive retention) and Stenotaphrum secundatum a coarse, hardly perennial grass in the management of silvopastura extensive. Key words: silvopasture, density of tree, shade, samama

Abstract

Coffee is one of the leading commodities in Indonesia. These plants are usually cultivated with agroforestry systems. The agroforestry system was chosen because it can increase crop productivity. But there are still many factors that can affect productivity such as Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF). This study aims to analyze the relationship between the number of spores, the percentage of colonization, and the diversity of AMF. The result showed that the highest percentage of colonization and the number of spores found in land 3. The agroforestry component affects the presence of AMF. The percentage of colonization and the number of spores from AMF is generally directly proportional. Diversity of AMF spores morphological type, among others Glomus has 9 forms, Acaulospora has 5 forms, Dentiscutata has 5 forms, Entrophospora has 4 forms, and Gigaspora has 1 form. Abstract

Java kenanga or kenanga (Cananga odorata f. macrophylla) is a tropical and sub-tropical tree species that grows naturally in Indonesia and produces essential oil. This species has been cultivated in the past by community in Indonesia, mainly on their yard. The population of kenanga has decreased significantly, but in Blitar district the community is still doing cultivating the species although in a small scale. The purpose of this research is to observe the cultivation efforts by the community and also kenanga flower production in Blitar district. This research was conducted by interviewing farmers and observation of kenanga trees in the field. The results showed that cultivation efforts being made to improve the production of kenanga flower is by pruning, fertilizing, flowering routine and retrieval or emoval of kenanga fruit. The average kananga flower production reached 381 kg / year / tree in the age group above 11 years. Factors that affect flower production were tree age (years), total tree height (m), diameter at breast height (cm) and the width tree canopy (m2). The most significant factors affecting flower production were tree diameter and width of tree canopy. Cultivation efforts being made to improve the production of kenanga flower is by pruning, fertilizing, flowering routine and retrieval or removal of kenanga fruit. Abstract

The Petri-dish microcosm is a simple system to study the development of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and has been shown to be suitable to observe the establishment of Acaulospora tuberculata BEG41, Gigaspora rosea BEG111, Glomus manihotis BEG112 and Scutellospora heterogama BEG40 on plant root. The non-agar based system could be easily used to observe the whole course of development of fungal-root interactions as well as the extra-radical structures of AMF without destructive sampling. It was found that these AMF species were unique with regard to spore germination, root colonization, the architecture of the extra-radical mycelium (ERM), the spread of the ERM in the media, and sporulation. The ERM of A. tuberculata BEG41and G. manihotis BEG112 spread mainly close to the root system, while the ERM of G. rosea BEG111 and S. heterogama BEG40 could occupy areas unoccupied by roots. The unique structure, the branch absorbing structure, was found in the four species of AMF, but differed in their shape and size
