Abstract

Red mud merupakan limbah pengolahan bauksit yang saat ini menjadi permasalahan serius dikarenakan sifatnya yang sangat basa, volume produksi yang tinggi, dan mengandung logam berat. Namun, red mud memiliki sisi positif berupa kandungan logam tanah jarang yang dapat di-recovery. Salah satu metode ramah lingkungan yang dapat diterapkan yakni phytomining dikarenakan metode ini dapat sekaligus meremdiasi red mud. Agar phytomining dapat diterapkan dibutuhkan pengkondisian terlebih dahulu agar kondisi pH red mud dapat sesuai untuk ditanami tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kondisi pH dan konduktivitas media tanam dengan cara mengoptimasi komposisi red mud dan dosis asam sitrat. Pada aplikasi Design Expert, dilakukan variasi level komposisi red mud yaitu (10%, 30%, dan 50%) dan dosis asam sitrat (20 mg/g, 60 mg/g, dan 100 mg/g) sehingga menghasilkan 13 percobaan. Hasil analisis ANOVA menunjukkan komposisi red mud 39.66% dan dosis asam sitrat 20,63 mg/g menghasilkan nilai pH 8,055, mendekati kondisi pH ideal media tanam yang berada pada rentang pH 8,0 – 8,5. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan potensi optimasi red mud dan asam sitrat dalam pengkondisian media tanam yang ideal untuk praktik phytomining.

Abstract

One of the solutions to reduce food waste is creating innovative food packaging to lengthen its shelf life. This type of packaging can be produced by incorporating natural antimicrobials and antioxidation agents such as melanin. Various biologically active and multifunctional properties are associated with this biomacromolecule, i.e., antioxidants, antibacterial properties, and free radical scavengers. Thus, melanin is an indispensable component. It is expected that food packaging manufactured from natural materials containing melanin will have several advantages, including biodegradability, antioxidant ability, and antibacterial activity. A review of melanin as an antibacterial and antioxidant agent from many different sources that is utilized as an additive in food packaging is presented.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low mastery and understanding of catalog books by new students. Supported by the difficulties experienced by new students in following academic tutorials and administrative services. The research objective is to analyze administrative/academic services. This type of research is qualitative research. The methods used to collect data are interviews, observation, documents and questionnaires. The subjects of this research were all students at one university. The instrument used in data collection was a questionnaire sheet. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistical analysis of the results of questionnaire collection. The results of the research show that New Student Study Orientation activities provide smooth implementation of mastery tutorials and understanding of catalog books which can increase learning motivation. Having a catalog book can make it easier for students to receive information and the ins and outs of the University. With this research, it is necessary to carry out a more structured and focused approach in learning orientation for new students in order to strengthen and improve their independent learning character.

Abstract

adukuhan Dukuh merupakan salah satu wilayah yang sedang mengembangkan proses pengelolaan sampah organik dan anorganik berbasis budidaya Maggot Black Soldier Fly (BSF). Hal ini merespon dari timbulan sampah organik dan anorganik yang semakin tinggi pada TPA Piyungan DIY. Tujuan dari program pengabdian ini adalah melakukan sosialisasi dan pembinaan serta pendampingan berkelanjutan terhadap kelompok masyarakat melalui kelompok sampah “Migunani” untuk mengolah sampah rumah tangga secara mandiri yang dapat dimanfaatkan berbagai kebutuhan. Dengan demikian, permasalahan sampah dapat dikurangi dan menambah nilai ekonomi warga masyarakat. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dibagi 6 tahap yaitu : 1) Tahapan Persiapan dan Perizinan; 2) Workshop dan Edukasi Masyarakat; 3) Pelatihan dan pendampingan berkala; 4) Studi Banding di Omah Maggot Jogja; 5) Pembagian Alat Pengelolaan Sampah berupa Karung Komposter, Tong Komposter dan Alat Bor Biopori; dan 6) Tahapan Monitoring dan Evaluasi. Hasil dari seluruh rangkaian pengabdian berjalan dengan baik dan lancar. Hasil yang diharapkan dalam jangka panjang adalah kemandirian masyarakat dalam mengelola sampah organik dan anorganik sehingga sampah dari Padukuhan Dukuh tidak perlu dibawa ke TPA. Kesimpulan dalam program ini adalah kelompok masyarakat mendapatkan peningkatan pengetahuan dan mulai melakukan pengelolaan sampah baik bagi rumah maggot maupun secara mandiri di rumah masing-masing.

Abstract

Penanganan dan pengelolaan sampah perlu dilakukan secara berkelanjutan dengan diiringi praktik dan pendampingan. Tidak adanya upaya pengelolaan sampah di Dukuh Puluhan menyebabkan adanya timbunan sampah yang dapat mengganggu aspek kesehatan dan kenyamanan. Konsep Trilogi Biomassa menjadi salah satu strategi alternatif dalam penyelesaian penimbunan sampah dan pencemaran lingkungan dengan luaran berupa pupuk organik cair, kompos, dan biochar sebagai solusi dari permasalahan sampah yang ada di Dukuh Puluhan, Kecamatan Jatinom, Kabupaten Klaten. Terselenggaranya program ini mampu meningkatkan kesadaran dan pemahaman masyarakat Dukuh Puluhan dalam pengelolaan sampah, serta membentuk kesadaran masyarakat mengenai pentingnya menjaga kebersihan lingkungan. Metode pendekatan yang dilakukan dalam program ini yaitu dengan konsep learning by doing melalui sosialisasi dan pembinaan, workshop, serta pendampingan terhadap program yang telah dilaksanakan. Program Tribio Puluhan saat ini telah memberikan manfaat secara langsung dalam bentuk pengurangan timbunan sampah dengan mengubah 450 kg sampah basah menjadi 125 liter POC, 453 kg sampah lunak menjadi 430 kg kompos, dan 144 kg sampah keras menjadi 96 kg biochar.

Abstract

The study aims to compare the effectiveness of chromium removal from water using adsorption by coal fly ash (CFA) and phytoremediation by vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides L) as well as a combination of both CFA and vetiver grass. The experiment was carried out in four different reactors, having size of 100 cm (length) x 60 cm (wide) x 80 cm (height). One reactor was filled with gravel and CFA, without vetiver grass (RI), while another one was filled with gravel and vetiver grass, without CFA (RIV). The other two reactors were filled with gravel, CFA, and vetiver grass with the mass ratio of gravel/CFA of (25:2) and (25:1), denoted as RII and RIII, respectively. Fifty (50) L of synthetic wastewater containing 14.612 ppm of chromium was filled into the reactors and continuously recirculated for 15 days. Chromium accumulation in CFA and plants was analyzed on day 15. The results of plant development are indicated by the presence of new shoots and roots that grow during phytoremediation processes. In addition, there was an increase in weight and number of vetiver stems indicating the persistency of vetiver grass in such a harsh wastewater condition. The removal of Cr from wastewater in RI, RII, RIII and RIV at days 15 were 81%, 93.2%, 85.8% and 75.7%, respectively. It can be concluded that: (1) vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides L) has high potential as phytoremediator plant, (2) Chromium adsorption by CFA plays important role in Cr removal from wastewater, and (3) combination of adsorption by CFA and a phytoremediation by vetiver grass significantly increases the removal of chromium from wastewater.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the effect of NaCl concentration on the pH and Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) values of both EOW and ERW products. The experiment was conducted using distilled water. The electrolysis apparatus consisted of anode and cathode chambers. The chambers were connected by a tube filled with a cotton (or a fabric). Both electrodes (anode and cathode) were made of titanium and formed as a spiral. Electrolysis was performed for 780 minutes, and the pH and ORP values of both EOW and ERW were measured every time. Sodium chloride concentration was varied for 0, 100, and 200 ppm. Experimental results revealed that the higher the NaCl concentration, the higher ERW’s pH rise and the lower the EOW’s pH. Similar results were found for ORP. ERW’s ORP was lowered while EOW’s ORP rose with the increase in NaCl concentration. This study could also generate a mathematical model that correlates pH and time during the electrolysis process. The model was developed by connecting with a simple polynomial. A similar approach was used to develop the model that correlates pH and ORP value.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan analisis keekonomian pada skenario alternatif pengolahan sampah yang melibatkanan aerobic digestion (AD), pengomposan, dan landfilling. Penanganan sampah menggunakan beberapa metode alternatif selain dumping dan landfilling atau keduanya diperlukan untuk mengurangi dampak lingkungan yang ditimbulkan. Penelitian terdahulu menggunakan pendekatan life cycle assessment (LCA) menunjukkan bahwa skenario tersebut memberikan dampak potensi pemanasan global yang lebih rendah di TPA Gunung Panggung, Kabupaten Tuban. Analisis kelayakan ekonomi menunjukkan hasil positif dengan nilai benefit cost ratio (BCR), net present value (NPV), dan internal rate return (IRR) masing-masing sebesar 1,62, Rp34.893.409.826,37, dan 34,07%. Analisis sensitivitas dilakukan dengan memvaria- sikan harga produk dan biaya produksi. Adanya perubahan harga tidak menunjukkan perubahan yang signifikan terhadap nilai kelayakan investasi ini.

Abstract

Industrial water consumption will account for 22% of global water demand by 2030. Industry water conservation is encouraged by rapid corporate growth. Industrial resource usage and pollutant emissions can be reduced via cleaner production methods. Recycling is essential to greener production and the circular economy. Recycling is crucial to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The electric vehicle (EV) sector has propelled battery business growth in recent years, especially in Indonesia. The electric vehicle (EV) sector will benefit from using Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries. The study will use reverse osmosis (RO) membrane filtration to recover water from recovered NMC battery effluent. The experiment will investigate feed solution concentrations, pressures (8, 10, and 12 bar), and temperatures (30, 40, and 50°C). Two factors—permeate flux and metal ion rejection—determine reverse osmosis membrane efficiency. Li and Na metal rejection was maximum at 30°C and 12 bar, with 94-96% and 90-93% rejection rates, respectively. Under certain operating conditions, reverse osmosis membrane technology significantly reduced sodium (Na) concentration in NMC battery recycling effluent. Thus, wastewater is no longer saline. Reverse osmosis water can be reused for cooling due to its Li and Na concentrations.

Abstract

being one of the most energy-intensive industries, cement industry requires to evaluate the energy efficiency of their operating units, one of them is cement mill. Functioning as a mixing unit of several materials, i.e., clinker, limestone, gypsum, and trass with their initial heat and propensity of heat generation during milling, over-heat in the cement mill occurs frequently. It should be avoided in order to establish efficiency. Therefore, a mathematical model was generated in this study to predict and to mitigate this overheat phenomenon. This cement mill mathematical model has been generated using mass and energy balances. The output of the model is temperature profile versus residence time with targeted water content of the product that the optimum residence time can be calculated. Based on the temperature profile with a targeted water content of the product, it can be concluded that the optimum operating condition of the cement mill lies in the range of 5 to 30 seconds of materials residence time in the cement mill
