Abstract

Tax avoidance in the energy sector has become a pressing issue due to its substantial impact on state revenues and the public’s trust in the tax system. In Indonesia, this concern is heightened by the sector’s strategic role in the national economy and its frequent involvement in aggressive tax planning practices, which, while legal, often undermine the spirit of tax regulations. This study investigates the factors influencing tax avoidance practices in companies operating within the energy sector and listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The research focuses on three independent variables: company risk, capital intensity, and sales growth. Employing a quantitative associative method, the study utilizes secondary data collected from annual financial reports and applies panel data regression analysis using statistical software. The sampling was conducted through a purposive approach to ensure relevance and data consistency. The findings reveal that, collectively, the three variables have a significant impact on tax avoidance. However, on an individual basis, company risk and sales growth do not show a significant effect, whereas capital intensity demonstrates a significant negative influence on tax avoidance behavior. These results suggest that investment in fixed assets plays a vital role in reducing tax burdens legally. This research provides empirical evidence supporting the relevance of financial structure in understanding corporate tax planning within a regulated environment.

Abstract

Cultural tourism serves as a dynamic platform for identity  negotiation, heritage preservation, and intercultural dialogue, particularly within community-based destinations. Rather than merely observing static cultural artifacts, visitors are increasingly drawn to immersive experiences that allow them to engage with living traditions and co-create meaning alongside local hosts. This study focuses on Kampung Wayang, a cultural enclave situated in Wukirsari, Yogyakarta, where the traditional art of wayang kulit is not only preserved but practiced as an everyday expression of cultural identity. Here, tourists are not passive consumers but active participants in a dialogical process of cultural transmission. The findings highlight that meaning-making in tourism is contingent upon the intensity and authenticity of interaction with cultural agents such as dalangs (puppet masters), artisans, and community storytellers. For instance, those who participated in puppet-making workshops or engaged in discussions about wayang philosophy reported deeper emotional resonance and cognitive insight. This supports theoretical models that posit experience as a co-constructed, affective, and reflective process. Ultimately, the study confirms that immersive participation in cultural production fosters not only aesthetic appreciation but also a profound understanding of embedded social values such as justice, loyalty, and spiritual balance. These findings suggest that cultural villages like Kampung Wayang serve as critical arenas for sustainable tourism, where the visitor experience transcends commodification and becomes a catalyst for mutual understanding and heritage continuity. As such, the village operates as both a site of memory and a space of transformation a place where local culture is not only performed, but also renegotiated through the eyes of its guests

Abstract

Students' academic success is influenced by various academic and non-academic factors. Machine learning (ML) offers an effective approach to predicting academic outcomes by analyzing complex data patterns. However, most previous studies are limited to graduation prediction and rarely incorporate non-academic features or multiple feature selection techniques. This study aims to compare the performance of three ML algorithms Random Forest, Decision Tree, and XGBoost in classifying students’ academic success using a dataset from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, consisting of 4424 records and 37 features. The data underwent cleaning, label transformation, and feature selection using PCA, SelectKBest, and Variance Threshold. Models were trained using a holdout method (80% training, 20% testing) and evaluated based on accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The results show that Random Forest with Variance Threshold achieved the highest accuracy (0.77) and F1-score (0.84) on majority classes. XGBoost followed with 0.75 accuracy, while Decision Tree showed the lowest performance. All models struggled to classify the minority class, indicating challenges related to data imbalance. This research highlights the importance of algorithm choice and effective feature selection in academic classification tasks. It also emphasizes the need for data balancing strategies to reduce class bias. The findings can help educational institutions design data-driven interventions to improve learning outcomes and reduce dropout rates.
