Abstract

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects the physical condition and the individual's psychological. Lupus makes teenagers tend to have low subjective well-being. One of the intervention methods to improve personal well-being is through expressive writing. This research aims to observe the effectiveness of expressive writing to improve teenagers' subjective well-being with lupus. This research used one group pretest post-test design involving four people as the subjects (N=4). The data were collected using the measurement tools of Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), interview, observation, and the results of the writing of the subjects during the therapy session. The results of the experimental research were in the form of quantitative analysis with the data analysis technique of the K-related sample test, showing no significant change to the scores of the subjective well-being among the subjects after given the therapy of expressive writing. However, the qualitative results showed that definitive writing therapy could be a catharsis media for teenagers with lupus. Therefore, we can conclude that expressive writing is less effective in improving subjective well-being but can be used as a catharsis media for teenagers with lupus.

Abstract

This study aims to observe the effectiveness of therapy of reflective-intuitive reading of Al-Fatihah in reducing the depression of autoimmune survivors. It used the quasi-experiment with the pre-test-posttest control group design – not non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects involved in this study were the female Moslems becoming the survivors of one of the autoimmune diseases. Here, the level of depression of the subject was measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) sub-test of depression developed by Lovibond and Lovibond, adapted into the Indonesian language. The implementation of the therapy refers to the module of reflective-intuitive reading of Al-Fatihah developed by the researcher and team by referring to the module owned by Maulana, Subandi and Astuti. Data analysis used the Mann Whitney U-Test to determine the difference in the depression level in the experimental group before and after the intervention compared to the control group. The study results showed that therapy of reflective-intuitive reading of Al-Fatihah effectively reduced the level of depression of autoimmune survivors after passing the changing process taking a particular time.

Abstract

Volunteers participate in charitable activities sincerely without any certain expectations. Concerning this volunteerism, this study aims to investigate the influence of character strength on happiness in environmental and educational volunteers. Employing Seligman's happiness scale as a measurement instrument (α = 0.615) and Peterson and Seligman's (α = 0. 976) Value in Action - Inventory of Strength (VIA-IS) as a measurement instrument to determine character strength, 99 volunteers working in environmental and educational fields of voluntary organizations were recruited. The inclusion criteria for recruiting these participants included male or female participants over 18 years old, active at the organizations for at least six months, unmarried, and living in Yogyakarta. All obtained data were analyzed by using a Spearman correlation analysis technique and a regression analysis technique. The results of this study showed that some of the most influential types of character strength on happiness were leadership (r = 0.354, p = 0.000), appreciation of beauty and excellence (r = 0.337, p = 0.001), gratitude (r = 0.311, p = 0.002), forgiveness (r = 0.305, p = 0.002), and open-mindedness (r = 0.301, p = 0.002). In addition, types of character strength significantly influencing happiness are closely related to collectivistic culture.

Abstract

Individuals in emerging adulthood are prone to experience social anxiety, especially in social media, as they are prone to receive responses, criticism, or judgment from others or themselves when sharing content related to themselves. This study aims to determine the relationship between mindfulness and patience with social anxiety in social media in emerging adulthood. This study used a quantitative approach, namely multivariable correlation with the relationship model of three variables analyzed using regression analysis. 542 participants in emerging adulthood who are active social media users were involved in this study. Data were collected using the Social Anxiety Scales for Social Media Users (SAS-SMU), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), and the Patience Scale. The results of the study showed that mindfulness and patience had a significant effect on social anxiety in social media. Besides, each independent variable significantly reduces social anxiety in social media. Then, mindfulness plays a stronger role in overcoming social anxiety in social media. The implications of this research show that mindfulness and patience can reduce social anxiety on social media. It is necessary to apply mindfulness in daily life to reduce social anxiety in social media in emerging adulthood.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between altruism and teacher performance in private secondary schools in Iganga District, Uganda—a context that remains underrepresented in existing literature. While previous research has explored altruism within corporate and public service sectors, limited attention has been paid to its role in non-profit educational environments, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. To address this contextual and content-related gap, a mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a cross-sectional survey design with both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Data were collected from 88 respondents, including head teachers and teachers with administrative responsibilities, using validated questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using Pearson product-moment correlation, while qualitative insights were interpreted through content analysis. The results reveal a statistically significant and strong positive relationship (r = .644, p < .01) between altruism and teacher performance. Qualitative findings further illuminate how altruistic behaviors—such as empathy, collaboration, and voluntary support—contribute to sustained performance and institutional cohesion. The study offers a novel contribution by demonstrating how altruism functions as a critical behavioral factor in enhancing teacher effectiveness in resource-constrained school settings. These findings underscore the importance of cultivating altruistic values in school management practices and teacher development programs. Future research should explore comparative analyses between school types and examine institutional support mechanisms that sustain altruism.
