Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving student learning outcomes on the ecosystem material at SMA Negeri 2 Tondano. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with two cycles, involving 30 students in the experimental class using the PBL model and 30 students in the control class applying a conventional learning model based on discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Data were collected through affective observations and cognitive evaluations using posttests at the end of each cycle. The results of the study show that the PBL model can improve student learning outcomes in both cognitive and affective domains. In the cognitive domain, the classical completeness percentage increased from 80% in Cycle I to 100% in Cycle II, with the average class score increasing from 80.15 to 90.35. In the affective domain, all students showed significant improvement, with observation scores in the high category in both cycles. The application of the PBL model motivated students to be more actively engaged in learning and improved their positive attitudes, such as discipline, responsibility, and self-confidence. This study shows that the PBL model is effective in improving both cognitive understanding and affective development in students. These findings suggest that applying PBL in Biology learning can improve the quality of teaching and student learning outcomes, with important implications for the development of problem-based teaching methods in schools

Abstract

Mosquitoes are the main insect vectors that cause various tropical diseases, including malaria, filariasis, and various viral diseases, such as dengue fever. Indonesia is a country with a tropical climate whose environmental characteristics are very supportive of mosquito breeding. Mosquitoes are infectious vectors that must be controlled. Efforts to control mosquito vectors include using repellents. Repellent is a chemical that can keep insects away so that insect bites can be avoided. This research aims to determine the formula for anti-mosquito lotion made from cloves, langusei, and beehives and to determine the results of organoleptic, physical tests, and the strength of repellent anti-mosquito lotion made from cloves, langusei, and beehives. The method used in this type of research is the laboratory experimental method. The samples used in this research were clove leaves, langusei, and honeycomb. The analyses carried out were organoleptic tests, pH tests, homogeneity tests, and protection power tests. The lotion, with the addition of clove, langusei, and honey bee hive plant extracts, meets the organoleptic test, test requirements for physical quality and repellent lotion strength, namely having a smooth and soft lotion mass, the color and aroma of the lotion is typical of a mixture of clove, langusei, and honey bee hive plants. The results of the study showed that from variations in the concentration of cloveleaf extract, langusei, and honey bee nest (0%, 0.25%, 5%, 10%), the best results were formula IV, namely with a concentration of 10% which had the best physical properties, safe to use and the most effective protective power to repel mosquitoes.

Abstract

This study investigates the diversity of weeds in rice plants across Minahasa, South Minahasa, North Minahasa, and Tomohon regency, focusing on the environmental factors influencing the distribution and density of weeds. The research highlights that the diversity of weeds is significantly influenced by environmental factors such as rainfall, soil type, and water management practices applied by farmers. Species such as Marsilea crenata and Panicum disticum dominate areas with poor drainage, while Ludwigia hexandra and Fimbristylis litoralis thrive in fields with better drainage. Observations of weed density at 21 and 42 days after planting revealed that the competition between paddy and weeds changes as the paddy plants mature, with the initial dominance of weeds decreasing as the paddy plants grow stronger. The findings provide valuable insights into weed dynamics and the significant role environmental conditions play in determining their distribution. These results offer guidance for developing more effective and environmentally sustainable weed management strategies. Recommendations include selective herbicide use, mechanical soil cultivation, crop rotation, and improved water management. The study also suggests that further research is needed to assess the impact of climate change on weed diversity and the long-term effectiveness of weed management practices.

Abstract

Goal. This study aims to analyze the composition, dominance structure, and temporal changes of weed vegetation in lowland rice cultivation in South Minahasa Regency. The research specifically seeks to identify dominant weed species at the initial observation, 21 days after sowing (DAS), 45 DAS, and 60 DAS, as a basis for determining appropriate weed management strategies during the rice growth cycle. aterials and methods. Weed vegetation analysis was conducted using the parameters of Absolute Density (AD), Relative Density (RD), Absolute Frequency (AF), Relative Frequency (RF), Absolute Dry Weight (ADW), and Relative Dry Weight (RDW). These values were integrated to obtain the Species Dominance Ratio (SDR) at four observation stages. Weed sampling was carried out using standard quadrat methods, and dry weight was determined after oven-drying samples at 80°C for 72 hours. The results showed that weed composition changed dynamically across growth phases. At the initial observation, the highest SDR values were recorded for Paspalum distichum, Marsilea crenata, Fimbristylis litoralis, Cyperus iria, and Ludwigia octovalvis. At 21 DAS, dominant weeds were P. distichum, Leersia hexandra, M. crenata, and Echinochloa crus-galli. At 45 DAS, P. distichum, E. crus-galli, L. octovalvis, and L. hexandra maintained dominance, while at 60 DAS, E. crus-galli became the most dominant species, followed by L. octovalvis, Limnocharis flava, and P. distichum. Overall, grass-type weeds showed consistently high RD, RF, and RDW values, indicating strong competitive ability throughout the rice growth cycle. The findings confirm that weed dominance in lowland rice is strongly influenced by crop growth stage, canopy development, and the competitive traits of individual weed species. Grass weeds, particularly E. crus-galli and P. distichum, demonstrate high adaptability and resource-use efficiency, making them persistent competitors in rice ecosystems. These findings reinforce the need for timely and stage-specific weed management interventions, especially during the critical period of 3–8 weeks after planting, to prevent significant yield loss and to support sustainable rice production in South Minahasa Regency.

Abstract

This article examines the management of competency improvement for participants in a medical professional education program in forensic and medicolegal sciences. The central problem is the gap between expected forensic-medical competence and the limited learning conditions experienced during a short clinical rotation, particularly the scarcity of real forensic cases that can be observed and practiced directly by learners. The study used a qualitative case-study approach based on in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The analysis was organized through the educational management functions of planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling (POAC), and was integrated with competency-based medical education, simulation-based learning, and continuous quality improvement. The findings show that competency improvement requires careful planning of competency needs, an integrated curriculum, structured resources, active implementation through lectures, case discussions, laboratory practice, artificial wound simulation, and repeated writing exercises for Visum et Repertum. Evaluation through formative feedback, summative assessment, and simulation-based Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) indicated improvement in descriptive, analytical, documentary, confidence, and collaborative competencies. The article proposes an educational management model that integrates POAC with artificial wound simulation as an innovation to address limited rotation time and real-case scarcity. The model strengthens technical competence, reflective learning, medicolegal reasoning, and quality assurance in forensic medical education.
