Abstract

Pesisir Barat is one of the locations that has a great opportunity for capture fisheries activities in Lampung. Bubu is a passive fishing gear, made of thick steel frames, woven nets with small openings. Bubu is usually used to catch fish or other small crustaceans, by luring them to swim and trapping them inside. In this study, we used a light attractor as bait. Thus, increasing the effect of the trap. It exploits the phototactic behavior exhibited by many fish species, which are attracted by light itself, or preys on light-attracted phototactic invertebrates. In this study we used two kinds of traps. First, those with light attractors, then those without light attractors. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of the catch and comparing the result of both traps. This research was carried out from June to July 2022 with an estimated water depth of ±4-6 meters. The trap size is 120 cm x 70 cm x 80 cm. The composition of the catch on trap fishing gear consisted of several types of catch including blue-spotted grouper, red snapper, kuniran, baronang, cuttlefish, shrimp, squid and octopus. The result are quite different. The traps with LEDs having more result compared to traps without LED modifications.

Abstract

Small pelagic fish are the dominant commodity in the fishing sector in the waters of Banten, accounting for 51.3% of total production in 2023. However, limited access to technology means that conventional fishermen in this region still rely on experience and intuition to determine fishing locations, which results in unstable catch yields and inefficiencies in operational costs, time, and labor. This study is designed to analyze the performance of the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm in classifying the abundance of small pelagic fish during the eastern season in the waters of Banten. Two oceanographic parameters were used as predictors: Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentration, both of which serve as indicators of aquatic ecosystem productivity. Secondary data were sourced from Aqua MODIS satellite imagery spanning the years 2021–2025, which were subsequently processed and integrated via the Kaggle and Google Colab platforms. The final dataset comprises 3,382 data points divided into two classes: potential and non-potential. Model testing was conducted by varying the K value (3, 5, 7, and 9) and the data split ratio (60:40, 70:30, and 80:20), using Euclidean Distance and the Confusion Matrix as performance evaluation metrics. The model with a configuration of K=7 and a 70:30 split ratio proved to yield the best performance, characterized by an accuracy of 95.66% and proportional precision, recall, and F1-score values across both classes. Permutation Feature Importance analysis indicates that chlorophyll-a contributes dominantly at 25.66%, while the recorded influence of SPL is 23.58%. These results confirm the superiority of the KNN algorithm in classifying small pelagic fish in the waters of Banten.

Abstract

Efficient identification of potential fishing zones is crucial for sustainable coastal fisheries. This study presents the integration of oceanographic data analysis, spatial modeling, and Augmented Reality (AR) technology to predict and visualize suitable fishing locations for Euthynnus affinis in the waters of Panjang Island, Banten, Indonesia. Sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentrations were derived from MODIS satellite imagery and processed using Google Colaboratory to generate spatial distribution maps of key environmental parameters. These maps formed the basis for predicting potential fishing zones, which were implemented in NaviAR, a WebGIS-based platform with AR features that provides interactive visualization, real-time coordinates, distance measurements, and directional markers toward predicted fishing locations. The system’s main features, including the Home page, AR Camera, and WebGIS modules, were tested using black-box testing, achieving a 100% functional success rate. These results indicate that NaviAR effectively supports decision-making for fishermen by providing spatially explicit and actionable information on potential fishing zones

Abstract

Abstract

Bawean waters, located in the Java Sea about 150 km north of Gresik, East Java Province, have complex oceanographic characteristics that are interesting to study. The biodiversity and oceanographic conditions of its waters are influenced by hydrodynamic factors, such as ocean currents, tides, and other physical and chemical parameters. This study aims to analyze the oceanographic characteristics of the waters around Bawean Island based on the parameters of temperature, salinity, density, conductivity, and sound speed that play a role in the dynamics of the water mass. Measurements were made using CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth) instruments with the Direct Reading method, which allows real-time analysis of water masses. The data obtained was then processed using Ocean Data View (ODV) software to identify the distribution patterns of oceanographic parameters. In addition, Surfer software was used in modeling the three-dimensional visualization of oceanographic parameter density distribution patterns. The study sites were categorized into three zones, namely near land, far land, and perpendicular to land, to understand the differences in parameter distribution in different areas. The results showed that the water temperature was in the range of 28.75°C-31.25°C, salinity 26-33.1 PSU, conductivity 45-55 µS/cm, density 1016-1021 kg/m³, and sound speed 1534-1543 m/s. The modeling results and contour maps show that there is a connected density distribution pattern from the causation of low temperature parameters that affect the increase in salinity, conductivity, density, and decrease in sound speed. In addition, this research is expected to provide an in-depth understanding of the distribution patterns, distribution of oceanographic parameters in the waters of Bawean Island and the influence of factors that affect them.

Abstract

Shark populations, especially in Indonesia, are threatened with extinction. Based on data from WWF Indonesia, there are at least 10 million sharks caught in Indonesian waters every year for commercial purposes. Sharks protection activities are shark conservation activities not only related to environmental problems that exist globally. Until now, there is still no specific government regulation on the protection of sharks in Indonesian marine waters. In this paper, the author will discuss efforts to protect the extinction status of sharks in Indonesia. Shark protection efforts must be carried out properly through existing government policies on both conservation and shark fishing. The purpose of protecting the extinction status of the sharks is so that sharks are not endangered and their sustainability is maintained. The method used in this paper is to use a literature study. Thus, conservation efforts through regulatory approaches and conservation efforts have not been effectively carried out. The government can determine which areas should be the main concern for the protection of this shark species. So that conservation efforts get optimal results.

Abstract

Fishery waste is still not widely used, one of which is tuna fish bones. Whereas tuna fish bones contain high calcium and phosphorus which can be used to fulfill food nutrition. Therefore, the author is interested in discussing the use of tuna bone meal as a source of calcium for making cilok. The purpose of this study was to find out how to make tuna bone meal, and to find out how to make cilok by adding tuna bone meal and the content of the cilok. This study uses a literature study method, namely the author collects library data from several sources, takes notes, and processes the research material. The initial process of making flour is the boiling process for approximately 12 hours, then a second boiling is carried out for 3 hours. In the third stage, the bones were heated using an autoclave at 121ºC for approximately 2 hours. The next stage is the process of drying the bones in the oven for 12 hours at 80ºC, followed by grinding using a fomax grinding machine for approximately 2 minutes at 2500 rpm. Then, the results of the mill are sifted so that the flour looks smoother. Then the flour can be used as an additional ingredient for making cilok. Cilok is good for consumption because it contains high enough calcium and phosphorus.
