Abstract

The development of literacy in primary schools is a global priority; however, reading materials often fail to reflect local cultural contexts. In South Kalimantan, low literacy competence is influenced by the limited availability of contextualized teaching materials. This study aimed to analyze teachers’ and students’ needs for reading materials based on local wisdom in public primary schools in Banjar Regency. A mixed-methods approach was employed. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires administered to 317 students in Grades IV, V, and VI, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 23 Grade V classroom teachers. The findings reveal that although government-issued textbooks are frequently used, the representation of local wisdom is extremely limited, with only 6.6% of students reporting exposure to such content. Students expressed a strong preference for visually rich, colorful books featuring folktales from their own region. Meanwhile, teachers reported difficulties in independently developing teaching materials and emphasized the urgent need for references that systematically integrate cultural values into reading instruction. It is concluded that a significant gap exists between the availability of reading materials and the actual needs in classroom practice. The development of culturally responsive reading materials is therefore essential not only to enhance students’ learning motivation but also to support the preservation of local cultural identity. This research offers a novelty approach by systematically integrating local wisdom values into Indonesian language reading materials, resulting in effective and culturally relevant learning resources for elementary school students. The practical implication of this research is the need for contextual, local wisdom-based reading materials to provide teachers with practical guidance and to maintain local culture in education.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai pendidikan karakter yang termuat dalam buku Cerita Rakyat Kalimantan Selatan karya H. Yustan Aziddin. Pendidikan karakter dipandang penting sebagai upaya menanamkan nilai-nilai luhur yang mencakup aspek pengetahuan, kesadaran, dan tindakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif-kualitatif dengan sumber data berupa teks dalam buku tersebut. Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi kata, frasa, klausa, kalimat, maupun paragraf yang memuat nilai pendidikan karakter, melalui teknik studi dokumen dan dianalisis dengan metode deskriptif analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai pendidikan karakter dalam buku ini mencerminkan berbagai karakter positif, di antaranya religius, jujur, toleransi, disiplin, kreatif, tanggung jawab, mandiri, demokratis, rasa ingin tahu, semangat kebangsaan, cinta tanah air, menghargai prestasi, bersahabat atau komunikatif, cinta damai, suka membaca, peduli sosial, dan kerja keras.   Abstract This study aims to describe the values of character education contained in the book Folklore of South Kalimantan by H. Yustan Aziddin. Character education is considered essential as an effort to instill noble values that encompass aspects of knowledge, awareness, and actions in everyday life. This research employs a descriptive-qualitative approach with data sources taken from the text of the book. The collected data include words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs that reflect character education values, obtained through document study techniques and analyzed using descriptive analysis methods. The results show that the character education values in this book represent various positive traits, including religiosity, honesty, tolerance, discipline, creativity, responsibility, independence, democracy, curiosity, nationalism, patriotism, appreciation of achievement, friendliness or communicativeness, love of peace, reading interest, social care, and hard work.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the lexical items used in the Maulid Batalam tradition in Bangkiling Raya Village, Banua Lawas District, Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan. The Batalam tradition represents a unique form of Banjar local wisdom that integrates religious rituals and communal dining in a large shared platter called talam. This lexical study is crucial because the vocabulary embedded in this tradition remains under-documented despite its linguistic, cultural, and social value. This research employs a qualitative approach with descriptive ethnographic methods. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with community figures and event organizers, and audiovisual documentation. The data were analyzed using data reduction, categorization, and verification techniques based on the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that the core food lexicon, such as itik panggang (roasted duck), kuah sup (soup broth), and mi bahati (spiced duck liver noodles), are structured as noun phrases and carry significant lexical and cultural meanings. In addition, dozens of supporting lexical items were identified, covering aspects such as time, tools, places, and preparation processes. Cultural values such as kinship, cooperation, hospitality, and deliberation are reflected in the lexical choices. This study concludes that documenting local culinary lexicons contributes significantly to preserving the Banjar language and cultural identity in the face of increasing cultural homogenization.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology in education necessitates the use of adaptive learning media, particularly in the Pewara course, which emphasizes communication and practical skills. This study aims to examine the potential of using an interactive e-module based on the Merdeka Learning flow (Alur Merdeka) to improve students’ learning outcomes. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model in the development phase. The effectiveness of the product was evaluated using a one–group pretest–posttest design involving 69 students from the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The results indicated an improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with an average score increase of 26.20. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings suggest a change in learning outcomes following the use of the interactive e-module. However, these results should be interpreted with caution, as the study did not involve a control group. Therefore, the observed improvement in learning outcomes cannot be fully attributed to the use of the e-module. Accordingly, these findings represent preliminary evidence of the potential of the e-module to support learning in the Pewara course.
