Abstract

The development of the Nusantara culinary industry throughout the world shows that Nusantara culinary products are a prospective business opportunity. The presence of Nusantara culinary as a business opportunity in the world requires an understanding of culinary terms in promoting Nusantara culinary terms. One of the areas that makes Nusantara culinary a culinary business opportunity is the Middle East region. The massive use of Arabic in the Middle East requires the equivalent of Nusantara culinary terms in Arabic as well. This requires a translation process between Indonesian and Arabic. This study describes the strategy of translating Indonesian-Arabic Nusantara culinary terms. Data were collected from various corpus of data in the form of 3 Indonesian-Arabic dictionaries and 1 internet page source. The findings of the translation strategy are in the form of 204 data on the translation of three types of Indonesian-Arabic Nusantara culinary terms. The findings of the syntactic strategy there are 4 types of syntactic translation strategies applied, namely literal translation of 17 (8.5%) data, 17 (8.5%), borrowing of 17 (8.5%), unit shifting 160 (80%), and changing the phrase structure 6 (3%) data. There is only one type of semantic strategy application, namely hyponyms as much as 82 (40%) data. The implementation of the pragmatic strategy found two strategies, namely cultural filtering of 11 (5.4%) data and changing of information as much as 8 (3.9%) data. The results of the assessment of the quality of the translation of the Nusantara culinary term obtained a level of accuracy that is less accurate, acceptability is less acceptable, and legibility is legible.

Abstract

This research will elaborate deeply about the variant of conjunction in Arabic language and its techniques of translation. The investigating of translation techniques had the significant role in the process of translation. The translation problems had been found in the process of translation, especially related to the arabic conjunction. The analysis of variant techniques of translation towardsthe arabic conjunction can be investigated by the theory of gramatical equivalence between Arabic (L1) and Bahasa Indonesia (L2). This research aims to elaborate comprehensively about the variant construction of cohesive conjunction in Arabic language and its variant models of translation into Bahasa Indonesia. The second aim of this research is to investigate the techniques of translation toward the construction of cohesive conjunctions, especially in the Arabic prose Fi Sabiili At-Taaj which had been translated by Choirul Anwar into Bahasa Indonesia as "Ambisi Meraih Mahkota" published by Fajar Pustaka (2001). This research had been classified as descriptive qualitative model. The data had been classified using the random sampling method. The result of the research had been concluded that: (1) the Arabic adversative conjunctions had been translated into "tidak", "tetapi", and "bahkan" in Bahasa Indonesia. (2) the Arabic additive conjunctions had been translated into "dan", "lalu", and "maupun" in Bahasa Indonesia. (3) the Arabic temporal conjunctions had been translated into "kemudian" and "akhirnya" in Bahasa Indonesia. (4) the Arabic causal conjunctions had been translated into "sehingga" and "sampai" in Bahasa Indonesia. (5) several techniques had been implemented in the translations of Arabic novel FiiSabiili At Taaj, such as: literal, reduction, discursive creation, linguistic amplification, established equivalence, transposition, linguistic compression, and calque.

Abstract

This article will generally examine the naming convention of small objects lexemes (ism tagīr) in the Al-Munawwir Arabic-Indonesian dictionary. The approach used in this study is a linguistic approach, especially closely related to morphosemantics. In this case, the morphosemantic study involves the study of the structure and meaning of the lexeme in relation to small objects or what is commonly referred to in Arabic as ism taṣgīr. The research method consists of three important stages, such as: (1) the data collection and analysis using the observation method of linguistic units in the form of "words" in the al-Munawwir dictionary, (2) the data analysis used distributional methods in the form of techniques for direct elements and contrasting techniques, and (3) reports on results related to the rules for naming small objects in Arabic. The results of this study are expected to provide new insights on the relationship between morphological word formation in Arabic and naming rules in Semantic studies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe translation techniques and methods used in the translation of Syi‘ru Machallil Qiyām. This research is based on conceptual theories about translation techniques from Molina and Albir and Newmark's theory of translation method. This study is under the research paradigm of descriptive-qualitative. The data were collected by using non-interactive method is, using document recording technique. The data analysis applied the Miles and Huberman’s model (1994) which consists of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion and verification. The data source was the book of Al-Barzanji authored by Sayyid Ja'far Al-Barzanji which was translated by Yasin (2001). The results showed that there were 10 translation techniques used in the translation of Syi‘ru Machallil Qiyām including the technique of adaptation found 2 data (2.7%), description 4 data (5.5%), generalization of 3 data (4.1%), particularization of 1 data (1.4%), calque found 10 data (13.7% ), literal 12 data (16.4%), borrowings 4 data (5.5%), reduction of 2 data (2.7%), addition of 13 data (17.8%), and shifting of 22 data (30.2% ). The most widely used technique was the shifting technique found as many as 22 data. This was occured primarily due to the underlying difference between the Source Language (SL) and TL structures, therefore, to achieve the language correspondence and acceptability, the translator has focused on using more shifting techniques. The translation method used was oriented at the Target Language (TL) of 49 data (67,1%).

Abstract

This research discusses the kinds of form and meaning shift in the Ma'sātu Zainab drama text translation. The purposes of this research are to describe the kinds of form and meaning shift in the Ma'sātu Zainab drama text translation. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The data source is Ma'sātu Zainab Zainab drama text written by Ali Ahmad Bākatsīr. The data are collected by non-interactive method. The data analyzing in this research are including: data reduction, data display, conclusion and verification. This research can be concluded as follow: First, forms shift in the translation are caused by structural differences between source language and target language. The forms shift, include morpheme strata shifting, syntax strata shifting, and word category shifting. Second, meaning shift in the translation is caused by the absence of quitely equivalent word between source language and target language. The meaning shift is also caused by the cultural differenciation between source language and the target language. The meaning shift consist of meaning shift from generic meaning into the specific one or vice versa, and the meaning shift which is caused by the cultural differenciation point of view.

Abstract

This article will investigate the Arabic language and English language based on Syntax analysis. In this case, syntax had been viewed as the arrangement between certain word and the other word, or with the other units of language which has the higher level than the word, such as: phrase, clause, and sentence. Generally speaking, this research will investigate the Arabic language based the four main theory in syntax (Liliane Haegeman, 1998), such as: (1) transitivity, (2) X-bar theory, (3) theta theory, and (4) case theory. This article will focus comprehensively in elaborating the data, both in Arabic language and English language, comparatively based on these four main theories. The material objects in this research was the units of language which had been collected from the book of Al-Hikam aphorism in trilingual edition (Arabic, Indonesia, and English). The observation method had been used for collecting the data, after that, the data will be analysed with two main steps, they are:  distributional method and comparative method. Transitive verbs in al-Hikam's aphorisms show God's behavior. The transitivity of verbs in Arabic is determined by the noun that comes after the verb. Meanwhile, based on the study of X-Bar theory in Arabic phrases that appear in al-Hikam's aphorisms, it can be concluded that the internal structure of noun phrases, that FN = N + Adj and FN = N + N. Furthermore, in the theta theory analysis, it can be concluded that FN in the form of (N + Adj) can occupy the AGENT position and FN in the form of (N + N) can occupy the PATIENT argument to form a propositional unit. Based on the case theory study, it can be concluded that the NOMINATIVE case is in the subject who acts as the AGENT, and the ACCUSATIVE case is in the direct object that becomes the object of the sufferer or target, namely acting as the PATIENT. The result of this research can be the new model of Arabic and English language analysis based on the syntax theory.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the structure, function, translation techniques, methods, and ideology applied in the translation of three-word lexical bundles found in the book At-Taqrib Matan Abi Syuja’ (The Abridged Manual of Islamic Law by Abū Shujāʿ). In addition, this study seeks to reveal how recurring linguistic patterns in classical Arabic religious discourse interact with translation strategies and ideological orientation in the target language. This research is driven by the linguistic uniqueness of Arabic word groups, which differ significantly from those in other languages, such as English and Indonesian, in both their structural formation and communicative function. These differences create considerable challenges for translators, particularly when dealing with religious texts that require high levels of accuracy, consistency, and cultural sensitivity. To address this issue, a descriptive qualitative approach was used, involving data recording and sampling techniques to collect Arabic three-word groups, which were then analyzed using domain, taxonomy, component, and cultural theme analyses. The data were obtained from the chapter on prayer in At-Taqrib, as this section contains a high density of formulaic expressions related to time, procedure, and legal instruction. The findings show that most three-word lexical bundles appear in the form of prepositional phrases that function primarily as markers of location and time in the text. These forms are followed by noun phrases and verb phrases, each contributing specific discourse functions within the legal explanation. These patterns indicate that Arabic lexical bundles not only fulfill syntactic purposes but also play a crucial role in forming text cohesion and conveying contextual meaning. From a translation perspective, translators tend to emphasize the source language through frequent use of literal and semantic translation techniques, with limited application of communicative or idiomatic methods. This preference reflects the translators’ intention to preserve the original meaning, structure, and religious authority of the source text. It reflects an ideology of foreignization that aims to preserve the linguistic and cultural features of the Arabic text while minimizing adaptation to the target language. Such ideological positioning is particularly important in the translation of Islamic legal texts, where deviation from the source may affect theological interpretation. Overall, this study provides insight into the complex relationship between linguistic form, translation strategies, and ideological attitudes. The results show that translators' preference for source-oriented methods contributes to maintaining the sacred tone and authenticity of the text in religious discourse.

Abstract

Lubab Al-Hadith Arabic-Javanese is one of the books that contains the hadith, or message, of the Prophet and is commonly used in Islamic education, such as in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to examine the grammatical equivalence, specifically how the translator can maintain the verb from Arabic grammatical form to Javanese grammatical form, and to compare the translation quality of the two versions of the book. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, and data collection is through observation with note-taking. The result of this study shows that from 94 data of Triliteral Verbs (TV), four main derivation patterns were found, namely fa'ala-yaf'ulu as many as 34 (36.17%), fa'ala-yaf'ilu as many as 27 (28.72%), fa'ala-yaf'alu as many as 18 (19.15%) and fa'ila-yaf'ilu as many as 15 (15.96%) and related to the analysis of the five aspects of grammatical equivalence with an almost balanced distribution in both translation versions, with a slight difference. The quality assessment of both versions of the translator yields average scores of 2.9 and 2.8, which are categorized as high.
